Antique Shops, Thrift Stores...Goodwill?

Where do you shop? All of the above?

My girlfriend, Sherry from Back 2 Vintage asked me if we had gone to Mt. Dora and shopped in the Antique stores there and I had to stop and think! We’ve gone there a few times but I don’t think we went into any Antique stores! The closest we came was an old book store!

Thrift store shopping is a fairly new addiction for me! And there are really only a few that I like to shop at! (Goodwill is not on that list! lol)

The last time we went to Mt. Dora, Florida I did buy this precious little doll in a doll shop that sold mostly new dolls with a few ‘antique’ dolls in the back! She looks like one I had when I was a little girl!

And I found the family of cats marked made in Japan for $1 in a thrift store here in Ocala.

When Sherry sent me a sweet gift awhile back I told her I made use of all the pretty pink packaging...

I used some in this planter...

and the rest in this cup! (thanks Sherry!!!)

Do you enjoy antique stores? Do you find good buys there?

Should I give them a chance?

I Love shopping in thrift stores better than any other stores. There is one not far from us that is run by senior center and and it is my favorite..That is where I got the sewing machine I blogged about last night. I never go there without finding something I just have to buy :)

I love antique stores, but mainly the ones that also have a lot of junk. I don't care for the ones that only carry furniture items. I like to rummage through the "junk" and household items.
There is a place in TX we like to visit to find things for the yard.

I try to avoid antique stores...too pricey...but I love a good flea market. I rarely find anything at Goodwill and I don't care for yard sales.

If money were no object, I'd not mess with flea markets either. LOL!

I usually buy in a little Charity shop choosing something and paying what I want, generally more than the value to help children without family or animals. It's a simple way to do something good for who suffers.

Mount Dora looks like a sweet, quaint little town. I'm surprised there were not more thrifty places to shop. Thanks for the shout out!You were right...you found ways to use the pink packing paper!!! You're so thrifty!!!

There have been several new thrift stores pop up here in Ocala, and I never feel like I have the time to stop. One of these days I will find some time to just go check out the thrift stores.

Diane, I love Mt. Dora. My husband and I go there about once a month during the Fall and Winter seasons.

There is one shop in particular that I just adore....Timeless Keepsakes. It is full of the most adorable things for your home. My tongue is hanging on the floor when I am in there.

Love all your goodies.

Oh, I forgot to mention....I never shopped at Goodwill until I started blogging....never even thought of it for some reason. I have been in a number of them and never once found anything.

I see all this other great stuff that some bloggers find and think something must be wrong. No luck for me. :-(

Mt. Dora does look like a cute place to visit. I love your doll. She has such a sweet face and her socks and shoes really bring back memories for me.
I visit all of the thrift shops (GW, Habitat and Value Village). I seem to have the best luck at Value Village. I find old things at great prices. I still like to go antiquing, but when I see the prices I think if I find it at VV I'll get it but otherwise I probably don't need it.
I'm glad you were able to get some of the plastic acorns. They're so much fun to "play" with.

LOL -- we are going on vacation soon and the first thing I did when planning our trip was to google 'thrift stores'! My eyes are always peeled wherever we go for them -- and I love that little tea cup -- what is that cute, pink wooden doll-thing in there?? Love all of your finds!

I love all of you dolls.
My sister and I enjoy thrifting to find that special thing we can't live without or re-do. We are luck to have many wonderful places here in Jupiter.
Mt Dora is a great little town. I especially like Renniger's Antiques. They have another place up north that I use to go to also.

hugs and happiness,
Pam

One of my favorite things to do is browse flea markets and antique shops, unless they are of the very pricey variety.

They don't make things like the used to :-)

In our small town the SPCA and local church thrift stores are the best although the SPCA has REALLY gone up on their prices. If I go out of town and stop at a Goodwill, I only end up buying clothes for the smaller grands and books. Everything else is garbage.
It has been a longtime since I went to Mt. DOra. The best place is Renninger's. Haven't been there is eons!

I like your stuff. And that's cute idea to use the pink package fluff in the tea cup.~Ames

I used to only frequent antique stores, but now I'm equally addicted to thrift/mission stores. You really do have so many darling treasures.

I've shopped at all three! My best finds for dishes/crystal, etc. have always been at Goodwill!

What a precious doll. I had bought one recently, and I want another. I just love antiques stores, and here in New England we do have a lot. I love the baby planter, I still have my babies and when/if they should gift me with a grandchild, then I will make them an arraingement in their own planter.
Hugs,
Ellen

I love shopping antique and thrift stores! There are one or two Goodwills I go to, but I have 3 or 4 independant favorites that I frequent. Mount Dora is such a lovely little town... I found a book in one of the old bookstores there that completed a set I collected as a kid. I also found a box of great bird prints there!

I'll shop anywhere - I don't care much for Estate Sales - but I enjoy the 'hunt.' Your dolls look almost too pretty to play with.

Thrift store shopping has become very trendy and I love stopping in often to see what they have.

I do not like Goodwill either. Everything there is so dirty and overpriced. Too bad it's that way.

Love your pretty finds and gifts.

You asked about the transfers on my pillows. I just download a graphic and print it out on Avery iron on paper found at Walmart or office supply stores. It's for light fabric. Use tshirt setting on your printer if the image has script so it will reverse the image and come out right on your piece.
Sometimes I mess them up, so they aren't always perfect! LOL!

Hi,
Oh this post is right up my alley. I love shopping for junk. The more I have to dig the more excited I am. I love thrift type stores as well as antique shops. Some though are too pricy. I am kindof a bargain shopper. However, If I absolutely LOVE it sometimes I splurge. My friends and I go to a stote here called NPS. We call it 'train wreck' because you never know what you'll find. When they ask, "Did you find everything you were looking for?" I think, heck I wasn't looking for anything. lol! My friends tease me and say that I am a treasure magnet. They can walk down an isle and find nothing. I walk down the same isle and find at least one. Sometimes three or four. lol, again! What can I say? Just love to dig. Well, enough of my ramblings. Look like you had a fun time.

I'd rather shop at a thrift store than antique store and Goodwill stores vary...some are really great while others are really nasty.
Visiting from This Old House 2 and enjoying my visit.
