Library Finds!

My library has books for sale in the lobby and I always spend some time browsing the shelves.

They also have bins of FREE magazines!

Imagine my surprise when I found these Art magazines. (I only chose 4 to take and left about 30 for others to have.)

I’m not an artist but I have several talented artists in my family. (some are even famous!)

IMG_2487

It would be fun to ‘dabble’ in paints or even get my colored pencils out and draw.

IMG_2481

I love this one!

How about fashions for Florida?

IMG_2483

Or the ‘latest styles’?

I know they would be great to cut for journals and cards but I don’t think I have the heart to cut the books. Would you?

I’m joining the Vintage Inspiration Link party HERE,

and Roses of Inspiration.

Those magazines are great, especially the fashion one. And I recognize each outfit, hat, etc from my childhood! So fun to see, Are you going to color them?

Those are great books! I've painted some in my day but I am no artist! LOL!
So who are those famous artists in your family and show us some of their works? I'm sure they would appreciate the free publicity and you've got our curiosity up now. Although I am not an art connoisseur.
I liked the fashion ones. They seem like they might be easier to emulate! LOL! I understand about your not wanting to cut them up....it would be hard. Great vintage finds!

What glorious finds - I love the ocean and seagull paintings - makes me want to get out my paints and pencils - but first have to finish up four summer sets of dolls clothes - shorts and sleeveless blouses.

I love love love your blog - you just never know what will show up here - I find it so enjoyable to open your blog and find wondrous treasures about what you have been up to. Have a grand week my friend.

Great finds, Diane! I love the fashion books. I have one from Dover that is Fashions of the 30s. it's so much fun to look through. The last thing I need to do, however, is go to a library sale. LOL

What great graphics. Yes, I'd cut them and use them in journals. :-)

Wow-- great finds! I probably wouldn't want to cut them up unless there was damage to the book (you could spill coffee on a corner and call it damaged-- hardee har...). Nowadays you could scan and print.

I was amazed to find free magazines and books when I was visiting Acton Library, Connecticut, too! But books are so heavy to take over the Atlantic.

Hi Diane, what a great selection of magazines. Love the art issues. I would find it very hard to cut them up too, but I might print some graphics to cut for cards etc.
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice evening my friend.

Wow, you did have some lucky finds! I love old magazines, especially the fashion ones. More and more I realize I was born in the wrong century! The clothes of days gone by are what I love. Not hoop skirts, though. Those are just cruel!
Hope you have a good evening! Send some sunshine and warm weather our way, please!
Hugs,
Deb

Fabulous finds Diane!

A friend gave me a beautiful photography book about Cowboys. She got it at a garage sale for a dollar, but the pictures were fabulous and the hardcover book was worth much, much more than that. It was hard for me to cut out the pics, but I did so and created a very large collage on a countertop in our basement and then used that acrylic stuff that you pour (forget the name) and it's now a durable countertop with first rate pics. I think I got more than 500 pictures out of that book!

I may have squealed {softly} when I saw the fashion magazine - how fun, Diane! Yes, they would be perfect for journals or crafting, but I am like you... I don't know if I could cut them up either.

Thanks for sharing at ROI. Enjoy your Wednesday. Hugs!

These are so much fun and would be perfect for altered art projects. I would just make copies, then craft away guilt free. I love the fashion graphics. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party Diane.

I so agree, Diane. I have bought books to use in my projects, and then I didn't have the courage to cut up the book. Love the vintage look!

We like to browse through the Friends of the Library store right as you go into our library too. After our renovations last summer we donated lots of books and magazines and videos, and all money goes towards the purchase of new items for the library.
