Time to grill! A Flashback to 1961!

We love to grill here in Florida! The weather is nice enough to grill year round and we have a nice big gas grill in our courtyard.

Now let’s get the Betty Crocker Outdoor Cookbook from 1961 to see what’s on the menu tonight!

How about Shish Kabobs?

DSCN2888

This is one of our favorites...

DSCN2883

especially since hubby gets to wear a skirt...I mean a kilt! Oh wait! That’s not MY hubby!

DSCN2887

And I KNOW this is not him! lol

Here’s mine! My knight in shining armor!

DSCN2894

(I hope he doesn’t mind the teasing...because he’s grilling beef ribs tonight! I love you, honey!)

This is a great meal for me because hubby does it all!

He skewers the meat and veggies together for more even cooking....

26DSCN9968_thumb[1]

and then we put everything in a big bowl to serve.

We like to lightly toast pita bread, butter it and put our goodies inside and serve it with rice...buttered of course!

Yummy grilling, and that's a super way to have summer cooking heat stay out-of-doors. My sis and I have many of the same followers, we started at the same time. You may like to join her, too. www.simplesequins.com Her name is Renae. Thanks for the bbq ideas and the nice ol' cookbook. Mary

Cute, cute, cute cookbook! I love vintage cookbooks! Aren't you lucky to have a "grill-master" in the house! I'm thinking it's time for my hubby to take over the grilling! LOL!!!

Your dinner looks delicious! Enjoy!

That's the best way to cook kabobs! I love putting it all in a bowl and picking out what to eat.

Hubs does a great venison steak marinaded in beer, chopped garlic, and a lil bit of soy sauce. The steaks turn out yummy. We do the same if we make them venison kabobs.

This looks so darn good. What a great idea to cook the meat and veggies separately. Love the idea of the pita bread with it too. It's 7:15 here and I still haven't had dinner...send some over please.

Great cookbook...I love grilled food. Summer is great for cooking outside. Kabobs are a favorite. You can grill the ribeye steaks too. Use a basket to grill the thinly sliced meat. It's heavenly. Thanks for stopping by and leaving me kind words.

My husband is the cook, griller, chef -- all of the above. I just shop for the menu the best I can getting sales and discounts and then I clean up. We bbq hamburgers, dogs and pineapple most every time. Some times salmon and chicken, too. Yum this is making me hungry!!!!! (and I've already had dinner)

Hi Diane! Thanks for the sweet shout out about my party. I always enjoy seeing your vintage books, and the food looks delicious. I like how your husband does the veggies and meat separetely so everything is cooked to your liking. The pita sandwich looks yummy served with the rice, but maybe that's because I love rice and could eat it for every meal. Have a great Tuesday!

Hi Diane,

The old Betty Crocker recipe book is lovely and your meal looks good.
We cook on our BBQ a lot, Saturday night my husband cooked beef steak and made a Thai beef salad.

Happy new week

I love old cookbooks! And we love grilled food, too. Kabobs are a favorite and we usually do chunks of chicken, yellow squash, zucchini, mushrooms and onions. Also, sometimes with cherry tomatoes and green pepper chunks, too. Yum! Now I'm hungry and it's too late to be eating!

I have that cookbook - bought it just for the images because hubby would NEVER look at a cookbook for barbeque...or wear kilt whilst cooking out! Your meal looks yummy.

I didn't know (or didn't pay attention) that you are in Florida. I am in SF and if I can get my hubby to cook me some of that buttered rice in a kilt, I will be a happy (and amused) wife ;-)

Diane, what a great book. I'd like to have one in my cookbook library. Today the weather is cooperating, so we may have picnic dinner as we don't have any grills.
