You’re invited to a Piano Recital!

Did you take piano lessons when you were growing up? I did and I remember being very nervous at my recitals. I think I even have an old photo of myself dressed for a recital that I might sneak in at the end of this post.

Grace is modeling her new recital dress.

JoAnn and I are continuing our summer sewing challenge. She sent me this fabric and we both made something with it this week. Her blog is HERE. I can’t wait to see what she’s made!

I had the idea to make a collar and sash and drew out a pattern for the collar.

And then at the last minute I thought about ‘sheet music’ and said something to my hubby. In a matter of a few minutes, he had found an image and printed it out for me. (I know, I am spoiled!)

The clear glass piano box was mine as a child and I managed to hang on to it all these years.

And yes, this is me at 9 years old.

Grace is just precious, and her dress is even more so! I always loved Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. I just imagine Grace plays beautifully.
I was a band person and played the clarinet, I remember feeling so nervous over lessons-my Teacher was quite non-nonsense fellow. You are a doll too, your dress and hair are so pretty. I even like the mop, it is reminiscent of a such a sweet time in life:)
Have a Happy Day!
Hugs to you sweet friend,
Jemma

Diane, I love that dress. The doll with you glass piano and standing on your piano is so adorable. Your husband is a sweetheart to you. I like that. :):) You look older than nine in that long dress. Love your long hair. Hey, our mothers always leaned the mops and brooms at the back door, they didn't want those things in the house till they were needed. :):) Blessings, xoxo,Susie

Hi Diane, oh I love this dress on beautiful Grace. She is just a precious doll and I love the fabric you used to create her dress. The collar and sash are perfect. You are so talented!! Grace looks so pretty standing on your piano along with the gorgeous glass piano box.
Yes, I took piano from 4 years old to 16. I hated to practice but so glad now I did. Love your darling pic. Such a charming setting and the hanging mop to dry brings back memories too. Love it.
Have a special day my friend.
Hugs, cm

Nine?! Wow, you look about fifteen! Grace's dress is sweet. I'm sure she will do well at her recital!

Oh Gracie is so darling in her new recital dress. I love what you did with the fabric. My dolls are still in casual mode, maybe they need some "dress up" clothes too.

I took piano lessons and have a picture of myself at the piano at a recital - I think I was 16. I can still hear my teacher "almost silently" counting the time as I played my piece - that made me more nervous than actually having to sit there and play in front of the audience.

That dress is adorable :) Yes I took lessons when I was young, didn't last too long though, we had a lot of kids in our neighborhood and I just couldn't stand to be inside practicing when I could hear them outside having a good time.

This is just adorable! (And so is the picture of you.) I would love to have some of that fabric to make something for ME! Now I have to hop on over to the other blog to see what your friend made.

Love the mop and am glad that you didn't photoshop it out. Your dolly is so sweet in her new dress. You keep her wardrobe in tip~top shape.

Diane, just adorable. I did take piano lessons as a child, all the way up until 18. Then after I was married, I didn't play much and kind of lost my touch. So I took lessons again at 50 to get myself back on track. I just like playing for myself.

Fun post! Love all the pictures. You haven't changed much! I took piano lessons for a short time-- got bored. I memorized the songs easy enough that I never learned to read music. Sometimes I wish I had stuck with it. Oh well.

Hi Diane. Your doll is lovely and your photo is a treasure. You are a beauty. No, I never had piano lessons, but I purchased a really nice keyboard and gave it to my daughter, so that she could have her daughters take lessons. They have just started and I feel so good that I can be a part of it:) When you live so far away, you have to find ways to be a part of their lives . . . even when you can't be there.
This was a wonderful post, I truly enjoyed my visit.
Connie :)
P.S. I'm having a Give-A-Way . . . come on over:)

What a charming dress you made for your doll. It is perfect, and she looks so lovely atop your piano. The sheet music is a darling touch. I remember being very nervous at my piano recitals, too!
I agree with the other commenters -- you look much older than 9 in that picture! Maybe it is the long dress? Anyway, love the mop!

Your doll is so cute, Diane, and her dress with the music notes is adorable. Yes, I took piano lessons when I was younger, but I never stuck with it. I so wish I had because I can only play two songs on the piano today.

You look so pretty in this picture standing next to your house. I was a bit nervous before my piano lessons too.

love, ~Sheri

You and JoAnn are having a lot of fun with your dolls and doll clothes. Yes, I took piano for many years, and later taught lessons. I never did enjoy playing in public that much - too nervous and I usually botched something.

Cheryl @ TFD said...

The dress is so pretty on Grace. The pretty little 9 year old has on a pretty dress, too! I took just enough piano lessons to play well enough to amuse myself. I hated the recitals, I was a nervous wreck! lol! Oh, I was so shy back then and hated to be in front of people. Somehow I got through it.

Love Grace and her beautiful recital dress....I remember my own recitals. Wearing a pretty new dress and wanting to look just right. Feeling nervous, mostly because we had to announce our name and the pieces we were playing on the piano! I never liked speaking in public! Your photo is so pretty! Love your hair and the dress....
