Lemons larger than Grapefruits?

We had such a beautiful drive out to the groves last week!

DSCN9672

The weather was fabulous

and the fruit was juicy and ripe!

One of the best parts about blogging is making friends!

And I have a friend that lives close to me...Del’s Shells.

She posted HERE about the groves and gave me good directions.

This is JoAnn Reynolds....

DSCN9695

She and her brother own Reynolds Grove and

DSCN9699

use some of the same equipment that their parents used!

DSCN9697

We walked around and took pics and enjoyed our visit!

DSCN9702

We bought Navel oranges, Satsumas, Grapefruit

and ONE lemon that we picked from the tree!

DSCN9688

Wait I want THAT one! heehee!

DSCN9690

That’s it!

DSCN9691

Here’s our ‘haul’!

DSCN9740

Whoops...where’s the Ponderosa Lemon?

DSCN9741

OH MY! It just doesn’t get any better than that!

DSCN9677

Well...except for the Poinsettias growing in their flower beds!

DSCN9686

Wish you were close by so that I could

share some fresh Florida sunshine...and fruit!

DSCN9746

Which do you want? One of each?

*Happy holidays*

Well, I started typing a comment and it just went away! :0 Wonderful looking fruit and that's the biggest lemon I've ever seen! We have a lemon tree and it's fruit is ripe at this moment too. I thought our fruit was big! ;) That looks like such a yummy juicy orange too! Nothing like fresh fresh citrus!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Oh how yummy and juicy looking. When we lived in South Florida I would take Alex to a grove. They had little tours and big trees and a park. Years later they tore it down to build houses, I was so sad. Your trip looked fabulous. How nice to have another blogging friend!

Ohhhh, I bet it is delicious! I've never seen a lemon so large. And I've never seen poinsettias growing in a garden before, though I have a few still carrying on here. One after two years and summer in the ravine. Ha! You always do the most interesting things, Lavender Dreamer!

Mouth watering!! Oh, to bite into them ... lucky you. Poinsettias grow into huge trees when we were living in Hawaii.

When I saw the title to your post today I immediately thought of Della and the fruit grove and wondered if it was the same one. The fruit there looks so amazing. I'd love to visit that place.

I am so glad you made it out to Reynolds! In all of the years we've been, I haven't ever met Joann...just the Mr. I guess he didn't have any pecans or kumquats left, huh?

Enjoy your fruit...I bet it's all gone by now! So sweet and juicy!
Hugs!

That is one huge lemon. I'm sure the fruit is so much better fresh from the tree, you can't get any better than that.

OH YUM! Here I am in cold gray Ohio & love watching what you do there in Florida. I love this post. It reminds me of when we lived in California during the 60s. My uncle owned an orange grove in Bakerfield & I always loved going to visit especially when the fruit was ripe. Nothing like pulling an orange off the tree & eating it fresh. So different taste than the ones we get here in Ohio. We also had a lime, lemon & grapefruit tree in our yard. But the fig tree was my all time favorite. So here I am in the part of the country that doesn't grow citrus...I miss it so so so much.

Dear Friend, you do go to the neatest places and do the most fun things! I want to be just like you when I grow up! Oh, wait I am grown up. I guess I just need to get out and be more adventurous. Hee hee. You and Mr. L.D. Should have a tv show titled- The Adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Lavender Dreamer. I would watch it! Seriously, the trip looked like a fun and educational one. I have seen the fruit growing in Fla. and Calif. but have never seen a poinsettia growing like that. The fruit looks lucious.-------Shannon

I keep trying to grow lemon trees, mini ones in pots - they don't survive the cold, when it gets cold here! We used to have one in our backyard when I was a child in California! I think it is fantastic to have fruit trees in the garden - this is lovely - wow! The size of those lemons - are they Meyer?
I hope you have a very Delightsome New Year,
Kathy

I Love those..I lived in Plantation for a year with my uncle (and family), a long long long time ago, and it never ceased to amaze me that so many neighbors let their ruby red grapefruits fall to the ground..they said the trees were"dirty" ..what a waste. My little cousin and me used to go up and down the street with his wagon and collect coconuts..soo good! Up here in the north they have NO IDEA what a real coconut tastes like...(or orange or even a lemon!) at ALL it's stages..and one neighbor had mangoes..she let them drop too because she said she was allergic..when all she had to do was peel them..oh well..I hope they are better about it now (that was..oh...about 1969-70.)
One of each..I'll take one of each..

I can taste that juicy fruit just by looking at your pics. There's nothing quite like fruit picked straight from the tree. That lemon is unbelievable. would make one heck of a lemon tart. Glad you had a fun trip. We had record warm here today, 58 degrees. Nice but weird for Dec.

nancy huggins said...

I guess we will just have to pay the price to have our fruit shipped up North..but I guess that is O K since I have 3 sons that drive over the road and it is nice to know some times I am helping the truckers get a pay check :)

Wow, how lucky are you to have access to fresh citrus like that, makes my mouth water just seeing your pictures. Right now all this looks pretty bad in our local grocery stores, but you get it off the tree, what a treat.

Cranberry Morning said...

Nothing like REAL fruit, fresh from the tree. I can't tell you how long it's been since I ate a good orange. What a delightful treat!

Hope you have a safe, healthful, and wonderful 2012.

That fruit looks so delicious :) Loved seeing pictures of those poinsettias ~ never seen anything like that! Beautiful :)

Me want. In Maryland grocery stores our grapefruits are the size of small oranges and the oranges are the size of lemons. They are dried out and terribly expensive. Correction: We do have some good grocery stores like Wegmans and Whole Foods but they are hours away.
