Hanging a Painting up high “Solution”

When we bought our house in Florida I wanted to try not to ‘junk up’ the area above my cabinets and instead collect some nautical things over time to get the look I wanted. I haven’t really found many things here that would work though. I need to go to the Gulf Coast and look through some old shops there. But I did finally add something this week!

(it looks like the top right hand corner is too high but it’s not….remember I am taking the photo from down below and not level with the painting)

It’s exactly what I had ‘pictured’ for this spot and it was a great price!

I even had my hubby guess and he guessed exactly right….well, almost. He guessed $10 and that’s what the tag said. But it was 60% off and then I got another little discount for being a regular shopper.

I paid a total of $3 and some change!!!

Now hubby just needed to figure out a way to hang it OVER a junction box.

He used a coat hook with a hose clamp to keep the wire from slipping down.

And he did a great job! He has long arms! Thanks honey! (I stood in the living room looking over a wall for this photo)

I’ve made a little start with the ship, a basket of shells and some seagulls flying overhead!

Looks great! Love the seagulls too. My kitchen was close to that blue color a couple paint jobs ago-- looks good with white, doesn't it?

Great job for hubby - thumbs up! I do like nautical especially if I lived near the ocean. You do great in decorating your home for the feel good feelings. That is what counts - whatever makes you feel good in your own home.

Warm hugs
Pat

I really like your color scheme-and how the painting was the right price, the right color and whoohoo covered up that unsightly box!

Wow, what a deal! Your nautical corner looks great -- and such a good idea to cover that box! I love a nautical look -- I have a beach and shells theme in my hall bath... makes me happy to think of the beach when there are none where I am!

You are a thrifty shopper Diane! That's was a really good deal and the picture looks great above your shelf. The seagulls are fun to see too. I got your PC in the mail today. Thanks so much!! I hope you are having a sunny day there. It's rainy and cold here (50!) after being in the upper 80's it's not a nice change for sure. Hugs, Pamela

That area looks so nice, Diane! It always takes time to find the "right" treasures. The nautical style always looks great in areas along the coast/ beaches. Along the coast of New England it's very popular.

It looks perfect there and what a bargain! I took my basement cupboards clear to the top. I knew with my open shelving and quite a few glass cabinets that it would be to over done. Plus, I'm getting older and don't want more to dust. lol! Big 60 coming next month. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

I LOVE it- it is perfect for the spot. Wonder who the Einstein was that put that junction box up there and didn't buy it in the studs?

Gorgeous bargain! Love the idea of using that space with art. I swap out kitchen stuff up there but do less and less as climbing onto the cabinet to reach it is getting old (IT is getting old, not I'M getting old, mind you ;))

Wow what a great bargain, I never find things I want that cheap :-( Keep well Diane

That's a great painting and a very innovative way to hang it. For $3 you can't go wrong. I like nautical decor, but not too much. We have paintings of the coastline around the house, more scenery than boats, although there are boats in them.

good for you! that's a great price! those are some kind of angles around your ceiling!, wow!

I don't know her, but we grew up a few miles apart. I did have one fabulous conversation with her mother one day at a fast food place, when her book first came out. I can not tell you how much that lady impressed me, she told me about raising her family, her husband, her children's spouses and how she dealt with them, her own work, and so much more. She asked me if she was talking too much, no way, I could have listened to her for hours. Elegant indeed, I still remember that and count it one of my great chance encounters in my life.

Ooh, I just read your comment over at Stephanie's. I would have missed the tag peeking out of the book. :) Always so fun to see.
Love it!!

Great display, Diana! Love the seagulls too. It's easy to decorate coastal style in FL!! During my trip, I saw many great little shops and salvage places that had great items. I guess, I'll wait till I have a beach condo, lol. I'm back in NYC now, bummer.
