November Photo Challenge : Applying Textures

I love special effects! It works so well on a photo that has ‘problems’. Do you ever take a photo and what you saw was not what you captured in your photo? That’s the best time to use textures.

I don’t have any special programs and I only use the free online services, most of the time I stick with Picmonkey and Ipiccy. They are both user friendly.

When we travel to the mountains of NC, our last few miles are on I 26 and this is our first view of the mountains that we love. I took the photo to Picmonkey and used Posterize to give it this neat effect.

PosterizeIMG_7740

I meant to use it as a banner. (all you need to do is remember to resize it to the proper size)

One afternoon at Fletcher park, the sun was making everything dull. (Below is the original and then 4 changes to the same photo.)

BaseIMG_7829

So instead of trying to make it look ‘less dull’, I used Dusk to make it even duskier.

Then I played a little more and made it night time! lol

The Paint effect gave the sky more color.

I also love using Pencil Sketch in Picassa.

I agree that it is great fun to transform your photos with the neat digital tools now available. Gosh, why would anybody want to go back to the days of film? I really like how you transformed the park scene with a handful of different textures. Wonderful!

I love these special effects and will try them more often myself. I particularly like that last picture and you have now inspired me to do something using that picasa feature.

the pencil sketch works really well on that scene! i will every once in a while play with something in picassa. :)

Diane, I love what you did with these shots - really livened them up and made them 'keepers'. I agree, often we take that first look at a photo and think it's yucky, however before hitting delete it's worth playing with it and often it looks so much better you just love it!!!

Great job dear - glad you are enjoying being back in our lovely mountains.

Hugs - Mary

Great job! I love the pencil effect but only the color can really show the beauty of the blue Ridge Mts! I hope you're here now because the color is in full swing finally!

I only correct my photo's, you know, lighter darker, sharper..Etc. I have never completely altered a pic. I have used Picmonkey but never paid much attention to the altering options! Your photos are gorgeous!!! Thank you for the tips!

Editing like this is a lot fun, isn't it? Have you tried Fotor editor? It's a free downloadable program. I've been using it for several weeks now, and I like it very much. I really like your edit #5 and the last photo in your collection. It would be neat to see the night time editing of #5 on a scene like that with snow. With that big star above the mountain I think it would look like a Christmas card. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such a nice comment. :)

Hi Diane, I love what you have altered in your pics. Yes, I love to edit my pics in many ways as well. I use PicMonkey and have a yearly business version and I also use PhotoScape and learning Adobe Illustrator for fabric designs. That one is a real challenge.
I know you are having fun. Love the day to nighttime pics.
Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment.
Have a restful weekend.
Hugs!

I know exactly what you're saying!! You see something that is breathe taking and when you shoot it, then look at it - the shot just doesn't give you that wahhh laaaa that you saw!! Like your idea of photo enhancing!!

Diane, you have inspired me to try different textures to "save" a yucky picture! I'm afraid I have many of those. I always say that my main photography tip is to take SCADS of pictures and maybe something will turn out as I have envisioned it. ;)

Great job on the challenge!

I probably need to do the photo challenges for practice. I'm a carptastic photographer!

I don't usually play with the texture of photos, but you make each photo looks so interesting. I must try a few of the technique.
