Moorhen Chicks +

Baby birds are always the cutest, don't you think?

It's 'common' to see the Common Moorhen at the neighborhood pond.

But it was a surprise to see the 2 chicks following along behind her in the water.

I think they felt like they needed to hide.

And it's easy to hide in the tall reeds that grow in the shallow part of the pond.

While I was photographing the chicks,

a Great Blue Heron flew in.

And then when I turned to go I spotted this beautiful Eastern Bluebird.

Always something to see when you take an evening walk around here.

Have you seen anything special at your house this week?

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Hello, I miss the birds in Florida. The Moorhen chicks are adorable. The Bluebird is one of my all time favorites, they are so pretty. Great series of photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend.

Nothing special unless one considers a squirrel begging at one's patio door special. I don't and I don't feed the squirrels. Crazy thing. There was the doe, but she's driving me nuts eating my garden so I don't like her either. Now a bluebird...I could get behind that!

We have a heron who hangs out in our bayou. We have named him Hank (Hank Aaron). My son dubbed him that. However, I would love to see the bluebird around here. I might get completely giddy. I am always on the hunt for birds as I walk.

Wonderful captures, Diane! I've been enjoying a vermillion flycatcher and his mate this week. So fun to watch them catch insects out of thin air. Have a wonder-filled weekend!

I've become especially fond of baby ducks lately! I'm at the ranch and we have 5 ducks that stay on the pond that we're hatched here. They are grown now and I found three duck eggs today when I went down to do Critter Chores. Then there's a whole pen of young ducks that I let out every morning and pen up again at night. Coyotes make a quick meal of them if we don't! Then there is a hutch of baby ducks to take care of and they need a lot of water! Finally, there are some duck eggs in the incubator that I check on.
You would love it down here....or I should say UP here! But it's 101 today and that's really uncomfortable!
Your photos are so beautiful!

Those baby Moorhens are so cute. I can see why they hide from the more fierce birds. I especially like that Eastern Bluebird. She sure is a beauty. Such a pretty color of blue.

So many pretty critters on your evening walk, Diane.

We are blessed with lots of waterfowl here in Lakeland. I had to slow down a few days ago on my way to work to let a Blue Heron cross the street in front of me.

Diane, your bird photos are so lovely! I especially like the eastern bluebird. We have seen many birds at our feeders, mostly finches and cardinals and the mourning doves on the ground. Bunnies are hopping around every day. I love seeing all the creatures that enjoy our gardens. ♥

Wow....LOVE that bluebird portrait Diane!! Extraordinary photo.

Those chicks are adorable, aren't they? And your photos, all of them, are so clear ...the water, the reeds AND the birds. Wonderful post.

Thanks so much for joining us birders at I'd Rather B Birdin'.

I love your finds. I have a Stellar Jay that calls to me every morning from a nearby Pine tree. He wants me to bring out some bread crumbs. Coming up the hill at dusk this week a big red fox ran in front of the car as did a coyote on the way to Gunnison on my grocery trip this week. I wish I had more birds....I am at too high an altitude.

Love the Bluebird. Of course. As to Moorhens, around here all they do is just run from my camera. Not at all friendly birds. Jst kiddin Diane.

so beautiful images :) We had a pair breathing a couple of years ago but the waterlevel in the pond lowered so they are gone. I miss them :( I have not seen any for three years now.

Great photos of the moorhen chicks. I still have not seen them at that stage. They only recently showed up in our local wetlands (or maybe I missed seeing them over the past 10 years I have been trekking the patch).

Hi Diane,
Baby birds are also always nice to see :-)
You have been able to make beautiful pictures.
The East Blue Bird. Is a beautiful voyel. Unfortunately, we do not have that in the Netherlands. I wish you a very nice new week.

A hug,
Helma

The bluebirds are my favorite and fortunately I see them around here often. Yesterday I witnessed a cormorant swallow an eel. Not a pretty sight!

Gorgeous birds. I'd never seen a Moor hen till seeing one on Valerie's blog the other day with it's remarkable and bizarre but very cute feet! Now another! And that glorious blue bird. Sigh!
