The Sisterhood of the Traveling Susan Apron

Do you know what it is?

Have you seen the Traveling Susan Apron?

IMG_3755

(borrowed from Susan’s blog)

It started back in March 2012.  A wonderful lady named Susan who blogs at My Mother's Apron Strings creates an apron each month and gives it away!  The winner of the March apron was Meggie. She decided to keep the apron for a couple of weeks, write some of her experiences in a journal and then send the apron and journal on to a blogging friend. So far is has been to these sweet ladies in places around the world…

Meggie at Meggie On The Prarie in Texas

Elaine at Pear Tree Log in England

Scarlet at Tales From Beyond The Nook in England

Jane at The Maple Syrup Mob in Ontario, Canada

Deb at Just Cats in Ontario, Canada

Susan at Just Sayin' in Ontario, Canada

and Linda at A La Carte in Georgia.

I feel so honored to be chosen to join this Sisterhood and use this special apron. I plan to take good care of it…and pack it in my suitcase to go along with me on my journeys!

Yes…the Traveling Apron is getting ready to travel by car!

So I got busy baking magic cookies for the trip!

DSCN4824

These are made using my mother in law’s recipe and they are the BEST!

DSCN4842

Oh…the ones on this plate are all round?

DSCN4850

Wasn’t there another plate with odd shapes?

DSCN4851

HERE they are!

DSCN4853

Thanks Linda for this wonderful honor and for all of the sweet gifts you sent along!

The apron is happy here in Florida with the palm trees!

Buy Handmade!

I love pretty handmade items throughout my home.

InspireHandmade

They are each one special and unique!

DSCN4802

I won a giveaway at Marydon’s Blushing Rose and my gift was a ‘one of a kind’ hand made cover for my NOOK. Donna made it especially for me.

DSCN4808

It even has a little pocket inside for the cord!

DSCN4809

Donna’s blog is Brynwood Needleworks and she makes all kinds of lovely things. You will be inspired looking at all of her new creations!

DSCN4810

Thanks to both of them for a lovely gift that I can really use!

DSCN4803

We just went to a presentation given by 2 lovely ladies from our library on ways to use an e reader and resources you can find at the library for your e reader. It was very informative!

DSCN4713

(forgive the circle spots on my lens…gggrrrr!)

Do you have an e reader?

What kind do you have?

I made something…with shells!

I am a shell seeker. I LOVE to walk the beach and hunt for shells. I think about it…I dream about it…one day I even drove to the ocean all by myself to walk the beach! I search for trays and containers to ‘store’ my shells and I’ve found some really neat ways to display them.

But now, I’ve actually sat down with my glue and some toothpicks and a box of tiny shells and made something pretty.

Well, first I got this candle topper at the thrift store for 25 cents and put it on top of an empty candle holder.

DSCN4708

I placed shells all around to see how they would look and then I glued them on.

DSCN4727

I had a few tiny pearls so I glued them here and there, too.

DSCN4723

I filled the candle holder with shells, too.

DSCN4724

So for 25 cents and a little glue (let’s not count what it costs to go to the beach and shell seek),

DSCN4725

meet my precious ‘Sea Shell Fairy’.

Have you ever made anything with seashells?

(I still have glue and a few more seashells!)

Do you take photos of sunsets or sunrises?

I’m definitely a sunset kind of girl!

DSCN4631

And I took these one night this week.

DSCN4633

The very next morning, my ‘up at sunrise’ hubby took these to show me what a sunrise looks like.

DSCN4634

I decided NOT to edit or alter these in any way so that you can hopefully see the true colors.

(I didn’t even crop!)

IP17Sept

We have some beautiful clouds here in Florida that lead to glorious sunsets and sunrises.

When someone impresses you!

One advantage of being friendly is meeting people along the way! ( a pretty sky on my way out)

DSCN4665

I have never been shy and I remember my sons being embarrassed when they were growing up. They always asked me why I talk to everyone.

It works both ways. I have one of those familiar faces….see what Dear Helen has to say about that HERE…so I have a lot of people talk to me, too.

Today I met the most delightful lady.

We were both shopping at a big department store, and we were both buying watches from the clearance shelf…very similar watches. She asked about having a link taken out and the next thing I know, we are both back in jewelry having links taken out of our $5 watches! lol So we talked. I even said, my name is Diane…and she gasped! She went to school with a girl that looked JUST like ME and had the same name! In SC. Well….I have the same accent but mine is from Arkansas! heehee!

We just kept right on talking and she said she has been told she looks like Reba McIntire…and she DOES! And she told me a funny anecdote about meeting Dolly Parton one time.

So that’s what I wanted to write about today.

Being friendly and having a chance to meet someone that is lovely through and through.

She is a pastor’s wife so I came home and ‘googled’ their church and found this photo.

Tim and Jan Flipped July 08

Now I think I’ll write her an email and tell her I featured her on my blog today!

My day was special all the way around. My best blog buddy, Della and I did some shopping together, too! We tried to talk AND shop! heehee!

UPDATE: My friend and close neighbor, Danielle wrote the most perfect comment,

“Oh I just talk to everybody!!! I always say, if you talk with someone long enough you will always find a 'common thread' that binds you together....and you never now when that 'stranger' just happens to be one of God's earthly angels..sent to brighten your day.”

Do you talk to people when you shop?

All play and no work?

I have seen a pattern in my posts lately. It looks like all I do is color in coloring books, decorate with dollies and watch my scarecrows dance!

WELL…my Hubby WORKS!!!

DSCN4655

Let’s walk around back….

DSCN4652

One of the jobs waiting for the house to be painted….oh and the gutters to be installed…

DSCN4653

was new mulch in the flower beds.

DSCN4687

And later we can plant some more azaleas and maybe some more roses.

DSCN4649

60 BIG bags of mulch and a lot of man power and it’s starting to come together!

DSCN4654

Thanks hubby! I think I’ll sew now. I’m in the middle of making a mouse and I have a bat that needs eyes.

DSCN4680

I know it’s a lot of play work…

but someone has to do it!

PMDSCN4684

Enjoy your day!

And THANKS hubby!

I owe you a Yankee Dime!

‘Fun and Frivolous!’

I just have to share these cute little guys!

DSCN4663

I didn’t find them here in Florida.

My sister sent them to me from Arkansas!

DSCN4666

They are Dollar Tree buys, solar powered.

They dance and move all day long here in the sunshine state!

I don’t usually shop at the Dollar stores

(I pick up enough ‘cheap' stuff from thrifting)

but I went to a couple looking for them and found one!

DSCN4679

Skeletons are not ‘my thing’ so this one is going to my sister in Arkansas! heehee!

Of course you know anything cute will end up in the lanai!

DSCN4675

DANCING in the LANAI!!!

Have you seen any of these?

~Autumn in the Lanai~

I put out a few Fall pretties in the lanai.

IPMosaic

I love decorating for the seasons and holidays on my baker’s rack.

These precious dolls are handmade by Pat from All is Bright and the precious owl and kitty came from the Etsy store, Ninnas Attic !

I love all of my pretty things!

Does if feel like Fall at your house?

Decorating ‘by accident’

Well, I was moving some things around in the lanai to make room for Fall pretties and I moved a little mesh bag of driftwood. I put it in a basket…kind of a ‘catch all’.

DSCN4614

It’s a nice big handmade basket that a sweet lady named Fran made.

DSCN4613

Oh, but the Flora Doora was there, too. I’ll just put the driftwood inside the Flora Doora (made by Jane at Flora Doora)

PMDSCN4583

I hung it on the French doors leading to the lanai and walked by with a few Fall items to put on the baker’s rack…

PMDSCN4587

and a prim crow jumped inside.

(My crow was made by Brenda from The Rusty Thimble!)

How easy was that?

PMDSCN4588

Do you plan to do any decorating this weekend?

Maybe I’ll just throw some things in the air and see where they land.

Oh….you thought that was the way I decorated anyway?

HEEHEEHEE!!!
