Vintage Linens - Homemade and Boughten

Let’s start with definitions…

home·made adjective made in the home, on the premises, or by one's own efforts

bought·en /ˈbôtn/ adjective bought rather than homemade.

When you don’t feel so good, do you find yourself thinking of all of the things you want to do when you feel better?

I do….and I did! I was a little ‘under the weather’ last week and thought of all kinds of projects I wanted to do just as soon as I could.

I feel better now and the first thing I did was make new pillowcases. I wash my pillowcases more often than my sheets and they were thin and faded. Actually my linens are faded, too but I love them so much that I want to keep using them. My ‘extra’ linens are solid colors and oh, how I love these beautiful pink flowers.

I looked through my stash of fabric and my eyes fell on this old sheet that I had cut apart to make an apron. There was just enough left to make 2 pillowcases.

IMG_5552

They have been washed several times and are smooth and soft. Perfect for ‘new’ pillowcases. I even made them a little longer, the way I like them.

Here’s my bed made up with some boughten pillowcases….vintage of course!

The pillows look great! What a find in your stash! It's always FuN to go into the stash and find a piece of fabric and have enough to use. :)

A beautifully made bed always makes us feel better. My grandmother taught me as a very little girl how to make a bed and I still make those hospital corners. Now, thanks to you, I think I might make some pillow cases. I have retired from teaching and as my friends go back to work next week, I need projects. Lots of projects. Yours are beautiful and if they lifted your spirit, perhaps mine, too, will be lifted. I love the post card header, too.

Oh, that bed looks so inviting!! I made some new pillowcases a while back because it seems like the new ones are all solid colors now. Bravo to you for using the embroidered one, too. I am way to lazy to iron them.

I'm so glad that you are feeling better! You newest creations are just perfect for your bed! Our regular sheets are pretty old and broken in! Our newest ones are flannel sets from L.L. Bean, purchased a few years ago. Oh, I love how they feel in the wintertime!
