I’ve been feeling very “BLUE”!

I don’t know what you’ll think when I tell you this little story.

BlueBan6IMG_5832

When I write it down it sounds pretty crazy even to me! But here goes…

8 years ago we bought a beautiful home here in Florida. The decorating was ‘not to our taste’ but the house was almost new and the layout, size and location was perfect! It was even painted lavender on the outside…PERFECT.

Well, the first thing we did was remove every strip of wallpaper in the whole house.(Even though the house was fairly new, the décor looked like something from the ‘70s!)

We had the mauve carpet ripped up and professionals came in and painted most of the rooms a neutral color and new carpet was installed.

So here’s the funny thing….once the wallpaper was down and the bathroom walls were ‘plain white’….I was able to live with it.

FOR. EIGHT. YEARS!

(this was taken when the original owners lived here)

BathMaster3129

This is the OLD wallpaper!

We got busy doing other things and a blue bathroom moved down to the bottom of the list.

This summer my hubby got the ‘painting bug’ and gave me my dream bathroom!

IMG_5826

And guess what? It’s BLUE…the perfect shade of stormy slate blue!

IMG_5831

We decided to keep the brass fixtures for now and not do anything major. (it’s an L shaped bath)

Well, hopefully the light fixture will move to the TOP of the list!

Ask me about it in ……

oh say…

8 years!

Good Morning Diane, How fabulous, I love the shade of blue you have painted your bathroom.
I agree with you, we have painted walls in our home and I know wall paper is very popular at the moment, but I like to be able to see the pictures I hang and not have a busy wallpaper detracting from them.
Enjoy lots of luxurious baths in your new bathroom.
Best Wishes
Daphne

Looks great with the white fixtures. Very classic.

I love it! I can't believe that you lived with plain white walls for 8 years, LOL. And now that you have posted the light fixture for the whole blogging world to see, perhaps hubby will be shamed into getting it replaced pronto!

Dont' feel bad, I moved into my new place 6 years ago and everything is still white. I am inspired by your beautiful bathroom.

I actually love it, Diane. I think the blue is perfect...and guess what? They are showing the gold tones/brass in newer homes again. lol We saw quite a bit of it on the parade of homes this year. You night be just ahead of your time!;>) Hope you have a wonderful week. xo Diana

Although my bathroom is yellow, the rest of my house (kitchen, dining/living) is very close to that same blue that you used. I love it against the white trim.

I love that blue...but here it would feel too cold in the middle of winter...I think it's the perfect warm climate colour!

That's about the speed we work! D

It is a beautiful, calming blue. My bathroom is Alice Blue so I get the whole "blue" thing.

Your hubby is a peach for painting the bathroom!

Wow! What a difference that made and I love that shade of blue! And there's nothing wrong with being happy with something for years and years before needing a change! :)

Diane..
Love the new BLUE bathroom!
it is gorgeous..
Our master also has a corner tub..
which we both dislike.
our plans are to totally revamp the bathroom, installing a regular tub, and a much better walk in glass shower..oh yes, did I forget to mention removing glass blocks and installing an operable window as well as an exhaust vent! the room is on the west, making it always HOT and a constant battle with mildew and mold!
just hoping i do not have to wait for 8 years like you did!
love and hugs..

Thank you so much for your sweet words on my blog. I love your blue bathroom, what a dream, wonderful.
Have a nice week.

I used to have a blue bathroom and loved it.

Then it went out .

Now we have a white bathroom.

I know when I had the blue it was hard to clean the tub unless you faithfully did it mpore then twice a week.

I am too unstable to get a blue bathroom clean now.

I will stick to the white tub and sink.

It is pretty blue. I must confess that. Nice look.

Diane, I love your blue and white bathroom! It's so fresh and beachy looking. It takes us a long time to get around to doing things too and then sometimes it just takes us a while to finish projects. It's always such a delight when something is done!

i like it! makes me think of the sea.

That shade of blue is exactly what I would picture for your home. It's very beachy looking. I totally understand the never-ending remodeling list. My husband and I often start a zillion projects at once and then have to figure out when they will all get done.

It's amazing how fast 8 years will go by! I love your blue bath, it's a great color for keeping cool! Congrats on such a beautiful job!

Cheryl @ TFD said...

Haha! We get things done about that fast around here, too. I love that shade of blue and our bathroom downstairs is about that color. But, it's not as spiffy looking a bathroom as yours, so I won't show it to you! It's still awaiting some work too, but I fear it's probably been longer than 8 years.

The new blue color is so pretty, Diane! It really compliments the white cabinets and fixtures so well. We were lucky that the house we bought had neutral paint colors that we liked, but my son and DIL just went through months of wallpaper removal in their new home -- it was hard work removing all of that and painting!

First of all, the paint is just gorgeous. I love it..and I am not a BLUE person. (ok..well..sometimes! :) But, heavens it's the little things..you know? The light fixture would add just that extra bit of charm. You sound like as much of a patient soul as my PH! Heavens, Sweetie, go find a cute light fixture..maybe that matches the shower trim or something and stick it up there. THEN you can wait for 8 years and if you want to change it out then..well..by all means, go for it! IN THE MEANTIME... :):) plleeeeesseee put up a light fixture.

Now I know this probably isn't what either of you expect to hear..but.. Ok, ok, I'll mind my own business! LOL
Big hugs!

Oh I love the blue you picked.

Your bathroom is pretty adorable color. I bet you love to sit in the tub and admire the blue surroundings beside relaxing in tub but that is relaxing right. Ha-ha.

Wall paper hate it.

They the decorators have nothing more to do but bring back wall paper.

You go show them. Your choice is much nicer. Wall paper is a yuk decision.

I lived in wall paper all my young chilhood.

Then when I hit 13. My dad surprised me. He painted my room the eggs shell robin color. I loved it. When I got home from school.

Then he did the living room from wall paper to a burgundy. The den a mint green.

I love pastel colors for me.

I now have white Kitchen change and the molding trimming in other rooms.

I love it.
