Summer Finches

House Finch sounds so dull.

IMG_5294weave

But our finches here in Florida have been colorful all summer.

BestRib

I finally figured out a spot I can take photos of our courtyard through glass and get a decent shot. At least it’s not through the screen of the window!

Yes, we have finches here in Colorado. Great photos of your little guy. Do they stay all year long as they do here?

Stacey said...

How cute! Yes we have red house finches here all summer. They are currently my most frequent visitors at the feeders. I've been at my Dad's a lot this summer and he had a nest of them in a fern. We got to see the babies take off. :)

Linda aka Crafty Gardener said...

We have lots of finches, both house and purple at the feeders. Some come all year round. Love your photos, great you found a spot to take photos from without the little cuties noticing you.

Good Morning Diane, These finches are adorable and you managed to get some wonderful photographs.
They are obviously very happy and love visiting your garden.
Have a lovely Sunday.

Our finches don't look anything like that sweet, colourful bird. How sweet!

Great pictures! Yes, we do have them. In fact, a couple made a nest on top of one of our porch columns this summer and had three babies! It was so much fun watching them. Not so much fun cleaning up all the the bird poo after they flew the nest, lol.

Great job getting the photos, Diane! Birds move so quickly. Our neighbor sees Goldfinch, but I never have. I've heard them singing, though.

We had finches as kids but I don't remember them being so pretty!

Not at my house! I'll have to enjoy yours. Screens plague me too when trying to take a shot out of doors. Always something! Glad you've found a good location.

I had house finches in TX, but haven't seem them here. That one is either kind of plump or has just been bathing.

Beautiful captures of the colorful finch. I see both the House and Purple Finches come and go. But at different times of the year. I take a lot of my yardbird photos thru the windows. Pretty photos, have a happy week!

We have a variety of birds here from swallows, sparrows, robins, purple martins, blue jays, to the bigger species like gulls and hawks, crows and magpies. I don't recall seeing finches though.

Your little House Finch is so cute. I used to see them occasionally in years past, but now we seem to get mostly mocking birds, brown thrashers, cardinals and doves. I'm going to start looking again. Maybe I'm just missing them.

You did get some nice shots! If there are any finches here, they are the brown ones that look a lot like the wrens
I have the same problem with screen, plus I have a wrought iron, ornamental door that is hard to get a good pic thru (example - last post).
Thanks for stopping by. They are cute, but fast and hard to photograph.
Have great week.

Yeah, you did a great job at captruing these beauties through glass. I have to do the same thing in the Winter months, for the most part~

Donna said...

They are sweet little birds. We love the purple finches too. We get them at our feeder during the winter. We used to see them all the time at our other place. But now we live right next door to woodlands and before we lived on a lot of clear property.

Oh Diane, these pictures are so cute and charming. :) Yes, we do have house finches, purple finches, and goldfinches here in N.C. We've had goldfinches this summer at our thistle feeder, and we have the other finches year-round at our safflower feeder. We've never gotten any pictures this good, though. Great job!!

Visiting from Mosaic Monday; have a wonderful week!

What a cutie!! Love that photo of him stretching is neck for a better look. I've never seen a house finch here in Ohio that looks anything like that. We have some yellow finches that are gorgeous that we see occasionally. Of course we have the bright red cardinals here that are our state bird.

Thanks for the great photos of such a sweetie!
Blessings, Edie Marie

Your house finch looks like a cheery fellow. I don't think we have finches here, but I'm not much of a bird watcher so I could be wrong.
Have a wonderful week!

We have house finches that visit the feeder stations in the Sandbox garden and I always think that this lovely little red headed bird got a very ordinary name. We think he is too pretty to be just an ordinary house finch. Valerie

We have house finches in the Sandbox garden too and love to watch them. It is too bad they have an ordinary name for a pretty bird. Valerie

We used to have house finches at our house in Oregon..the one we sold to travel..but I really haven't seen them here at the lake and never in Florida...nice pix thru the window, which must be much cleaner than mine ;)))
