A Year of Hikes!

We celebrated ‘one year of Florida hiking’ by going to Halpata Tastanaki Preserve this weekend.

In one year we made 48 hikes averaging around an hour and a half for each hike. It’s been an adventure…times 48!!!

We were so pleased that they had gotten in there with bush hogs and mowers to take down the tall grass on the trails.

There were so many animal tracks to try to identify.

(these are wild turkey tracks)

And with the dryer Fall season, the plants, grasses and trees had some pretty colors. There were even several flowers blooming.

I had all kinds of comments on my post yesterday about our nice weather. The cold temps and bad weather did not reach this far South YET and it was 82 degrees on Sunday afternoon when we hiked.

We’re expecting freezing temps Wednesday morning though. I’ll let you know! lol

and Tweak it Tuesday!

I hope you find new things to love about where you live, too. And as I’ve said before,

find the beauty that surrounds you

and enjoy it!

At the moment it is 3 degrees. The weather people keep saying that it will warm up--28 the high today. You'd be surprised at just how warm that will feel. Real toasty. Florida is a beautiful state. I have said this before, I know, but your walks have been amazing. I am glad that I have been able to follow along.

Diane, You and your husband have taken a hike about every week of the year. That is great. I wish I could do that. I am doing well to get a walk a month now. Although I walk around out here lots. It's not like a real walk or hike. Blessings for a fun week. xoxo,Susie

Hiking is so much fun and great exercise. I need to get back to it. I love living here in Athens, GA as I am finding so many wonderful parks and interesting places to visit.

such a beautiful area!! That long grass makes me think of the big snakes they have found living in Florida, you don't live near those big nasties do you,

Wow! Good for you Diane!! That is a lot of hikes for one year, and you must feel great to have accomplished that. I like your notation at the end to "find the beauty that surrounds you and enjoy it". It's so true. Not everyone has a spectacular area to live in, but if we all look (even in towns/cities) there are little pockets of nature and beauty that we can enjoy. Have a great day! Oh yes ... what's the goal for next year?! Wendy x

My husband would love this habit! I just bought a pedometer to motivate me to start walking more...maybe all I really need is a hiking buddy!

I hope that you freeze your happy southern butt off, lol! :)
And then do a happy post about it :)

I envy you all those hikes! My hubby has foot problems so we don't do much walking. It has lightly snowed here already. I do not like the cold but I love the miracle of snow. The high tomorrow here in Pa. will be 23! Brrr. I like your Sunday temp of 82! It is a rainy day today. Good for blogging. : )

Great job on all that hiking - I am so jealous. I can't wait to get back out on some trails. xo

You have some beautiful trails to walk on there. I did get out around the yard today to observe nature before the snow came this afternoon. It's raining now. :)

Amen- Find the beauty that surrounds you and enjoy it. I sure wish I could embrace snow and sleet and enjoy it. I do relish the summers here though. Great pics, as you always have here. xo Diana

It is wonderful that you have so many places around there to hike.

Congrats on the hikes! Florida is SO great for finding these wonderful places. Try to do what you can to get those temps back up for the first of the month will you please ;)). FT Myers still looked pretty good when I checked this morning. It is very chilly here in Oregon. Nothing like back east of course, but cold on these bones and toes that are now used to Florida.
