Summer Fun “Board Games”

I’ve always loved playing board games. I was young when I had my four boys and I played games with them. (I even learned to play basketball when they got older! lol)

So I was happy to find this ‘old’ board game at the thrift store.

“Park and Shop”

I was just a teensy bit disappointed when I got home and found out it was a reproduction.

But that meant it was nice and clean (and the components were still in sealed packages).

Do you need money to play?

Maybe we can start saving in this old money bank.

I had a puppy dog bank when I was little.

Did you have a piggy bank, too?

I've never heard of that game before. Fun that you found one that looks so vintage. Our kids favourite was "Mouse Trap" and it was my hubby's when he was a boy so it's been around a very long time! They also loved his vintage "Astro Launch" game a pre-cursor to "Trouble", another favourite. We still have the games stored in the attic at our son's. Have a great day Diane.

What a cute board game. I don't remember this one. I did have a piggy bank as a kid! Now I have banks for both the grands I drop coins in all the time.

They make reproduction board games? Interesting!

This is a new game to me. I have hung on to a few that we played when my children were young - Hi Ho Cherrio, Uncle Wigley and a few more.

I have not played a board game in ages. You have inspired me to get one out and invite the neighbors over. Love your game! Even if it is not vintage, the graphics are great!

I was remarking to myself, my what good shape that game board is in. None the less, you will still enjoy the vintageness of it. A nice way to spend time, playing board games.

What great finds Diane. I use to love playing Monopoly, Life and when I was a bit younger Chutes and Ladders. Now my daughter wants us to play with her and her boyfriend but the board games they like to play are way too complicated for us....Hee, hee, hee. Love the cute little bank. I did have one when when I was growing up. It was a traditional Mexican clay piggy bank. I remember it didn't have a stopper at the bottom like most banks have. When it was full, the only way to take the money out was to break it :-) Thanks for sharing my friend.

Hugs,
❤️Ana

I love board games, too, Diane. When we took Lulu with us last week I took along Sequence (which we love) and Scrabble and some cards. Games are so good for kids (and us, too).

I do remember that game but kind of forgot about it. xo Diana

I absolutely love the graphics on vintage board games. We love unplugging when at the lake with board games and card games. Such fun memories.

We played lots of board games when I was a kid. Still have some of mine. My daughter likes to play them too. Love the Park and Shop! Cute graphics! Cutie kitty bank too. I had a couple different piggy backs-- a pig for one.

You had four boys? I don't remember that particular one, but I played a lot of board games with our four (one girl). Monopoly is still a favorite when we have family gatherings ... My grown grandkids play a cutthroat version!

Thank you so much for the lovely card that you sent me! {{{hugs}}}

That's a new game to me. I guess vintage looking is really popular for them to reproduce it. Monopoly and Scrabble were the games I played, and I just enjoyed a Scrabble game with my parents this past weekend.

That game looks adorable! What a find! I never had a piggy bank but growing up the occasional nickel was about the most money we kids had. I like life better nowadays :)

Reproduction or not, it's still such a sweet find. I found a piggy bank at a flea market a few months ago that's almost identical to one I had as a child...of course, it had to come home with me. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party.

What a great find. :-)
I love board games too. My boys love them as well. We love to play as a family and with guests.

I had a velvet bunny bank. :-) Yes, I still have my bank and the boys love it when I bring it out for them to see.

Hi Diane! You find the best stuff on your thrift shop hunts! I've never heard of this game before, but I bet it's fun. I like playing board games. Your little bank is very sweet too. When I was little I had a ceramic bank that looked like a baby girl posed as though she was crawling. She had on pink pajamas. I wish I still had her...I wish I still had lots of the stuff I loved when I was a kid! Have a happy day sweetie! xo

Oh Diane, how adorable! And how wonderful to have found this old game board :) Have fun, my friend. If we lived close to one another I would be tempted to come over for a game :)

Thanks for taking the time to link up with Roses of Inspiration. Hugs!

Diane, what an adorable game! But in NJ they play the real version in the mall parking lot and let me tell you that there are NO rules. It's every man for himself. And there is a lot of honking! :-)

Hi Diane! Well, even it's a reproduction, it looks so sweet. Looks like it might have been from the 40s? Thanks for popping in and I would love for you to post some doll clothes next Wednesday! I have to admit, I just love making doll clothes!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

What great fun - love the game. I did have a piggy bank but never had any money to put into it. I was young when our kids were born too and we all loved to play games. Recently I found a reproduction, round, metal Chinese Checkers game - the boys will have fun with that.

Diane, Love that little bank. My girls and I played every board game ever. Our all time favorite was scrabble. I miss those fun days with my little sweethearts. Hope you enjoyed your time with your boys too. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

I love this - even if it is a reproduction! I think I might lose at this game, though, because there is no way I can 'shop quickly'! I had a piggy bank that you had to break to get the coins out. I never did break it because I found out you could get the coins out by sliding a butter knife inside the slot :) xo Karen

Just had my young niece spend the night and we played cards, and board games "Sorry!" and "Chutes and Ladders!" Chutes and Ladders is for age 6 but we didn't care at all!

I never heard of Park and Shop. Sorry yours is a reproduction, but it doesn't matter, it is neat anyway!

I came over via Sheila at Note Songs and actually gasped when I saw you found a "Park and Shop" game. It brought back so many very fond memories for me! Although I have never been a huge fan of many board games(I hated everybody's favorite, Monopoly!), I played "Park and Shop" a lot in the early 1960s and dearly LOVED it! I credit my great organizational skills as an adult to all the hours and hours I played this game as a kid because in order to win, you had to have a highly strategic and organized plan. The object was to be the first player to leave home in your car, find a parking lot convenient to the shopping stops you had to make(determined by the cards you drew at the start of the game), efficiently and quickly run all your shopping errands on foot, return to the parking lot to retrieve your car, and drive home. Even now, 50+ years later, when I have multiple errands to run, I first organize them in my head before I leave home, just like I did when I played "Park and Shop!"

For old time's sake, I've looked for this game multiple times on eBay but it is astounding what the vintage games cost, even the beat up ones with missing pieces! Glad to know there are reproductions available.
