‘The Fisherman’s Encyclopedia’

I always like to tell people that the first conversation I had with my ‘husband to be’ was about fishing. I lived on a beautiful mountain stream in the mountains of NC and I loved to fly fish. So we talked about fishing. (I may have invited him to go fishing with me! lol)

A few days ago, I went to the public library and found this beautiful leather bound book in the lobby sales. It is BIG…bigger than it looks here! And it was published in 1950 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and it has the most beautiful illustrations.

It was fun reading about places to fish in Arkansas where I grew up too.

I love old books and it’s fun to get lost in an encyclopedia filled with interesting information.

Especially if you like to fish!

A friend asked me if I liked fishing...I responded, worms on a hook? I would have to have someone to bait and remove the fish if I caught one!! :)

I am not patient enough for fishing, but I do love old books of almost any kind. My daughter likes to fish with her dad and hubby though.

Isn't it amazing what we learn about each other through blogging? I too would never have imagined you fishing, but why not? Did you buy the book?
Happy MM.

Hi There, My Daddy loved to fish.... So do my sons....But--I never did take time to go and enjoy it....

We do love Arkansas ---and spend time there every year... We've been to the Ouachita River area --and the Little Missouri River area in Arkansas not to fish but to search for Waterfalls...

I published a blog post this morning.

Hugs,
Betsy

Diane your new old book is quite special. Even though we can now look up every thing on the computer, a book is a lot more interesting to me. I can imagine you have many great fishing stories to tell. ♥

I wouldn't have expected you to be a fisherwoman, Diane - there's always something new to learn about our friends. The old illustrations in your book look beautiful. I like fishing, as long as I don't have to put a wriggly worm onto a hook. Or kill the fish, although I have done so.
Have a good week!

Diane, that is so interesting! I love looking at all the different fish. You know, I miss encyclopedias. So much information that you can find on each page. Today you can google for information but I miss seeing the entries before and after what I'm looking for!

Interesting that you like to fish, : ) most women don't.

I don't fish and I don't even like to eat fish that much. Just salmon and flounder. Sometimes cod but that's it. I like your story about inviting your husband to fish. That's probably what caught his attention. Have a great week, Diane!

What a cool book and a great mosaic, Diane! I think it is very sweet that you asked her hubby to be to go fishing with you! Not many women would do that or even think about it! Is it cold in FL too??

My goodness, I never would have dreamed you loved to fly fish. Thats impressive! I too love illustrations in beloved books. They are small works of art that are ours. Sometimes its tempting to cut them out and frame them, but I try not to.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

I had no idea you wee a fly fisherwoman! I wanted to learn when I first moved down here as the Buffalo river is wonderful for fly fishing and people come from all over to fish there. There are like 5 different kinds of trout in that river.
Wonderful book and if you lived nearer you could teach me! I've fished before and I enjoy it but never fly fishing. What a great find!

Oh you are a sly one! I bet your hubby was the biggest fish you ever caught! Hahahahahaha!

You need to go fishing in Alaska. I have never been but one of our friends went there and brought home some of the tastiest trout I have ever eaten. Of course, I have eaten red snapper when we lived in Pensacola and that was delicious. Fish shipped in to Ohio somehow loses its freshness.

To be honest, I have never been fishing in my life! It's the worms, you know. :)

Oh, forgot to say that I was in the Goodwill today and bought a ceramic doll for $4. I thought, if Diane can have dolls, why can't I? Hee! Hee! See how you influence your fellow bloggers? :)I do love your dolls. I have never seen dolls with those interesting faces. So cool!

Oh, I'm sure that your being a fly fisher was a great selling point on a date! I loved seeing your finds. My dad was a fly fisherman so I grew up with it. All very good memories.

What a great book you found at the library, Diane. I didn't know you knew how to fly fish. Have you ever seen the movie 'A River Runs Through It?' I think you would really like it. That green dish is pretty awesome too. : )

I absolutely love the enthusiasm you share on your finds when you share them. I have only fished one time that I remember. My sister and brother-in-law each had a fishing pole. They made me a drop line. I caught 6 Blue Gill, enough for our supper, which was so tasty and they caught dessert ;) Take care my friend~

That was a good find Diane. I've always thought fly fishing looked like an orchestrated dance with a fishing line - quite an art to it I'm sure. And, I'm impressed my sis knows how to do this!
