‘Dessert’ No Sugar needed!

I don’t eat sugar. I can’t eat sugar.

It makes me feel bad (as in ILL!)

And I don’t eat artificial sweeteners like Splenda anymore either. I use Truvia which is a better alternative but I use it in moderation, too.

Anyway!!!

I was so hungry for something good that I made an old stand by, Peach Fried Pies.

You can use your favorite biscuit recipe. Don’t over work your dough or it will be tough.

I make buttermilk biscuits and made a half recipe of dough.

1 cup flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, dash of salt with about 1/3 cup of Crisco cut in. Then add enough buttermilk to get a soft dough. Divide into 5 balls. Roll out 4 of the balls in 4 circles to put your fruit mixture inside.

For the fruit mixture, I sliced a ripe peach into a glass bowl, added a little water and microwaved for about a minute. (use a fork to check for tenderness). Add a tablespoon of flour, one package of Truvia, shake shake shake the cinnamon and stir to thicken.

Spoon the fruit onto each circle of dough, fold over and pinch the edges together. Fry in Crisco at medium to medium high in a large skillet.

OH MY! They were GOOD!

And what did I do with the 5th ball of dough? I made strips of fried dough to sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar for hubby of course! I’m Southern and love my fried pies. He’s not…and not so much! haha!

I have never heard of fried pies but they sure look good!!

they look delicious-my husband would love these-for a healthier truvia-which is not real either-like splenda in a way-use the pure herb stevia with no additives in liquid or powder form, or a bit of honey or a bit of agave-hubby is diabetic so I mix up the sweeteners-truvia has been drasticly altered and is no longer pure stevia like their commercials want you to believe.

I wanted to share this link about truvia http://www.dietitiancassie.com/the-truth-on-truvia/ I think it is acutally worse than splenda chemically speaking

I'm not a fan of fried pies but give me a regular peach pie with ice cream and I'm in heaven. It's all what you grew up with and where. I'm a midwest gal originally and we didn't fry things when I was growing up and I don't fry things either....strange isn't it.

Does sound wonderful!!
We eat a lot of apple fried pies and apple cinnamon sticks. Ohhh, you've made me hungry - will be thinking about them all day long!

I have never had fried pies! Yours looks good. Nothing better than a southern peach.

Oh yum. I am a truvia user too, but I have not baked with it. Nor do I fry foods. I know. Boring. Your little peach pies looks so good. And peaches are usually so sweet they don't need much sweetening. Have a fabulous week.

Sugar is such an addiction and it makes me feel tired. I would love to give it up or even cut back but probably won't. Your pies look amazing. The best thing about peaches when they are good and ripe is that you don't have to add sugar. :)

Looks delish! I have never had a fried pie but looks really tasty. Peaches are so good, the season is ending here for them and it makes me a little sad. Enjoy your desserts!

This is all new to me and I'd better give it a try!

Oh my goodness, I have never heard of fried pies - I'm a Jersey Girl, Yankee, Northerner.

You southern girl, you sure love your fryin'.

As for me - you can take the girl out of New Jersey but you can't take the NJ out of the girl. (o:

Miss Lavender Dreams,

It's not easy living with Mom....talk about "set in your ways", "stubborn", and the all time classic "I don't like that", even though she has never tried eating, using, or any thing else . Oh, my life here is way beyond interesting.

Oh my, that does sound delicious. I've never had a deep fried pie, tend to stay away from anything fried because of the calories.

Fried pies...yummo!! I love my mom's friend apple pies. She uses apples from her trees that she dries then rehydrates, adds spices and then fries them up! My favorite dessert....and fried dough! We southerners know how to eat!!

Hi Diane,
Me too.... Love sweets... hate sugar! I have had to completely cut it out. I too use Truvia on a limited basis. I do on occasion splurge, but I can always tell that I don't feel good after. :(

This recipe looks really good. I love pie, fired would be even better. :)

Hi Diane, I've never had a fried pie, other than those from McDonald's, but those don't appear to be healthy at all. Yours looks awesome! Thanks for sharing your recipe, Diane.

That peach dish sounds wonderful, but I am avoiding both sugar and flour. I will store it in my memory for a time when I decide to break with my new regimen for a day.

Fried pies are new to me and I've never seen a scone turned into one before now. I'm sure I'd like them though. If I could give up sugar it would be so much healthier but I try to use as little as possible and can't imagine being ill from eating it.
Thank you for linking to Mosaic Monday Diane.

I LOVE fried pies. There is a farmer's market about an hour from home that sells friend pies. I don't visit them often ... usually make it an outing with a friend, stopping for bar-b-cue along the way! You are making my mouth water and peach anything is a favorite! Happy Mosaic Monday!

Peach Fried Pies....I've never heard of that before, Diane. They look scrumptious. I can't eat too much sugar either. Peaches are a good natural substitute for sugar. These look yummy.

Have a great week ahead, Diane.

Oh- How I love fried pies! Nothing in the world like them...well....maybe salted peanuts in RC Cola (lol)-true Southern treat!

I am copying down your dough recipe because it sounds like a simple one that makes just the right amount.

Now I am hungry for ripe peaches. The ones we have here right now are awful-hard as a rock. Nothing like a good, ripe peach. But you know, I can't STAND canned peaches! xo Diana

I never heard of fried pies, but they look wonderful. We don't do sugar any more either. My mom used to make strips like that from leftover pie crust (baked pies) and I did that for my kids too.
