Books and Kindness

I didn’t have to think very long to come up with a word I want to focus on this year…

Kindness !

My blog friend at Winds of Life has a snowy bird in her banner so I tried to make one. Not sure I can figure out how to put a gif in my banner but it looks neat, doesn’t it?

I try to be thoughtful to others but I know there is always ‘room for improvement’ so I choose kindness for my word this year.

I had another post in draft but it was negative so I decided to feature some books I’ll be reading this year. (We had an example of ‘unkindness’ last month that I was going to write about but you know…it’s not worth mentioning.)

Everyone that reads my blog knows I love books. My sister was sweet to send me a Daily Devotional book by Beth Moore. (a FAVORITE author!)

At around the same time, I found another similar book that has a daily prayer by Beth Moore.

DSCN3090

So every day, I’m going to take the time to read these and focus on kindness this year.

My blog friend from Life is Good shared this quote,

"If someone were to pay you 10 cents for every kind word you said about people and collect 5 cents for every unkind word, would be you be rich or poor?"

Author unknown, quoted by Jacob M Braude

Have you chosen a word for this year or made any New Year’s resolutions?

I’m joining Thankful Thursdays today!

Morning Friend,

Here it comes (FINALLY) SNOW, SNOW and more SNOW. Little bit this afternoon and the major event Friday night into Saturday. We're ready and maybe the brand new, never needed generator will get to show his stuff. It ran through its test program yesterday so he is ready and waiting..........

Hugs

That is a GREAT word, Diane. That is the one word I stress over and over to my kids- BE KIND (to everyone). Years ago I went to a couple of Beth Moore's studies and they were good ones.
Have a wonderful Thursday (she said kindly)....xo Diana

Kindness is a great word! My word for the year is adventure.

A perfect word for this new year. Kindness doesn't cost a thing to give and is so meaningful!

Sweet Sis what a great word. I already think you are a very kind person but this is a wonderful way to be more aware of all we say and do. I haven't choosen a word for this year but am leaning towards, simplify. I have got to get my life simpler to I can handle everything in it. Love your header and the photo of you on a tricycle! So cute! I'm enjoying my new daily devotional book that my Sara gave me this year.
hugs!!

Great choice of a word. You are already a kind person, so this comes naturally to you. My chosen word is patience. We'll see how well I do with that, lol. Happy first week of the New Year to you and your husband :)

First of all, I've never heard you say a negative word! I really doubt that the original post was in the slightest bit negative. :)

I love Beth Moore! I think I'll go look for those books too. There's nothing like a little daily devotional or prayer to make you feel great.

Your gif is so cool. No idea how to do those here!

Kindness is a perfect word and it already describes you.

Kindness is a great word for the year. Certainly, the world can do with all the kindness we can give it. The books look like great thought starters for the day, too. Beth Moore writes with such insight. Have a great day, my friend!

Happy Epiphany!

I don't choose words at the start of each year but kindness is one that could make one rich if paid by the word. :-)
Your new devotional books look nice and I'll add the author to my list when I'm ready for a new one.
Enjoy the rest of the week!

What a beautiful word to choose, Diane. I have never chosen a word for the year and I don't do resolutions. One word that is whispered in my ear often is patience. If I were to choose a word that would be it! Have a wonderful day! ♥

Kindness is a wonderful word for the new year, Diane. And that quote is splendid. I know you are a book lover, and you pop over to my friend Jeanie's blog, 'The Marmelade Gypsy.' She has a list of books to read and some of them you may have already read.

I hope the new year is being kind to you, Diane.

love, ~Sheri

Hello, Kindness is a good word to focus on. I think you are a sweet woman who is always kind. I can not imagine you even doing a negative post. Love the Waxwing in the snow.
Happy Thursday, enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

Diane, that's a good word you've chosen. A touch of kindness extended to another can make a huge difference in that person's life. I like your new header and the way you arranged it to be on an envelope. Clever and creative!

I like Beth Moore too.
Kindness is a good word to pick.
No, I haven't picked a word for the year.

That's food for thought... I am sorry that any unkindness came near you, but you are showing us how to deal with it...pay it no mind! I do like that graphic with the snow.

I love your bird in the snow. I hope you find a way to place it where you want him. I do like your header as well.

Kindness is a good word. When we do not agree with people, we still need to be kind. I can tell that you are very kind person.

I absolutely love Beth Moore. I have several of her books and have been in a couple Bible studies by her. I am still looking for a book to read like a devotional. Being slightly a creative, I looked at the Inspire bible. It comes with color pages, but the print was not large enough for me to see. I know that I would have liked it. Oh well! I will keep looking.

Hi Diane. Love your little bird and snowflakes! We are due for snow tomorrow night. Thankfully, we have a shovel and some salt!

Somehow I did something that messed up my WP blog and I can't fix it so I'm back to blogger for good. twigsandbranches.

I will say that it is good to be home. xo

I still haven't chosen a word - but love "kindness ". It seems like a great way to help make the world a better place to live. The bird is beautiful!

I love your word for the year, Diane! That is something this world certainly could use more of, although I must say that the blog world is full of the kindest people on the planet, for sure! I love your snowy bird banner. We get Cedar Waxwings in the spring when they come through to eat all the remaining holly berries and then leave. It's always a thrill to see them. I haven't read the books you featured, but I will certainly keep my eye out for them. I love uplifting books. Thank you for being the sweet and kind person that you are. Hugs xo Karen

Hi Diane, and happy new year. You have picked a great word for 2017. You are so sweet! I like the book from your sister. I see that you have a lot of books to read for your challenge for 2017 and I wish you happy reading and good luck. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

I know what you mean...there have been times when I wanted to share some not very happy things on my blog and sometimes even writing it out helped but I never posted it. I love the 10 cent/5 cent theory....great idea! I think I am pretty kind but my problem is I feel taken advantage of because of it at times. I used to quote..."don't take kindness as weakness" but sometimes it takes more strength to forgive and forget than to rip somebody up one side and down the other but I can do it if need be! LOL! My word that I will be focusing on this year is FOCUS! LOL!

First, before I forget, thank you so much for coming to visit me at The Marmelade Gypsy. I love to meet new bloggers.

And your word is fabulous -- one I toyed with very much. It is one of the best words in the English language, I think and a wonderful guidepost for 2017!

I hope your new year is simply lovely.

I did not chose a word for the New year, but I love yours! If everyone showed more kindness this would be a much better world, wouldn't it?

Kindness is a great word, and I like the question you included: would you be rich or poor. I picked "rest" for 2017 since after my heartbreaking November I am in need of rest, so that is a good theme for me.

Great word - and I know you will make a good go of it - as you are already so good and kind to start with. I have been considering kindness for this year too - and also happiness - I'm still deciding - but then there is a lot of this year to go so I have time. Happiness and kindness to you my sweet friend.
