Lying on a quilt under the tree….

reading Nancy Drew books!

I found these two at my favorite Thrift Store and they sure brought back memories of summer days and checking books out at the library when they were ‘hot off the press’! ( one of them was printed in 1956 and the other 1962!)

And I was thrilled to find this old cedar chest. My mother was given one like it when she graduated from high school.

And I remember having a little plastic cosmetic bag like this and now it would be considered ‘retro’! It’s clear but I tucked a paper towel inside so that the print showed up better for the photo!

I love finding treasures…especially those that bring back happy memories!

My granddaughter is reading Nancy Drew books now and she was surprised when I mentioned that I had read them when I was a girl!

Here’s a neat website that I found….Nancy Drew !

Did you read Nancy Drew books? Did you want to be an amateur sleuth…a young detective with a life filled with danger and adventure?

My sister (Nancy) grew up reading Nancy Drew and I grew up reading Cherry Ames. She was a nurse that had adventures.

We were at the Aboretum on Sunday and I saw you did a post on it the other day. What day where you there?

Thanks for your visit. I sure did read Nancy Drew and remember borrowing them from my friend who had the complete set. I enjoy finding treasures from the past as well.

Hello name mate! (I hope you don't mind me addressing you as name mate ;-) Your post definitely brought memories. I enjoyed reading Nancy Drew books too. My fascination over detective, crime and mystery stories actually started from Nancy Drew books. While my other friends and classmates would read Sweet Valley, I enjoyed Nancy Drew and The Baby Sitters Club. Good to know that apart from our names, we have other things in common.

I LOVED Nancy Drew when I was growing up! I wanted to be just like her. :) I also LOVED the Bobbsey Twins, Happy Hollisters and Cherry Ames. I read every book from those series that they had in our little library back then. Fun memories!

Oh my gosh! I read every Nancy Drew book I could find when I was growing up! And that little cedar chest, I have one just like it. I graduated in 1968 and the local furniture store gave them to all seniors. I still have it in my dresser drawer. What a great post and thanks for stopping by to wish me a happy birthday!

What great finds! My friend Francine and I used to spend hours reading Nancy Drew books in either her bedroom or mine. No, I never had a desire to be Nancy Drew. She was way too brave and daring for me!

I have two of those little Lane cedar chests, and I love them.

Yes, those little plastic bags were great. I never was into using make-up, but I know my sister had quite an array of adorable little bags.

Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories!

Nancy Drew is still a favorite. My mother passed down her books to me when I was younger and I've passed them onto Emma. I've always wanted to throw a Nancy-Drew themed birthday party. The possibilities would be endless!! I can't wait to explore that website further. Your cosmetic bag is darling.

I loved Nancy Drew! I couldn't get enough of those books. Also, I worked at a furniture store during college and every spring we would give away those Lane cedar chest for the graduating girls. I'm sure they don't do that any more!

My mother had a cedar chest just like that one from Lane. She told me that I'd get one when I graduated from high school, but they'd run out by then. ;>

Loved Nancy Drew and have all of my mother's old books plus some of those from my own era. I tried rereading a few years ago, but couldn't recapture the thrill. (That was a neat website.)

Sweet little purse and you figured out how to show it to us so well. Thank you!

I loved Nancy Drew books growing up. I still have several! It was rare to have books to keep, mostly we used the library so these are really special to me. My daughters read some of them. Great to bring back memories! I got one of those little cedar chest things when I graduated from HS also. I still have it somewhere. Gosh, I keep everything.

I remember ND books, they were wonderful, a trip to another world.

My Mom has a giant sized cedar chest, I think that my Dad made it for her before they were married.

Wonder where it went..?

I absolutely DID read Nancy Drew and I spent long summer days reading them after doing whatever chores my Mom could drag me to do before burying my nose in the book :)

I loved Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, as well as Alfred Hitchcock's The Three Investigators. I was quite the bookworm! My kids are all avid readers, from weekly visits to the library, and reading to them every night. There is nothing like a good book to take you away to another place! Well, except for reading the book on the beach :D

Hugs!

I read most of the Nancy Drew books...I just loved them. I was always reading a book. My mom used to say that she was glad the library was free because I wanted to go all the time. Thanks for bringing back good memories...and thanks for entering my giveaway. I appreciate it!

I did read Nancy Drew! Every single one of them! But I don't think I ever dreamed of being a detective. I still enjoy reading mysteries though.

Nancy Drew is still about the scariest book I will read. But my heart has always belonged to Trixie Belden! I love that cedar chest, I used to dream of owning a Lane hope chest.

I remember when I was in high school I wanted a cedar chest. That was back in the day girls had hope chests. I never hear that term any more.
