Cedar Waxwings

Every winter Cedar Waxwings come to a Live Oak tree across the street and spend a few days here in North Central Florida. I'm not sure where they are migrating from (or to) but they are a welcome sight!

I cropped a few photos to show you up close.

This one looks like it's having a 'bad hair day'! haha!

And look at the tips of the tail feathers. They look like they've been dipped in some yellow paint.

Of course there are always a few 'imposters' in the flock.

A big robin is right in the middle of this flock.
We've had several robins in our yard this week so maybe he decided to migrate with this flock.

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE
and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Do you have Cedar Waxwings in your area?

We do not have cedar waxwings. I have heard of them, but never seen one. Your pictures are lovely. Thanks for sharing them. And every flock needs a robin or two. ;)

Hi Diane! Thanks for sharing some photos of these beautiful birds. They are quite colourful (yellow, orange, cream, grey, white, black and brown) and I like that.
Have a lovely weekend!

We love ceased waxwings here. Perhaps yours will summer in the northern cColorqdo plains. While not particularly rare here, we don't see them often and have not had any visit the GardenSpot. Your shots are very good.

Some of them have arrived there from Ontario, I love it when they return in spring. ;)

I do not believe I have ever seen a waxwing here. I am just now seeing a few cardinals. They are so pretty on a dreary day. The Wheeler Wildlife Refuge is hosting the Whooping Crane and Sandhill Crane festival this weekend. Both birds come to the Tennessee River Valley at this time of the year.

Surprisingly we have a lot of cedar waxwings as well as robins in New Brunswick this winter. I guess they knew it would be a mild one so decided to stay. I don't have any fruit trees so don't see them around here but I've seen lots on the birding Facebook page that I follow. You are fortunate to see these beauties. I love their colouring.

I don't think I've ever seen Cedar Waxwings in our area. I don't know if they are west of the Rockies. They are birds with personality - with those wild tufts of hair! Great photos.

Love these very pretty birds, we have them here when it is warm but come winter they head south to warmer climes, smart birds! Deb xo

I love cedar waxwings, but haven't seen any in Florida ... We do see them in Oregon. For that matter the same is true of robins ... They are the most common sight in Oregon, but I've never seen one here in our part of Florida. So thanks for the memories! Fun.

Don't see any Cedar Waxwings in my area, Diane. In fact, it's the first time I've seen this delightful bird. I do, however, see many many Robins, and they are one of my favorite birds. It's nice that you appreciate the birds, Diane. They bring us great pleasure.

Have a lovely weekend.

Yes we do have Cedar Waxwings. I have apple trees in my backyard; there is one variety which keeps its apples all winter, they don't drop in the fall. There is always a flock of Waxwings that arrive at some point and clean these two trees. It takes them a few days, but there is no sign of apples left when they depart.

I'm learning about birds from the photos you and some other bloggers post. Thank you for knowing what they are because I sure don't! Thank you so much!

Oh what beautiful birds - love the bad hair day picture. We rarely see any here - but I have seen them other places. Today I saw a tiny flock of flickers in a leafless tree - amazing.

We do have cedar waxwings here, Diane, but they head south in the winter (a lot smarter than I am)...we also have something called a Bohemian waxwing (I think that's right) but can't say that I have seen any of them. Great photos. xo Diana

We have cedar wax wings here in the summer and they leave for the winter. They do tend to flock all the time.
you rarely see one bird on it's own.

I have never seen a Cedar Waxwing around here so a treat to see. Interesting that the Robin joins in with the flock and they get along!

Cedar Wax Wings have funny hair! I love these photos…and it's neat they are willing to share their space with a robin, LOL!

I think the Cedar Wax wings are heading your way from Wisconsin. LOL
We do have them, but only in the summer months. They like to eat our Mountain Ash tree's berries.
I think the Cedar Wax wing is one of the most beautiful birds.

I haven't noticed them, but I'm just home after a month away. I hope to bring the birds back to me feeder soon and will be looking diligently for Cedar Waxwings!

I love birds! Such sweet pictures! I hope their tummies are filled with worms!

Not at this time of year, but, yes, we have them. They are a very handsome bird with those tufts. I didn't know that robins would migrate with a different bird. Very interesting.
