Sandhill Cranes at Halpata Tastanaki Preserve

We were so surprised to see these beautiful Sandhill Cranes at HTP last week. What amazing details they have in their feathers!

How many do YOU see? I think there is one hiding in the brush. (in the center of the photo)

Everyone come out for a photo shoot!

We have 48 hikes in for the year so far.
(we did 50 last year so we need at least 2 more!)

I’m joining Tex for the

Happy Holidays from Florida!

Neat to see those up close. We get them circling overhead in late fall and early spring. Good weather forecasters!

Wonderful photos. They are wonderful birds. We see the sandhill cranes here high above us in the sky riding the thermals, honking and talking. They actually spend time in Nebraska. Of course there is a big migration of people who go there, too, to see them. I think I'd like to do that this spring.

Those are gorgeous cranes Diane. I sent you a Christmas card about a week and a half ago and I do hope that you received it by now. Just wondering. Do enjoy your day and the weekend.

Oh my gosh, they are amazing. Our internet connection has been awful for the past week or so, so no getting online to visit favourite places. Hopefully it has been fixed today and I can visit favourite places once again.

So enjoyed your photos. It's a rainy gloomy day in NYC and I enjoyed hiking in sunshine with you.

Great shots of the cranes - and of course the fences by default.

Those cranes have their Christmas hats on. We had a gray crane on our itty bitty pond this week. Have a Merry Christmas.

Fabulous photos. We saw sandhill cranes in Wisconsin last year when we went back for Don's 50th high school reunion - they were everywhere - what a thrill to see them. I had only seen one lone one before - in a field in CA - must have been blown off course. They are one of the most exciting birds I've ever seen - just could not stop taking pictures of them. Enjoy the rest of your week my friend.

While reading your post I could help humming my version of Mr Sandman by the Chordettes: 'Mr Crany standing so proud, looking beautiful ...'
Keep having fun!
