My Thrift Store SPLURGE!

I fell in love with a box…

yes, you heard me right!

I fell in LOVE with this box!

BoxIMG_6232

And I considered it a splurge because I paid $9 for it!

BoxLabelIMG_6233

(But a few days later, I felt a lot better about my purchase when I saw a wooden box for $69 at a store that starts with a K and rhymes with holes.)

I also found this beautiful art that was custom framed ($1.75…which I considered a DEAL!!!) at the same thrift store, Hospice Thrift.

When I find something I love, I don’t think very long about buying it when I know the money is going to a good cause….and I’m in love! heehee!

I wasn’t sure where to display the box and the hinges are rusty, so I made a 'base’ to set it on.

there was a bonus!

KeyIMG_6260

The original KEY was inside the box!

Doesn’t that make it even more special?

I love thrift store goodies and you got some great deals here. I adore that the key was in the box! You'll have to create a pretty ribbon, tassel etc. for your key! Wishes for a great Monday.

Riverside in Agawam, Massachusetts is an old amusement park that is now called Sig Flags New England. I have been there with the kids many times, just an hour from this old house!

A skate box! I remember putting my roller skates in my skate box and lugging it to the skating rink! Wish I still had it.

I love your skate box! What a deal! It would be put to use for storing cords or small items in my house. I never seem to have enough storage. Happy Monday to you!

i am a box nut. wooden ones in particular. doesn't matter - new or antique. love...

I don't know what it is about wooden boxes, but I just love them.

You just inspired me to steal my father's wooden tool box back from my husband. I like the idea of a stack of wooden boxes like people do stacks of vintage suitcases. I have 2 of my dad's wooden boxes now. If I can find one more old wooden box, that would make a collection.

Thanks for giving me a reason to go hunting.

I love boxes (and baskets) too -- such great little storage places! The skate label on yours just makes it more intriguing! Love the painting too -- it's a beauty!

Good Evening Diane, I love this box you have found and was interested to read that it is a skate box. It really looks like a wooden suitcase and as Sarah mentioned, fabulous for storage. If that were me, I would be on the hunt for another two, to stand one on top of the other.
I love searching through charity shops and thrift shops as, like you, I find the most fabulous items.
Enjoy your new skate box.
Best Wishes
Daphne

Well done on your find, I'd be the same and have it on a stand to show it off. To have the original key too is even more of a bargain. Beautiful and yes I'm in love too. xx

Great thrifty purchases, and the box is wonderful ... and even better is the original key. I love old keys.

I think nine dollars is not bad at all. Finding the key is pretty awesome. I paid thirty dollars for a print once at a thrift store but it is hanging right now on my stone fireplace and I love it. xo, olive

You had to break the piggy bank for $9! What a steal for a lovely box. An application of matte polyurethane spray would seal up the rust for you, if you wanted to display it without a base.
