A Good day to see Manatees!

And a great day to visit Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. Even the park ranger said there were more manatees near the observation deck than usual.

It was a beautiful day in the mid 70s and they were giving us all a show.

manaIMG_1768

All of those huge dark spots in the water are manatees! (and one was almost white!)

manaIMG_1770

I love seeing the flamingos and swans but the manatees really ‘steal the show’! (or at least until you get to the flamingos…OH MY!)

Last Spring we even saw a Mama with a baby swimming alongside her. So hubby stopped at the gift shop and bought me a new toy.

Well, after all…it was my birthday!

Happy birthday, Diane! What a fun way to spend the day. I have never seen manatees in real life before, but my students read about them every year in our textbook. They certainly are unusual looking! And those flamingos look nothing like the ones my neighbor sticks in her yard each year... :-)
Have a wonderful day, my friend!

How fun to see such interesting wildlife at your state park. Very cute reminder of the day from hubby.

Of course we know what manatees are, but actually see them or even to know someone who has---impressive. The flamingos are so brilliant, nearly blinding. I'd say that you had a very good day.

What a lovely day - and such cute stuffed manatees - a good birthday for sure.

The flamingos still amaze me - to think that you can see them just anytime you want almost boggles my mind.

I'm glad you had such a fun day my friend.

Diane, I do love manatees. What a treat to see them "in the wild"! When the children were young, we had yearly passes to the aquarium. We would go almost every week and the manatees were one of their favorites. My third daughter had a little stuffed one that she named "Barbara". :-)

aren't they the most gentle looking creatures, your photos are amazing, when I was in grade 6 I did a project on the Manatee's, I was fascinated with them even all those yeas ago and for a 11 year old in Northern Canada they were the most exotic creature,

The other day hubby was fishing by the pier when another fisherman thought he had a fish when in fact it was a manatee. He cut the line. Made me sad to think the poor thing has a hook in his mouth :(.

Luckyyou to see manatees, I've seen flamingoes and they are quite spectacular, but manatees are something else.

Loved seeing your photos of the manatees Diane. They are supposed to swim in the canal behind our rental in February to give birth during this time so I hope I get some photos.
Thank you for linking to Mosaic Monday.

I love manatees! I have a Beanie Baby Manatee that I've had for years and years. When I had a Girl Scout troop we used some of our cookie money to 'adopt' a manatee and we learned all about them. so exciting to see them that close up! (see another sister thing)

I would love to see them in the wild. We do have them at the Columbus Zoo. They are fun to watch. Our exhibit takes you on their level with a glass tank. I think they send the injured there to later go back in the wild. Not sure, I may be wrong. I like how they feed them lettuce. They are amazng. Stay warm down there. We are getting lots of snow.

Gorgeous place -- Manatees are just wonderful, but they sure are hard to get pictures of ; you did much better than I did recently (over at 'our' Manatee Park.

We got some hard rain over here this morning. But now the sun is shining! Yay for Florida!
