A Funny thing happened on the way….

to the Library Book Sale!

DSCN2528

I knew it would start at 10 am which gave me plenty of time to run over to the Farmer’s Mkt and get fresh veggies and fruit. But guess who was there? A nice young man from the library! He had a table set up showing lots of interesting things about our public library. So I told him I didn’t have time to chat…I was on my way to the book sale! And he gave me a book and bookmarks to get me started!

The Flying Circus by Susan Crandall. I’ve read it but it’s one I know I will read again and again! Have you read it? OH MY! It’s GOOD!!!

So here are some of my book sale finds!

You can always use another cookbook or 2…

Or a book of poetry…

or an old historical novel.

But the ‘find of the day’ was Ocali Country published in 1966.

To quote the book cover, “ Ocali Country tells of Marion County, of the rich backgound of it’s distant past and of it’s present importance. More than this it tells of the years between, of its people and of the events which caused it to become one of the most widely known counties in Florida.”

I love maps so I’ve been pouring over these…

and these!

I love learning more about the history of this area where I live now. What are you reading this week?

Great finds Diane. Our book room has a half off sale all during the month of October so I know I will be bringing home some books. ( Maybe for the little house...that is my excuse for all my purchasing lately.:)

Some good finds at the library sale Diane. I've purchased many historical books about the community I live in and my favourite is the one of the area farms and the families that have lived at each.

Sounds like a successful sale! So fun to find the local history book and the cookbooks. I'll keep 'The Flying Circus' on my book list - thanks for the recommendation! I am in between books right now, but I just read the diaries of Anne Morrow Lindbergh - the wife of the famous aviator. It was so good. Happy reading! xx Karen

What a great score, Diane! I'm also a huge fan of libraries and remember when we used to purchased books by the pound at their book sales. I'm currently reading "A Bookman's Tale" by Charles Lovett.

Hello Diane. I love library book sales but I might have to forego the one in November. I have so many books that the shelves are overflowing. Oh NOOOOO! But, maybe, if I can weed some out, and make room, I CAN go to the upcoming sale....hee hee Susan

Hi Diane, what great finding you got there. Loving the maps, specially the Florida one. Hope it's a little cooler up there. No signs of Fall here at all. Stay safe, hopefully nothing going your way.
Sending blessings,

What a great day you had. I'm, still reading Lark Rise to Candleford about life in the Oxfordshire countryside in the 1880s. In one part of the book, the author describes the games that the children made up (she was one of the kids growing up there). It was so lovely to read about their imaginations, the exercise they got, running around so much, playing so hard. It's so very different from the world we live in today.

I am jealous, I want those cookbooks. :-)
