Literary Friday is Mysterious!

I’ve been on a mystery kick and checked this book from the library just because of it’s cover and guess what? It was very good AND very funny! It only took me two nights to read it and I loved the main character. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Last night I started this mystery. It’s a little more involved and will be great to read this weekend.

Here’s my stack from the library this week.

Don’t you love the cover of this book? It’s a Waterhouse painting similar to one in my bedroom

and isn’t this one pretty and blue!

These are books I bought at book sales this week.

I’m joining Ricki Jill for Literary Friday

and Anything Blue Friday.

Do you ever buy (or check out from the library) a book based on it’s cover?

Happy Weekend!

I can't believe how many books you have for this week. You amaze me. I bet that 1st cookbook of Paula's is something. I saw her in person , on the tonight show, when we were in Hollywood. She made fried pork chops and deep fried mac/cheese....who frys mac/cheese?? What?? not enough fat in your diet. :):) xoxo,Susie

I love books--and don't think I could ever go the way of a Kindle or such because, like you, the feel of the book is half the story! XOXO

Good Morning! Susie from 'She Junks' said I should come over and see the cover of this book with the lady smelling the roses. I just did a post about my new couch and showed that same picture in my living room. I've had it for many years and it's such a special picture, isn't it? Do you know who it was painted by?

Oh, look at all these books. I must get back to reading.

Have a nice weekend.

What a great selection. I love good, clean mysteries and the cover of that first book is cute. Hope you have a lovely day for reading.

I've added Laura Levine to my list for when we go to the library this week. I will look at a book because of its cover but usually read the reanble or the first few paragraphs to make the final decision. Of course I will pick up books by my favourite authros without reading anything inside at all.

So when will you have time to read all of those books? LOL.
I used to have time to read, but now it seems that only a few minutes at the end of the day...

Maybe if I dropped my blogs, FB page, and well, ummm Pinterest...

Have you been judging books by their covers? I love doing that! You do have some very interesting looking ones there and lots of reading ahead!

Since I have been more active on the internet I am now attracted to more authors by name. Still, you can not beat a good cover or an interesting title to grab attention.

I picked up a few "winners" yesterday and may share next week.

Just look at all those books. A perfect way to spend a lazy afternoon.

You made a great haul at the library, my friend. First of all, the witch book looks so cute! I need a cute book right now because I've been reading way too intense books!

First of all, you will love Tumbleweeds. I've read both Roses and Tumbleweeds by Leila Meachum, and she is such a great writer!!!

You should see the cover of her newest book, Somerset. It is some serious eye candy, too!!! :D

I haven't read THe Firebird yet, but I do have it! Susanna Kearsley is a great writer. I loved The Rose Garden and The Wintersea.

Thanks for supporting Literary Friday! You're the *best*

RJ

I love fun mysteries also! I'll put her on my list to try. I've been reading from my Kindle since I went to Paris. Once I finish a book I started on there I will go back to my hand held books. I must admit to really liking the Kindle for travel!
hugs,
Linda

I haven't read any of these authors. Sometimes I will choose to read a book because of the cover. Love the cover on that cookbook!

I always have so many books checked out from the library I am afraid they are going to make me bring some of them back early so they will have something for other people to check out. :)

Always love a good mystery. Laurie King is a good author. I like the cover of the first book. I may have to get that one.

Hugs,
Laura

Oh gosh, we have some similar tastes in reading; the witch book cover is adorable, I like the Laurie King series (I just read The Game in that series), love the painter Waterhouse, and I see a writer new to me in your list.

Wow, looks like you will have plenty to read over the weekend! Enjoy!

What a collection of good reading. Now that I am retired, I can indulge my passion for reading. While I taught, my reading was college freshmen essays, leaving little time for my own indulgences. And bless Paula Dean. What bad rap she got.

A number of good suggestions for reading. I rarely go to the library since I was gifted an ereader, I like having it tucked in my purse to pull out at appointments.

I have checked out books because of the cover before- usually in the mystery section. Most disappoint though, so I don't do it very often. I'm going to look for Laura Levine though- I love quick reads.

Oh you'll have to let me know how you liked Firebird by S Kearsley, I haven't read it yet but you know how I loved her other two - The Rose Garden and The Winter Sea. Glad you reminded me of it, I must look for it this week at the library. I am almost finished Sarum...
Thanks for your other suggestions.

My goodness. You are one prolific reader. I wish I had enough time in the day to read more. My Kindle has helped, but there are so many other things I'd love to do. I see someone has let you know about Ms. McCullough. She seems to have done it all too.
See this Amazon bio and all her listed fiction.

It appears you and I have some catching up to do with this author. All I remembered was the Thorn Birds.
It was made into a mini-series starring Richard Chamberlain. I already loved him in Dr. Kildare, so it was a blast to see him in this movie too.
I've bookmarked your blog. You are lots of fun.

What wonderful books! I really have to find more time to read -- if I could just push back from the computer...

Yes, Diane, I OFTEN am attracted to a book by the cover art! :-) And I love it when you post close-ups of the books so I can read the titles. Even when I go into a used bookstore, I have to pull out the book whose spine I can't read, so I can see what the title is. I think you and I collect the same kinds of books. :-) BTW, today I did a short post on my Zaph doll - and I mention you and your dolls. You might even know the name of my doll. Have a great day!

My favorite by Colleen McCullough is
The Ladies of Missalonghi. I've read it more than once. I know you would like it...a quick read too. I also really enjoyed the Thorn Birds. I read Paula Deen's autobiography and decided she was a little earthy for my taste but I think she is a FIRST RATE cook. People don't want to eat that way anymore but for those indulgent days...choose Paula Deen! I've seen The Firebird around but have never read it.
