Oh my! A Baby tortoise!

We’ve seen some huge Gopher Tortoises here in Florida.

Imagine our surprise to come across a baby on the Halpata Tastanaki Preserve trail last month.

Hubby had on his big size 12 hiking boots and almost stepped on him. Look how he tucked up in his shell.

We took a few photos and placed him on the other side of the trail in a safe place.

What fun to get this close to nature!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE.

Hello Diane, what a cute baby turtle. I believe the Gopher Tortoise was having trouble in Florida, possible habitat loss? Great find and photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!

Oh, how sweet! I used to have a pet tortoise (Ben) when I was a child. I cried so much when Ben died.

Sweet little guy. I hope he gets to where he needs to be. He must have been afraid of those big shoes.

I hope you're feeling much better now! I am way behind on blogging lately, it's just been so busy around here, but I did read about your fall and I was glad to read that nothing was broken! Take care of yourself and have a nice Sunday!

Oh- How cute is that! When our kids were little they picked a HUGE snapping turtle up and put him in our swimming pool when we lived in FL. Why they didn't lose an arm is beyond me. xo Diana

How wonderful a find. I have a Box Turtle that I found as a hatchling. In 34 years on this land, the only one found as many are taken by Raccoon's when so little. One day Brooke shall be set free, but at going on about 7, she is still considered their fodder.
