The Calm AFTER the Storm

Hurricane Irma came through North Central Florida overnight Sunday...into the wee hours of Monday morning. We didn't get much sleep but by the next day the rain ended and high winds continued. Tuesday morning we had blue skies and less wind and that gave us a chance to get outside and see what was what. Just small limbs, leaves and debris around our house but my friend on the next street had a big tree come down in her backyard. And now that we've had a chance to drive around, there are lots of trees down....many of them uprooted.

I walked to the pond on Tuesday night so I'll share those photos.

From this angle you can get an idea of what I mean by limbs, leaves and debris.

It's everywhere like that. I'm going to be sad to see what damage there has been at my beloved Shalom Park. We drove by there Thursday but the gates were locked.

I was happy to see the Little Blue Heron at the pond but most of the tall reeds have blown down.

A couple of nights before the storm, I saw about 15 ducks at the pond. Shovelers, Hybrid Mallards and Grebes. But they are not there now.

We continue to pray for those that are still suffering from Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. It's been a tough year and I appreciate all of my blog buddies that have prayed for us. Friends and family...caring and praying...makes all the difference in the world. 💕

I was just getting ready to google you to see if there was a post from you---and there you were- it popped into my feed. I am so happy you are okay. The good thing about the lush terrain of FL is that things will regrow more quickly than they would in other parts of the country. That being said, I am so sorry you had to go through that experience and lose so much around you. The Keys are especially decimated. So sad- praying for you and all of FL. xo Diana

Hello, I am glad the damage was not worse in your community. I will take some time to clean up all the debris, but it is more important you were were all safe during the storm. I like your Little Blue shot and the ducks. I hope all the wildlife survived the storm too. Pretty sunset shots. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

Nature is resilient, but it's hard to see the damage and the clean up is tough. Hope your ducks all return. Maybe they're just waiting a bit to make sure it doesn't return.

I am glad that some downed trees was all the damage you had. I am hoping that animals know how to take shelter during a storm, and you will see all the usual wildlife again soon.

Diane, I am praying everyone gets their power back soon...that makes a huge difference when trying to stay put and clean up all that damage. I always think , "where can they put it?"...I hope people can reuse many things. It's going to be a truly tough time for so many....if all join in it will help. Still praying for you and yours. For your state. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

Glad you are safe. It looked horrible on the news.
Hope the people that need it get the help they need!

We were pretty lucky here also, but Sara and family had a tree down and they are still without power. They have been having dinner and baths here and spent the night a few times also. We hope today the power is back on. Glad you are OK!

It IS amazing the destruction! Been following St. Simons on Facebook and it appears they still are without power in some parts. Lots and lots of trees down -- but hopefully, they'll be able to bounce back!

I am just so happy that everyone that I know in Florida is fine. There will be a lot of clean up, but nothing like what was expected. Now is the time that all neighborhoods come together and work for a common cause. We experienced that after Mt. St. Helen's blew and we were covered in ash.

Even with the storms, nature still reveals its beauty, and you can surely tell this from your pictures, Diane. Yes, still praying for those suffering from the hurricane. That little blue heron managed to make it through the storm. :)

I hope things get back to normal for you soon.

love, ~Sheri

Diane, I'm glad you are ok. So many people have suffered terrible damage. The magical thing about nature is that it continues and restores itself.

Glad you came through Irma okay! Still praying for the many who lost so much and those who still have no power.

Beautiful pictures and I'm glad things are getting back to normal sort of) for you -- at least you can get out. We read the Fort Myers paper on line and today they showed pictures of my favorite park (six mile cypress) and it is devastated. They had a list of parks and none were open yet. I'm really worried about the birds, just hoping there are still some there when we get back.

I am so sorry that you and your husband had to go through this horrible hurricane. I have never been in one and I have no desire to. It will be a lot of work to clean up, but we can be thankful that your neighborhood didn't lose life. Prayer does help us so much when we go through such awful situations in life. Be safe out there!

She was still a cat 2 when she came right over Tampa. I haven't driven around a lot, but just considering what I listened to, howling over my head the night she hit, I expected a lot worse...and a tree to divide my house in two any moment. (Ya ought to see the pile of debris in my driveway.)

I'm so happy that y'all didn't sustain any damage, and that you didn't lose power when so many Floridians did! The little ducks will come back, you'll see.

A lot to recover from, including the stress. I have to keep an eye on the Atlantic and it sure looks active. Hope everything just fizzles.

It's good to read you had little damage from Irma. It coulda been a whole lot worse. We also lucked out with Hurricane Harvey. Just fence damage which can easily be replaced.

LOVE the L B Heron.
And the scenes from around your 'hood.

Thanks so much for adding your link to this post with us at I'd Rather B Birdin' this weekend. Always a joy to view your shares!!

It is amazing the damage a hurricane can do. So sad to watch the damage on tv. Glad you are safe and I hope the birds and animals will return.

I'm glad to see a post from you and read that you are okay. The branches will take awhile to clean up. Glad the heron is back, too.

I am so happy that you did not have a lot of damage to your house and that you guys are ok. My sister lost her whole dock and had a little bit of water damage inside her house but nothing serious. It must be so scary for everyone living in those parts. I hope that you will be ok for the rest of the hurricane season. Take care and be well.

You definitely dodged a bullet! So many have lost everything! I often wonder about the animals during these horrific storms and the weather people never talk about it....I wish they would. I can't be the only one concerned for them. So glad you are okay and considering there wasn't a great loss of life as compared to other storms.
