Reverse ‘Tweaking’!

Step into the garage and we’ll do a quick project.

Before…

IMG_6636

and After.

IMG_6637

Oh….sorry….I didn’t take pics of the in between and lucky for you, there’s no audio recording of me struggling with silk leaves and Fall candles splitting in two.

IMG_6638

You’ll just have to use your imagination like I did. Stick the Fall leaves here, there and everywhere in the vine and then place the Fall candle on these spikey things.

HHHmmmmm….you say the leaves were falling every which away in your imagination? And the candle split in 3 or 4 pieces? Funny, that’s what I imagined, too! hahaha!

IMG_6639

So we’re back to square one.

A wire looking candle holder bird cage thingy that looks like it has possibilities….like the possibility that it is going back to the thrift store.

(and no, I haven’t thrown anything away…YET!)

Any ideas?

I put my little ‘extra’ decorations in this basket to use for vignettes and I thought it looked cute enough to enjoy in the lanai.

Hi Miss Lavender Dreams,

Oh, come on....you of all crafty people can figure that birdcage decorating thingy out. Just be still and think.

Having fun with fall decorating? Um, no, all the pretty things are packed, I don't dare take a nap where Mom is working or ZAP - teddy bear in packing box. HELP!!! Giggle.

You make it sound funny but I know how frustrating it is to try to get ideas to become reality and it doesn't pan out but your idea would be lovely! If the leaves were strung on fine wire and twisted throughout the cage would that help?

Hey Diane, Don't get frustrated. Go to a craft store and buy a sunflower candle ring. Tuck it inside. Then when you put another candle inside, pre-drill the holes before setting the candle on the spikes. Use a tooth pick to make the holes for the spikes. Or have your husband cut the spikes off and set a glass candle jar inside. It will be pretty. You'll see.

All your little "sit abouts" are cute. I like tucking them here and there so I get a sneak peek of fall. Have fun!

I'm sure you'll get your creative juices flowing again. Don't get up quite yet. Love all your Halloween treasures waiting to go on display.

haha, I could see just that happening to me. Try hot glueing the leaves on and a flameless candle....too tight a place for real flame , with fake silk leaves...yikes. If things don't work out , you could place the cage in a flower garden...I am like you, I rarely return anything. xoxo,Susie

Stick one of those small green florist blocks into the bottom of the cage and then shove eucalyptus into in so its sticking out of the cage in all directions. I did that with a cage at the lake house and its quite pretty and it smells good.

Melt the candle on the inner bit enough so that it will stick back together. Then wrap it with some burlap. I think that will take care of the split candle part anyway. It's going to be cute whatever you're doing because you always create something lovely!

Oh no! I say get a new candle and make little pilot holes in it with a drill bit. (But don't blame me if something weird happens with the drill bit tries to go through the wax!) As for the leaves, um, maybe hot glue?

Some projects are just like that! And some go smooth as silk too, keep that in mind! How about a little (or fake) pumpkin in there instead of a candle? You can always add glitter (LOL).

I am sure you will figure something out! I am enjoying fall decorating as well!

I've been eyeing the living room and bathroom with a view to adding things for fall and winter. My office is first on the list tho. I spend a lot of time in my office and it badly needs some TLC. I've got ideas...

Why is it that when you have one thing go wrong, it just keeps happening over and over. I'd say give it one more try!

Oh this is my fave time of year. Autumn in all of its glory! Beauty and bounty...yes, apple and pumpkin picking time! Aloha from New York State!

Hi Diane,

Well, I'm no expert, but, why not just buy another candle, maybe a scented one for the season, and tuck a few more vines and faux foliage into the lantern and voila!

Cute post and a great idea! You'll fix it! My sis was pleased that you saved her artwork on your computer. She never felt it had any value until today.

Aww such cute post :)

Sounds exactly like something that would happen to me! Use some hot glue. Those leaves won't go anywhere {that's at least what I tell myself}.

It does have great possibities. Put one of your precious creature creations in there with a nest and then some fall flowers and leaves

I can so relate!!! I like Susie's advice...hot glue the leaves and use a fake candle.

I am going to share with you my granddaughter's thought - it looks like a fairy catcher. She said that about a wire lantern looking thingy that we saw at our Junk Jaunt in NE this past weekend. I think this one could also be a fairy catcher! The ones we saw were chippy painted - some white and some pale greens. What you add to the outside would only add to the idea of it holding a fairy. =) Just a thought!

Not a clue what to do with it but I am sure you will make it up very nicely. I just put up Halloween/fall stuff last weekend.
I was not in the mood but I guess my hubby was because he brought up all the boxes and set them in the middle of my great room..lol

Take a breath and try again! You know you are so talented! Avoid the candles and use your imagination! Then show us!!

Oh, dear.....
I've only put a few pumpkins around the house that we've been collecting for years!

Judith @ Lavender Cottage said...

It if was me, I'd cut those two spikes off and put a tea light on the circle and hot glue the leaves around. Or, you could impale a small pumpkin on the spikes and continue to play with the leaves....Days when a craft doesn't work out are frustrating!
Good luck.

I was thinking the same way as Vee. Melt it back together. And do what you were going to do.
I just love the basket and you are right on...LOL
Good Luck.

Oh no, don't give up on it, it's just too cute! I'm wondering if you found another candle (at a thrift store of course) and melted holes in the bottom? Those spiky things look really thick.

So.... I read your blog title as "Reverse Twerking" and had all sort of visions running through my head of you Diane!

I think it is salvageable, just something different with the candle, perhaps. Or stick an old crow in there and say "done"! Ann

Debbiedoos said...

Oh I think some moss on the bottom and some crows and your faux leaves would do the trick Diane:)

Oh you gave me such a good chuckle over my morning coffee Diane. I’m sure you have no problem putting this together but I am glad you had no audio, why because I know what I sound like when my candles split. Love your birdcage candleholder. That will be pretty anywhere..............

Happy Fall,
Emily

Oh how very frustrating! I had it when a good plan goes astray! As for decorating -- last week I went to the Dollar Store and bought $11 worth of decorations -- I love it!!

Oh, look at that little orange bear hehehe. He's sweet. Yes, I love to decorate for all the holidays. Our blog friends give us many ideas for our homes.

I'm having fun, especially during my favorite season. I am sure you will turn all your goodies into magic. Just make sure you take pics and show us. Since our home's decor is relaxed coastal, I've been mixing up seashells and starfish with pumpkins, acorns, and autumn leaves. My Florida autumn. I'm sure you'd love it.
Always good to stop by, friend.
