Red-headed woodpecker

We got such a good look at a bird we have never seen before!

A Red-headed woodpecker. It flew right in front of our car and we had a good place to pull over to get photos.

I only got one that shows his bright colors.

He moved around the tree and the others were just in silhouette.

How exciting to see this beautiful bird near our home here in Florida. Wikipedia states HERE that it is listed as near threatened. We see a lot of different woodpeckers here in Florida but this one was very different in it's coloring.

Have you had a good week too?

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE
and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Lucky sighting and that you were able to get so close and to get great photos. I think we have red headed woodpeckers here. We never see them. One came to the feeders a few years ago. Was he just passing through? Don't know.

Diane, That is a good shot. We have those here too. We have many wood pecker types. A willow tree we took down when we had lived here one year, had a wood pecker condo in it. LOL. Hope you are enjoying some good weather. Our weather in these parts has gone crazy...all mixed up. Do not even know what to wear. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

The woodpeckers were very busy here this morning, from the sounds in the woods. You were lucky to get the good photos - isn't it nice when things come together to allow that?

Hi Diane,
That was a good shot of the woodpecker. He's one of my favorite birds to see.
We have them here in the dead pines, I get to see them sometimes. I usually hear them before I see them!
Have a great weekend my friend,
Dorothy

Hi - Great photos.
We have a woodpecker in our neighborhood who loves to drum on stop signs. He is so loud. I think he is trying to be the loudest of them all for the ladies. LOL

I see them once in a while right here in our RV Resort (this time of year only). Did not know they were threatened. Did know they are absolutely stunningly beautiful. Great picture!!!

I used to see pileated woodpeckers around our neighborhood. Love to watch them. They are so much larger. But Haven't seen one in over a year.

We have a lot of woodpeckers at the lake, and none in Chicago. I think ours have red heads too. Now I'm going to have to pay attention next time I'm down there.

Oh fabulous shot - I do love the woodpeckers. We don't have a lot of them that we see often so it is indeed a treat. We are having a great weekend - wonderful trip to the beach yesterday in perfect weather. Happy rest of the weekend my friend.

Wow- that was lucky- or perfect timing to be sure. Pretty bird and I am glad you got to see it and also get photos. Have a wonderful Sunday evening!

Diane, that woodpecker reminds me of the Woody Woodpecker cartoons of my youth. I hope yours is not as annoying as the one on tv was!

I hope to catch up on your past posts. I've not been well this past week and just now getting to the point of putting out my welcome mat on my new blog - comments open too!

Have a lovely Sunday!

We were in Florida a couple weeks ago at Disney! Had a great time and the weather was awesome. Except for the last day it was close to 90. That tree next to the Church is huge but so pretty!

Those red-headed woodpeckers are so hard to photograph. Nice captures.
