Quick and easy solutions for Pesky Problems and a WINNER!

I love to decorate but one of the challenges I have is art framed with glass fronts.

DSCN0564

I love them of course but when you put objects in front of them, you get a reflection of yourself unless even when you hold the camera at an angle.

So here’s my ‘quick and easy’ solution.

DSCN0566

I draped a cloth napkin over the picture and put clothespins on the sides to hold it. I know I could do better by decorating my clothespins but this is quick and I don’t think most people even notice it.

You can see I have 2 napkins up there right now for dollie backgrounds.

Something else I’ve been doing for years, is making pillow covers for my throw pillows.

But lately, I’ve made that simpler (and easier to rip out later if you want to ). I just sewed the sides (not the bottom) and slipped it over the pillow.

I did it in the Fall too.

I made a kind of envelope over my throw pillow using a pretty cloth linen. I sewed the sides and didn’t worry about the back covering the whole pillow.

And one year, I draped plaid napkins on top of some pillows just for the ‘look’ of plaid. The old post is HERE.

Do you take shortcuts like this in your decorating? (or am I the only lazy decorator? lol)

And the WINNER of the tea cup coasters is…

Stacey from Poofing the Pillows!

She is a very energetic blogger right now hosting ‘Christmas in Texas’. Oh my! They have some of the best ideas and most beautiful homes.

Thanks to all my loyal readers and welcome to my new followers.

*Happy Holidays*

Wow!! Thank you. :) I'll be loving those gorgeous tea cup coasters while I drink my chamomile tea with caramel. Thank you so much, Diane. :)

You are not the only lazy decorator and hey we can't call it that...it's clever...that's the word! I have things paper clipped, glued, stapled.. you name it. :)

Great idea Diane. I have many of my cross stitch pieces framed and I found that while the non glare glass was good for taking a picture of my finished project, something about that type of glass made the stitching look "flat" so I went back to regular glass. I do take some short cuts in decorating as well. It is nice to know that you are not locked into one style. So I love your idea of making pillows and being able to take them apart and re purposing them later. With the double sided tape, stitch witchery etc, we can make nice short term uses of fabric and I like that.

What a beautiful and interesting post, Diane! Lovely decorating ideas!
I'd love to take shortcuts like that, but I have too many relatives that would take and turn the pillows to "observe" the quality of my sewing. :)
Enjoy your Christmas preparations! Big hugs!

Yes, clever! I've made pillows with button closures on one end so it can be removed for washing. LOVE the North Pole fabric!

I'd say that you are an innovative decorator. Decorating accessories are a hug investment and when they spend most of the year packed away in a box, they a wasted investment. I rather like your idea; besides covering the framed art with a holiday themed napkin or fabric gives a beautiful background for the sweet girls that you photograph. Have a wonderful day.

That is a clever way to decorate pillows and you can change them easily for Christmas or other holiday.

Congrats to Stacey. 'Great fix for the glass glare. One other solution is to invest in non-glare plexi-glass. Check local Hobby Lobby or Michael's. It is well worth the investment. I wait for sales on framing options at those stores :)

Oh how lucky for Stacey - I love a give-away- no matter who wins. It is fun to think about how much the winner will enjoy the prize. And her blog is so much fun - I got lost wondering about looking at all the christmas pretties.

Your photo reflection cover is great - and those pillow ideas are wonderful - I don't change my pillow covers very often - but I do have several sets that I rotate in and out for seasons or holidays. A few years ago I seemed to find needlepoint type christmas pillows at every turn in thrift stores - and really cheaply. Some were as little as 1.99 and so I have plenty of cute pillows for the holidays. You come up with the greatest ideas. And I love your header.

That is so clever, Diane, and a great way to avoid those reflections. Have a wonderful Saturday. It's dreary and rainy here today, maybe turning to snow by Monday. That's ok, cuz I know Carla wants snow. . :-)
