Florida Fish and Wildlife

We drove down to a boat dock and found ourselves at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission in Crystal River, FL.

I took a quick pic of their boat.

And then we drove around to see this huge nesting platform.

We didn’t see any birds on the nest but we did see a Swallow tail Kite in the sky. The nest may have been made by an Osprey.

But I just happen to have some photos that I took of an Osprey this summer!

He looked amazing with the sun shining bright on his light colored feathers.

He was high in the sky so I had to zoom to get these so they are cropped!

There’s always something to see!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

Hello, looks like a pretty spot in Crystal River. The Osprey's nest are big. Great sighting of the Kite, they are pretty raptors. We saw the Kite and lots of Ospreys during our Florida visit.

Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, Enjoy your weekend!

Glad you have had rain--we have not right here where I am living--not in a months time--that is a long time for Florida--love the sunshine every day--but am waiting for some rain--now my son lives near 95 and he gets some rain every day he says--funny how the rains hit here in Fl.
love and laughter, di

Diane, I found your site through Kathy. As I was scrolling down through your pictures, I saw a beautiful dragonfly. I immediately stopped to look. Our son is in Marietta, Ohio this week to attend a dragonfly conference. They have dragonflies in Marietta that are not seen any other place. I enjoyed looking at pictures of your critters and your vintage glasses. What a great hobby!

I bet it was an osprey nest -- those birds build those big old nests in the strangest places. Love love love your fight shots. I never can get those.

That huge nest could only be an Osprey I guess. You are so lucky that Ospreys are common birds in Florida but then I know you have lots of water containing lots of fish.

Stunning 'in flight' images today of the Osprey Diane!!

Your contribution for us birders at I'd Rather B Birdin' this weekend has been an awesome experience...thanks!!!

ps...to see a kite...of any subspecies would be a lifer for me. Someday perhaps.

Beautiful shots of the osprey. There is an osprey nest near my daughter's house and it's fun to watch the comings and goings at nesting time.

I would have guessed osprey for the platform nest as well, tireless hunters for fish to feed their families. Great captures in the air, cropped and all.

I love to see those ospreys, they are very interesting birds aren't they? They do build those big nests. We have them all over here, but the best photos I got were the ones last summer of the osprey and his big fish he caught at Sanibel in florida. Hope y'all had a nice weekend. It was awful hot here. Mercy!!! Heat wave!

That is one huge Osprey nest! We have one on a light standard near our home. Also nice Swallow-tailed Kite and Red-tailed Hawk shots.
