Just in case….and a *Humidity update!

We rode our bikes this morning just in case it rains later today.

IMG_1640

The temps are perfect but look at that high humidity!

IMG_1641

Temp 76, Humidity 82%

*UPDATE…the humidity is this high because it’s getting ready to rain! It would be this high anywhere if rain clouds were forming overhead. It’s not normally this humid here in FL…really it’s not! haha!

I wanted to share my stack of library books this week and join Ricki Jill for Literary Friday.

I usually get several books and pick and choose the ones I want to read but so far, so good.

IMG_1642

I read The Queen’s Governess by Karen Harper first and gave it a 10 in my rating system. That’s the highest rating I give a book and I reserve it for only a few! This is definitely an all time favorite. It’s actually the second time I’ve read it. I love historical novels, don’t you?

IMG_1646

Then I read this little mystery, Trouble in the Town Hall by Jeanne M. Dams in just a couple of days. It was fun and a very easy read. I’ll definitely read more by this author.

IMG_1647

Now I’m reading Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall and loving the humor.

And now for something new for me HERE .

Friday 56

*Grab a book, any book.*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader

*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grab you.

From The Queen’s Governess, page 56,

“I saw the chamber I entered was a fairyland of woven tapestries, Turkey carpets on the table and a massive bed draped with red gold silken curtains. It was said that Anne Boleyn had told the king she would not be his mistress but only his wife, yet here was a bed fit for royalty. Yet it was not the furbishings but the lady herself who commanded my interest.”

Join us HERE with your favorite books this week!

Are you reading something good you would recommend?

I have been reading all books by Curtis Sittenfeld, I really liked American Wife and Sisterland, right now I am reading Prep, which is not nearly as good.

Hi Diane
I loaded my ereader before we left home with a number of the Alex Cross series by James Patterson.
It looks like rain here too, but we managed to get our walk in first this morning. Hubby plans to watch the Olympic hockey game at noon and I'm going to write an article for my newspaper column.

Ha - I'm presently reading "Wildfire" by Zane Grey. It's about the capture and taming of a wild stallion. I love horses and it's such an easy read, with a little romance thrown in.

yeah, 82% is a bit much! at about 35% here in texas, i start to sweat. :)of course, that's usually mixed with higher temps.

Oh I love to read but lately I have not had the time. I have a pile of books that I brought home from my Moms when we cleaned out her house and then I pick up books at our local thrift store for a 25 cents and they are all there waiting for me. I think I shall pick up one and start reading today, Thank you for the inspiration!!

Great excerpt! And I loved your stack of books...not to mention that lavender blog header!

Here's MY FRIDAY POST

Cranberry Morning said...

I do like historical novels if the author has a reputation of being true to the historical record. How fun to be riding bike! You could ride through 2 feet of snow up here! lol

I just finished a fun, quick read by Anita Shreve-Change in Altitude. It was set in Africa and quite good.

Don't envy you that humidity-that is what a hot summer day is like here in Wisconsin by the water. As bad as Florida! Right now I am looking forward to that! xo Diana

I have been reading mostly cookbooks lately. Your collection of books looks great.

Oo your temps looks nice, but lots of humidity huh? I'm reading Snow Falling on Cedars now…I've never read it, have you?

You do have the air conditioner running...right?

Your stack of books looks enticing. I need to make a trip to the library. I have two that are overdue. The librarians always say, "Thank you for supporting the library." when I pay my fine. :)

Happy Friday!

While I envy your book choices, I really envy your weather. We have another day off school today because we have a blizzard. Where, oh where, is Spring? Happy reading!

Art and Sand said...

I love historical fiction so I will look for The Queen's Governess.

I am looking for a bunny pattern to no avail. Where did you get the bunny pattern you used?

Sandra Nachlinger said...

I like your book selections. THE QUEEN'S GOVERNESS sounds like one I'd enjoy, and the author's description in your Friday56 selection makes me want to read more.
Here's the link to my Friday post: CAKE.
PS: I lived in South Florida for many years, and wintertime was my favorite season. (Summer -- not so much.)

I have had Whistling Past the Graveyard on my TBR list forEVER now….and I really, really want to read it. I can't wait to see what you think about it.

I don't visit the library again until Tuesday. I missed last week due to a snow day and this Tuesday for Winter Break. I'll be happy to get back into a routine!

Is it raining there yet? We had tons of rain last night, but there isn a cloud in the sky today.

Oh that humidity would do me in. Ackkk... It's raining here, too, believe it or not. I hardly do. What a mess it's making.

You're very good at making curiosity rise. I do like good historical fiction, but usually refer to it as
"hysterical" fiction. I may have to take a closer look.

IT was hot and humid here today and no rain. It felt like summer. I can't complain because everywhere else is snowy but I would like a few more weeks of spring before we are all hot and stinky again!

Whistling Past the Graveyard has the best title! I need to put that on my list to read!

All of those books sound really good. Currently I am not reading a specific book. As far as the weather, our humidity is high here also. Last night we actually had some winds and thunderstorms. Odd weather for February in Alabama... :)

fredamans said...

Based on that description, sounds like my kinda place! :-)

Happy weekend!

Kim@Snug Harbor said...

I'm sorry dear friend but I cannot sympathize with your high humidity when it's accompanied by 76 degrees. It's 22 here now with 50 mph winds. And I was happy yesterday (I thought) when it was 36 and I opened my bedroom window a crack. LOL! Enjoy your weekend sweetie! Any more bunnies on their way?

I'm reading a new to me author, Jeff Abbott. I read the first book in his Sam Capra series and now I'm on book two, The Last Minute. Like it a lot! I've got the The Queen's Governess on my TBR list.
hugs to you!

great weather here as well, warm and a little rain this morning. Your books look great! Have not read any of those! Just finished Judith Henry Walls "Handsome Women". It was fantastic, spanned several eras and three wars. Loved it. Have a great day!

ooh that first book sounds amazing!!!
I will definitely read that.
thanks for the recommendations.

Hi Diane, it is 74 here right now as well but not humid. I am glad its dry cause we have one big mess to clean. I have been away from blogging because an ice storm dropped trees on our house and property like mad and we are sort of digging out still. I am reading an old Grisham book right now. I cannot go to sleep without reading. xo, olive

"The Queen's Governess" goes on my reading list. A favorite book is "The Namesake," by Jhumpa Lahiri. Page 56..."He doesn't want to wear the new clothes his mother has bought him from Sears, hanging on a knob of his dresser, or carry his Charlie Brown lunch box..."
What a fun way to find new books.

Thanks for sharing Diane.
I have added these to my list.
I returned my latest favorite so I do not have the page to quote from but what a fun way to "judge" a book!
Enjoy your day,
