Babies at the Blue!

Blue Run Park in Dunnellon, FL is the best place to see critters of every description, especially birds!

We saw this Juvenile Little Blue Heron last weekend.

We weren't sure what he was. We knew he was a Heron but was confused when we saw his mottled colors.

Thanks Anni for helping us with the positive ID!

Anni wrote, 'if the bird had a BLUE BILL/BEAK with a black tip, it's always a little blue heron.'

And our baby Red Shouldered Hawks are hopping out of the nest.

They are both still there, hopping from the nest out onto the branches of the tree. He hopped out to say HI !!!

I know I'll be sad when we go back and they are gone. We first saw them on May 14th, when they were just little fuzzy chicks. See post HERE!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE
and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

The heron shots are pretty cool. I can't recall capturing an adolescent with that coloration before :)

Doesn't the juvenile Heron look as awkward as our teenagers:-) Love your photos of wild life XOXO

A most attractive teenager! I find bird IDs a challenge to make quite often.

Diane, what gorgeous shades of blue on the Heron. Sad that the hawks have to grow up but they will be magnificent beauties!

You are well blessed to be able to see these wonderful water birds slowly become fledglings. A white herron survived out of 3 eggs that their parents layed in the huge gum tree next door (we live on a huge lake and wetland at the bottom of our garden).
These events are priceless!
Hugs,
Suzy

Lovely shots of the Heron, that is one bird that confuses me when I'm in Florida, because of the great colour change.
All the, best Gordon.

What a cute young Blue Heron. His belly looks tie-dyed hehehe. Love his blue colors swirling around his feathers. Yes, you do see lots of spectacular birds at Blue Run Park, Diane, and I love seeing them with you. : )

Great post ... and great info on ID... juveniles always confuse me. (LOL that' sentence is pretty much true about humans too, but of course I meant bird IDs).
