Finding something Pretty AND highly collectible

I don’t care as much about how collectible something is because I buy what I like and keep it. I don’t resell anything. If I can’t use it, I find someone who can or donate it to one of my favorite thrift stores.

MeshBagIMG_5006

So I had a nice surprise when I bought this pretty little gold mesh bag, made by Whiting and Davis and found out it was highly collectible. Using a google search I discovered that a lot of celebrities have been photographed carrying them.

There’s a wonderful website HERE showing Nicole Kidman, Shakira, Eva Longoria and even Paris Hilton with these bags at big events. The one I bought looks the most like the purse Paris Hilton has…isn’t that COOL!?

(the closure is interesting, too)

I have a few vintage bags and my most treasured is this beaded purse that was my Grandmother’s.

Maybe I should go to Thrift stores more often! My hubby would have a laugh. He knows I manage to stop in pretty often!

I’m joining Thrifty Things Friday!

Also Katherine’s Corner,

Ivy and Elephants

and Jann for Share Your Cup !

Do you have any vintage purses or bags?

What fun! You just never know what you're going to find on any given day. I like your grandmother's bag even better. What a treasure - and especially because it was hers.

NICE find!
it's such a cute bag!!
I have an old tote that belonged to my mother...it has beaded vines and songbirds on it.
When i go thrifting, I usually make a beeline for the purses.

have a great day:)

I love both bags. It seems quite frivolous to have a bag that's pretty instead of functional...I like being frivolous!!

What a great find, now you can be photographed out on the town with it:-) Love the color on the inside too. Your grandmother's beaded bag is stunning.

Just love the beaded bag that was your Grandmother's. Lovely! Do you display it anywhere? The gold clutch is pretty too...my daughter has one very similar - we bought it at a garage sale. Most recently at a garage sale, I bought a needlepoint purse in fabulous condition for $3. The plan is to re-work it and decorate/embellish magnolia pearl style. Cheers, Catherine

Until I read the above comments, I thought I thought I'd be the only one who would rather have a bag that grandma owned than one carried by Paris! But lucky you - you have them both! FUN!

That is gorgeous! I do have one vintage bag that I bought many many years ago in a thrift shop in New Orleans. I'll have to find it and photograph it sometime.

Back in the 80's, my aunt bought me a navy mesh bag made out of those same metal circles...even though it was navy, it was really glittery in the sun. I eventually sold it at a resale shop. I wish I had kept it.

I love your grandmother's purse! My grandmother and great-grandmother used to have my aunt make them purses with purse kits...where she glued on the stones...had pictures of flowers or owls...and they were kinda' hard....held in a particular shape....had a strap that went over and close it....do you remember those? I'd love to have one of them!!! They were really popular in the late 60's, early 70's.

That's a great find!

I wouldn't have any idea if it's vintage if I see one..but I love thrift store.

#2 I like. I have a bag I used to go out with to places in Toronto many years ago. I think being married 51 years it will be now a run of the mill purse.

Now you got me to see where it is if I have it still ha,ha.

Both bags are beautiful and it is good to be ready in case you are invited to a celebrity gala! 8+) Finds like this are what keep us going back to shop another day.

Good Evening Diane, This is a beautiful bag, so small and delicate, but I really love your grandmother's vintage bag, it is so gorgeous. I do a lot of beadwork and I can see the beadwork on the bag is stunning.
Isn't it exciting when you find something special.... it doesn't have to be valuable... just something you love and will treasure.
Best wishes
Daphne

I own a similar evening bag, but it is a recent buy and not vintage. I do love that yours is a vintage one --makes it all the more special!

Hope you are having a wonderful summer, Diane. My granddaughter has been keeping me very busy as I babysit all week. I love it but it means less computer time. She is napping now--nice to have a few minutes to catch up with you!
