Let’s go Trackin’!

Even on the days we’re hiking and don’t see a lot of wildlife, we see HUNDREDS of tracks.

Some we’ve identified and others we haven’t.

I mean, this one is a feline but what exactly? Possibly a bob cat.

And the same goes with the canines. Coyotes, foxes all live in the forest.

This one was a mystery for awhile

A three toed sloth perhaps? Or a flock of wild turkeys that are very common in our area! lol

I did get a photo of a beautiful sight but only by accident. I stopped to take this photo and hubby said, maybe some deer will run across the road…CLICK! (I cropped this one photo to give you a closer look at what we saw!)

They did and I DID!

We just stood there for a few minutes in shock!

I LIKE this post! Showing us the tracks you saw is really interesting! And the deer were a real bonus! I like how you did the framing.

How cool! Identifying tracks is fun. There are books out there on that. Have any?

What fun Diane! I'm so glad you had that camera ready. I saw 4 deer in our alfalfa field a couple nights ago. It was such a relief. I'm always worried about them after the fall hunting season. Also enjoyed the wildlife tracks!!

You can come get the bunny in my yard that is eating my flowers. The tracks were very cool.

I love to travel up a wash here in the desert and see the tracks. I believe I once saw mountain lion ones! I've seen squirrel tracks, raccoon tracks, even mouse tracks. And roadrunners, crows, and even an egret.

I too, love to come across wildlife while hiking in the woods. Wow, you have evidence of lots of wildlife. I see deer, lots of turkeys, woodchucks, skunks, opossum, owls etc and one day I was extra lucky-- a bald eagle was circling way above my house! No camera handy! :(

What a beautiful place to visit. My dream is to find identifiable tracks while hiking with the grandkids. So far we have only found some creepy slithering in a sandy area near the driveway - a garden snake - ewwww! My preference is for the mammals you have found!

Diane, I love your hiking pictures. I know this is kind of crazy...but hey that's me... once going to and from St. Louis...I count 16 deer, 9 life ones and 7 dead ones. I like the life ones better. Blessings for a great day, xoxo,Susie

Your photos are always so lovely.

What a fun sighting.

We saw a few deer scampering through the woods on a visit to family on Easter. But they don't think the deer are so cute because they come into the yard and eat up everything.

Some interesting animal tracks you've come across. I don't know as I'd want to see a bobcat though. Have a great week ahead Diane.

Such great pictures. Never have taken pictures of tracks of any kind. We have deer, bobcats, racoons and many other critters right in our area. Wonder if my camera can take really clear close ups. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing circumstance with the deer! One day I looked out an upstairs bedroom window and saw a bobcat come out of the woods and settle himself down for a nice nap on the sandy patch in front of the car! I called a wildlife officer and asked if that was unusual behavior for a bobcat. He said, "They were here before you were," and laughed. I tried taking a picture but only got a fuzzy one through the window screen. That's as close as I wanted to get!

Isn't is a sight to come across a deer? They are amazing animals. How nice that you know many of the animal tracks and who they belong to. You must be an experienced hiker. Love your pictures today, Diane.

How exciting for you Diane!
I'm amazed at the wildlife you mentioned - how big are the Bobcats?
I think I would feel a little nervous in case one pounced on me!!!

It's such fun deciphering the prints, isn't it? We bought a wildlife tracks handbook and I have it with me when I go out hiking so I can figure out who's hiking with me LOL!

Some of those animal foot prints look a bit scarey to me - they are so large!
A lovely sight seeing those deer and to capture them on your camera is even more amazing!
Thanks Diane for appreciating my artwork enough to pin so many pieces on your Pinterest boards.
Enjoy your adventures!

Suzy

It is always exciting to see wildlife when your are out and about. And then to capture their image, that just makes your walk even better.

I am so unobservant. I would never have seen all those tracks. It is beautiful there!

I hike in Laguna Canyon and coming face to face with a deer or a bobcat is always fun. Not so much fun are snakes and mountain lions.
The Halpata Tastanaki Preserve looks beautiful. You are so lucky to have access!
Cheers!
