Vintage Lace…To cut or NOT to cut!

I found some vintage lace that’s too beautiful to cut!

IMG_4672

When I made the pillow on my bed with some wide vintage lace, it was already cut by someone else. (it still had some silky fabric attached to it, that I trimmed off)

So when I saw these at the thrift store, I thought of all of the wonderful lace.

But there’s no way I would cut any of these.

Well, except for this one. I love the color of this one but it is ‘worn’ so I will put it in my vintage lace stash.

This is my favorite one. It has a matching gown, too!

I actually found these at 2 different thrift stores last week. Hospice Thrift had $1 day so I thought that was a great deal. (a couple were even less)

Would you cut them?

I feel the same way about old quilts.

I just can’t do it!

I know what you mean -- it's hard to put scissors to something so lovely. I guess you have to think about what you would do with it if you left it whole, or if you repurposed it, and go from there! (I know that wasn't much help!) Maybe you should wear them!

What a dilemma! I had the same problem when I bought a couple wool sweaters at the thrift store. I had purchased them with felting projects in mind. When I got them home, I simply couldn't cut them up. It seemed so wasteful!

The laces are pretty, aren't they. :-)

They are beautiful Diane. I can see why you would not want to cut them!

I love lace!! Your dresses are lovely!! Do you have granddaughters who would LOVE to wear them? Your pillow cases are beautiful!! Was probably once a table cloth? So much time went in to crocheting those cases. Great find!

I wouldn't cut them, either.

Beautiful lace--I'm glad someone who appreciates the work bought them, XOXO

No. I wouldn't cut them. If I were you, I'd wear them! You'd look like an angel. =D

So lacey and feminine looking...I love them! I'd sure hate to cut them up, too.

Simply beautiful! I would not be able to cut them unless it was for a VERY special project. I love the type of trim that is around the sleeves on the little bed jacket. Great score!!

Oh, that bed jacket, how beautiful!! I never thought to go to the thrift and buy for the lace! Great idea,
you're so inspirational!

I couldn't cut it. If they fit, I would feel like Loretta Young! (showing my age)

They are so pretty and remind me of another time when women wore such gorgeous frilly things to bed! Not sure I could cut them at all or for sure not yet!

I would SO be wearing those!!! They are beautiful! Don't cut!!!! Can't believe you got those for a dollar or less....I have got to go thrifting!

sewwhat!

I'm ruthless these days! If I can't wear it, I would repurpose it. Even quilts. If it's too badly worn to use, repurposing the parts that are still good is actually saving the work! But I do feel your pain!

Just gorgeous!

I love the lacy things you bought...yes, it would be hard to just cut them up...but then you are very talented, you could make something sweeter.xoxo,Susie

I love vintage too. Something so fragile about it. I sometime cut but only if my heart tells me it is ok.

They're all so pretty and would be beautiful on display. I might give myself permission to alter them if the right inspiration came along.

Oh my those are gorgeous! Are they "wearable"?? I sure would NOT cut them up -- that would be tragic! Can't wait to see what you have planned for them.

Beautiful find! I'd just hang them on some pretty padded hangers and hang them in the bedroom. I agree - they are too pretty to cut up.

Oh no! I wouldn't cut them either, well accept for that one but the others are just too beautiful! I can't believe you found these at a thrift shop. I have a few shops here in town but never find anything nice like this..

Well, they are really beautiful. I probably would not have the heart to cut them, although it would be OK if you did. Decisions, decisions, lol! What great prices you got them at, too :)

Lovely lace! It IS hard to cut up things sometimes. But if you will be turning it into something even better then you should feel good about it! You're renewing it! Have a wonderful weekend!

Your vintage lace is so pretty and I would have trouble cutting it up myself. I need to get mine washed, sorted and ironed. Oh I remember now. I did cut up a vintage petticoat to make doll clothes. They are in an old post of mine. I now wish I hadn't cut it up. I was here earlier today and thought I left a comment. Senior moment.
