Do you have vision?

I was changing something in my bedroom this morning.....

DSCN0967

these flowers had been on the floor...

DSCN0415

so we tried them on a small table...

DSCN0927

and then put a round box on top of that...

DSCN0928

until we had what we think looks better (and less boring)!

But when I looked around the room I started reminiscing!

When we pulled up in the driveway of this home

with our realtor (in red) 6 years ago I was impressed!

The house was beautiful and the landscaping was perfect

(and maintained!). This is the back of the house, taken from the golf course.

But when I walked inside, I almost walked right back out!

My husband had to keep telling me to look past the furniture

AND the wallpaper....and the PINK carpet!

LivingRoom3593

The house was only a few years old

but it had been built by a couple that must have been stuck

in the '70s! So here are the before pics of the bedroom

with the original owners' furniture...

my hubby taking down wallpaper....

MasteBed3598

a quick look with Travertine (color) paint on the walls

and BEIGE carpet, when the furniture was being delivered

but before the drapes were hung....

and the photo I took this morning!

I think this takes my room from 'Boring to BETTER'!

So I'm joining Kim this week at Savvy Southern Style !

Do you have vision? I'm sure glad my husband does!

Wow, that pink carpet and wallpaper was kind of scary, but that was the style when they did that. Those were the colors in this house when we built. Thank goodness it has all changed. Thanks so much for joining each week, Diane.

Oh you had vision my friend...or should I say the hubby did. Looks awesome now, nothing a little work, paint and new carpet could not fix. The house and yard are gorgeous. Are you in Florida?

Debbiedoos said...

Oh wait the flowers look great spruced up on their new table.

Can't believe you took down that wallpaper lol. I wish I had taken photos of our house before we moved in. We could compare prior owner's bad taste.

Lots of hard work made a pretty bedroom!
Have you thought about putting the flowers on the nightstand by the lamp??!! Just a thought!
Warmly,

Hi, I'm visiting your page from Kim over at Savvy Southern Style. I see you're on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I am too. I'm in Sarasota. I just wanted to say howdy : ) Your room looks beautiful. Your poor hubby to have to remove the wallpaper. That can be such a pain. :) Anyhoo, just wanted to say hello.

Your home is so lovely and what a difference your taste and decorating sense makes! Your bedroom is so pretty! Now on the other hand, there are gals in Blogland that would poke eyes out to have pink carpet! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Wow!!! Way different!!!! looks wonderful now!!!

Oh, I agree, yours is gorgeous and all of that wallpaper just competed. I remember neighbors who had paid to have every surface covered with country wallpaper. Can you imagine the work changing that out.

Boring to best, I would say!

You don't like that pink carpet? lol
Definitely better! I like the flowers on the table in the corner.

Ciao All the best for 2011.
I am back at last catching up on all the posts I missed while I was away from computing while on an extended trip to the UK.
You have a lovely home, vision is of the utmost importance when viewing property. We certainly would not have purchased our current home if we had lacked vision!

Why people use colored carpet, I will never understand. It was even worse when the trend was to use a different color in every room. I remember being a child and the mother of one of my cousin's friends bragging how each of her kids got to pick the carpet for their room. That poor house looked like a rainbow threw up in it.

Your more more muted color scheme is so much better! The colors you picked look so peaceful. Best of all when you want to change your style, there won't be a problem to do that.

You've done a great job there!... And lucky you to live right on the edge of a golfcourse! I do love Florida. *sigh*

I recognize that Florida's 70 look. You and your hubby have done a wonderful job transitioning this home. Aren't you glad he had the vision!
