A Good time for a Good book!

I know it’s a busy time but that can be the perfect time to read a good book.

My hubby and I read at night before we go to bed and it’s a nice way to unwind.

My sweet friend, Maggie from Just Books and Normandy Life sent me my first Mary Kay Andrews book, Savannah Blues....all the way from France!

And she was right...I fell in love with this author!

So I went to the library and checked out Deep Dish next. I loved the story and the characters in this book, too but was disappointed in the language. I don’t know why she felt it was necessary to use so many curse words so that knocked it down and notch or two for me. The book ended with some Southern recipes...that brought it back up a notch! heehee!

Today I checked out Blue Christmas and I will start reading that tonight! I can’t wait!

We bought the latest book by one of my favorite authors Charles Frazier.

In case you are new here....I’ll post a photo of my favorite author...and me taken last year!

I went goo goo ga ga over him ...right in front of my hubby (and his wife, too) ! haha!

One of my ALL time favorite books is Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier but you may recognize his name as the author of Cold Mountain. I can’t wait to read Nightwoods! My hubby is reading it first!

I have a stack of Christmas books on my library table. It’s such a great time to read the classic Christmas stories.

Do you have a favorite Christmas book? What are you reading now?

I loved Cold Mountain - where were you that you met the author? Did you have him autograph a book for you? Right now I'm reading "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and "South Pacific." I'm always reading more than one book at a time. I have a stack of books to read next to my end table and a bunch downloaded on my Kindle. I also have a huge wish list of books on Amazon. I love to read!

I have "Savanah Blues" on my "to-read" shelf! Glad to hear you liked it. I just finished "Room" and boy was it something different.

Books sound good. I'll have to check them out. I just reread Skipping Christmas by John Grisham, it's really a fun read and since I'm almost "Skipping" Christmas, fitting!!

I love Jan Karon the author of the Mitford series. If you have not read any of her books -Start with the first one and work your way through -You will fall in love with the characters and she has a whole separate book just for the recipes that all the characters are famous for. --What a thrill to meet your favorite author! Cute picture. I'll check out these books you suggested. and I'll let you know what I think I'm reading Patricia Cornwell newest right now.

Those books sound interesting but I will admit that I haven't done much reading lately. I put several books on my Christmas wish list so maybe Santa will cooperate. I will try very hard to be good and read them. I agree with you about the bad language in some books and movies that does nothing for the story line but is thrown in almost as if it is expected. I don't talk like that and don't like reading it. OK, off my soapbox. Have a great day!----Shannon

Hmm, I will have to look into Charles Frazer's books. Yesterday at the library I picked up a couple of Mona Simpsons books and I'm looking forward to reading them. However, it's been so busy that I might have to wait until after Christmas.

I haven't read any May Kay Andrews, I'll put her on my list! I have been reading creepy thrillers lately. Not many women like them, I've found. But I gobble them up. Funny thing is, I also love Jan Karon and have read all of them. Go figure!

Thank you, Diane for introducing the new author to us. I'll look when I go to the library. You look quite pleased with yourself in the photo with the author. I don't blame you, to meet a 'celebrity' is too awesome to pass up a photo op.
I'm reading Gone With The Wind right now, it's a first edition 1936 from Margaret Mitchell and I can't believe how lucky I was to be gifted with it. It's not a Christmas book but I'm so excited to read it. It's my favorite movie.
Merry Christmas,
Susan

Yay, new book titles! I always like what you share. I've been rereading some classics and am wanting some new titles. The local library here is kind of meager but the one on base is better- if I can ever get there!

How wonderful to meet your favorite author...and then actually go Goo Goo Ga Ga over him! Loved that description! :)
I don't really have a favorite Christmas book and at the moment, I'm not reading anything! I have a couple of books on my night stand, but have been soooo tired by the time I crawl into bed at night, I fall right asleep! Fun post!

Cold Mountain was one of my favorites. How lucky for you to meet the author.

Oh goody, book suggestions! I think the only thing I've ever read by Charles Frazier is Cold Mountain, so I added Thirteen Moons to my eBookFling wishlist, and a few by Mary Kay Andrews too.

How cool that you actually got to meet your favorite author, and get a photo together to boot! What fun!

Hugs,
Pam

Ohhhh, now I am really jealous! I haven't read any of Frazier's books since Cold Mountain, but now that you mention them, I will.

Vee said...

Oh forgot to answer the question...I'm reading "No Time on My Hands" a memoir by Grace Snyder. It's like reading a "Little House on the Prairie" book for adults.

No kidding! I loved the book 'Cold Mountain.' I'll have to check into 'Nightwoods,' as well as the other books you mentioned.

Found you on another blog, can't remember which! I'm your newest follower. :-)

Happy to have introduced you to Mary Kay.
Last month I read Itty Bitty Lies which was o.k. but not as good as Savannah Blues. I've got the two others that you mentioned waiting on the shelf and am in the middle of Savannah Breeze just now.
I'ts another with Weezie & Bebe as the main characters and I'm enjoying it very much.
Thanks for the other recommendations.
Sending all best wishes for a very Merry Christmas!
Maggie

I don't blame you one single bit for swooning over your favorite author. I would too, but so many of the ones I admire are dead~! Aw well. I need to find some new ones probably.
Merry Christmas, Diane.
