What do you say when….

You are in an antique store so full of old stuff that you can hardly walk…(more like a JUNK store)….you find a cute rabbit….the lady walks up to you and says, “Feel free to make an offer on anything! We have more to put out and no room!” So you ask how much the cute little rabbit is on the table nearby and she says….”Oh, that’s not for sale.”  REALLY? How strange is THAT? My hubby and I kept looking and working our way back to the door but I thought about going back to her and saying something (I’m not sure what). Hubby said to let it go!

Of course it’s a little different experience antiquing with hubby! He asks questions like, Where are you going to put that? What IS that? How much does that cost? I had one of those….and I gave it away last week!  hahaha! Or maybe even…do you have any money? (I never carry a purse!)

We were in the Biltmore Antiques District and there’s so much stuff that it becomes OVERLOAD! You can’t SEE everything….to the point that you can’t see ANYTHING!

We did go to a couple of fabulous stores, Post and Gray

DSCN1117

had some of the most beautiful ‘high end’ furniture and we ended our shopping at The Screen Door …one of my MOST favorite places to look! (photos from their websites)

So how much did I spend? Less than $10! I think I got too HOT and it affected my judgment! But in my effort to downsize and live more simply, I have to be careful not to buy too much….and junk things up! heehee!

Here are the little items I bought for a craft project!  Aren’t they precious?

DSCN7526

So what personality are you? Do you speak up? Would you walk around the store carrying the rabbit and put down your money at the register? Would you rant and rave? Would you pout? What is the proper response….I would just LOVE to know! heeheehee!

Have a great day! Lighten up, HAVE FUN and try to shop in air conditioned stores! heehee! (I wrote this for myself) And please know that I am writing this….with a sense of humor! I was not really bothered by any of this…just wanted to know your thoughts! ; )

Im not sure what I would do.I think it depends on the mood I would of been in.Mostly I think they(store owners) owe the customer politeness and courtesy. Not to say Im not polite but sometimes, I dont know what it is this summer, but Ive ran into some pretty hot tempered people.I just sort of drop it and move on.

I love the little things you bought so cute.

Happy weekend!

It proably would have taken so off guard that I'd say, I'm sorry. Then I'd put it down and work my way out the door.

The description of your hubby is cute. My husband offers to go places with me then he's ready to leave 20 seconds after we are in the door. That's no fun!

Good question.. I would be thinking if it's in the store and not marked "display" that it's for sale...try again on a different day and maybe the right sales person will sell it to you!
Cute little child's pieces to use for your "project"...
Happy weekend.

"Do you have any money?" Now that's a good one. I don't usually carry my purse around either. (I'm not telling John about that line, though.)

Well I'd be like you and find it quite odd that this woman was displaying something that wasn't for sale. I'd probably have laughed and said, "You're kidding, right?"

Well, first of all...you should have been shopping with me!! I have been waiting for you to let me know when you are free :-).

Sounds like you had a good time though....you know I love the screen door.

Too funny! I'd rant and rave while pouting.
Antiquing with hubby can be challenging. I think they've all read the same 'How to' manual. Still, I love antiquing with my hubby.
Love your little treasures. I'm trying to limit my buys too, not easy, but my house is stuffed with fab, must haves.
Have a wonderful weekend!

I'd try to make them feel poorly & WANT to sell it to me ... but actually, I would ask & then pout.

Have a lovely PINK summer's weekend ~

That was kind of rude of her I think, but then again, it takes all kinds! Todd is horrible to go shopping with. I prefer to park him in a cafe with a coffee and go on my own. If he is with me he gripes the whole time about money and the cost of things etc. Definitely a party pooper!

Why did she have it out there, if it wasn't for sale?! (maybe to so see how many poeple would ask how much and she could tell them that it wasn't for sale :)
Next week I'm going to the Highway 127 sale. If you're not familiar, it has a website--I love it.

Oh I LOVE those little nursery pieces you found, Diane! I've been keeping my eyes open for some but I have a feeling they hide! I really get frazzled looking through crowded stalls- it overwhelms me! Good things come to the diligent, though!

Goodness, the way I feel lately, I probably would have cried when she said the bunny was not for sale! ♥

Your husband sounds like mine and he usually does not shop with me unless we are out of town. He calls all my stuff I buy junk just to get under my skin. Those little nursery figures remind me of some I had when I was little. I would have asked that lady why was that bunny out if it wasn't for sale.

Those are really cute! Oh I'd rather go shopping by myself or with a friend! I probably would have said something to her if I really wanted the rabbit. I would at least have asked why it was out with the stuff for sale if it wasn't for sale?

Have you considered that the shop is so over stocked, because that may be a standard answer and she is a hoarder who finds it hard to let things go?
Not sure what I would say or do in a similar situation.
Your nursery pieces are sweet.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment and becoming a follower. Welcome.

Hi Diane,

I find it very annoying if there are things in shops, and they are not for sale.
Your nursery pieces are lovely ~ like Mary and her little lamb.

I really find it a tad irritating when things in shops don't have prices on, but to have something on show and its not even for sale is just plain daft! I would have just left it though, being the wimp I am! I love those cute little figures, they remind me of some wooden christmas decorations that we have. Really cute! Susie xxxx

I doubt I'd say anything. I'm shy that way. I probably would have left the store though. Love the little nursery pieces. I would have bought those!
