We Survived Hurricane Irma!

We spent a miserable night with the howling winds as Hurricane Irma came right up through the center of the state...where we live! I don't know how we managed to have such little damage but we are very fortunate. We have some loose shingles and our lawn and the golf course behind us is littered with leaves, Spanish moss and small branches. We still have Tropical force winds today so we can't get outside yet. There's no way to know yet what damage is in our neighborhood and community.

The winds were FIERCE overnight and the wind pounded the windows. We had moved our furniture away from the windows but we had very little dampness on the windowsills.

WHEW...we are busy today putting our house back in order. At least I cooked extra in case we lost power, so we will be eating good this week. So far our power has blinked on and off but stayed on for the most part.

Thank you ALL so much for your prayers. And thanks for all of the sweet comments and thoughtful emails. We continue to pray for those that have suffered damage and for those still in the path.

I always love to go to Princess Sassy Pants to see her beautiful art and quotes. Thanks to her for this perfect post!

I'll be back soon. Don't have too much fun while I'm gone! teehee!

Your blog buddy, Diane

Hello Diane, I am so glad you and your hubby are safe. Minimal damage is good, things could always be worse. I try to look at the bright side and no one was hurt. Thanks for the update, I was thinking of you!

Glad all is well. I can never wish them on anyone, but rather pray they will weaken. It has been some tense days seeing where it would go.

Diane, I am thrilled you are safe. My g.daughter survived too. I am proud of how brave she was. I have not heard from her myself...but her mom text me at 7:00 this morning and said she was fine. Blessings and hugs to you, xoxo, Susie

Diane, you certainly have been in my thoughts. With the continual news coverage on Irma, it was hard not think about our friends and family in her path. We are so thankful that you are safe and well.

Praise God! I've had 'survivor's guilt' here in Texas over the weekend just knowing the uncertainty y'all were facing with dire dangers possible and even probable! One by one, all my friends have been or are being accounted for and I'm grateful to see you post!
Enjoy your good food and I hope your heart can now rest easier!

So glad to hear you're ok, Diane. And without much damage to your home. Nel is also ok in Georgia. By the time it hit her area in Georgia, it lessened a bit, but gusts of wind and rain came all day. Love the Sassy Pants art and quote. : )

Diane, I am so thankful that you and your husband are safe and sound. Your home safe is the icing on the cake. I am so happy that you have power too. We lost power for 11 days due to Hurricane Sandy a few years ago. Not fun. xx

I think it could have been so much worse in Florida....especially since the forecast was so dire! I'm happy y'all weathered the storm, and I hope that your clean-up will be easy!

Wonderful news, Diane. I'm sure the cleanup will take awhile, but it's good to know the worst is behind you. I've been thinking about, and praying for, all my blogging friends caught in this hurricane.

So thankful that you survived the storm Diane! What relief, what joy, what thankfulness! So many have much devastation to deal with, but amazingly few lives were lost, and that is the most important thing. I prayed for you, and am thankful for the Lord's protection over you and your home! Stay safe throughout the cleanup efforts! Very cute little meme from Princess Sassy :) Blessings, prayers and hugs for you :)

So good to hear you are ok Diane. I was thinking of you, watching the coverage on CNN. A long way back for so many people to recover. Take care and stay safe.🌞

so glad y'all are okay! We made it through too but I'm telling you---that Irma was ONE MEAN ONE...very bad girl. We didn't even get the real hurricane here....we got the tropical storm warning and the feeder bands and lo and behold----suddenly today we started getting tornado warnings----THAT WAS SCARY. Our streets and sidewalks are flooded and hopefully start to go down tomorrow. Save me a big plate of that roast please, LOL

I am so glad to hear you are ok Diane. It was quite a fierce storm. By the time Irma got here last night, she was pretty much spent for which I am glad. Prayers for all in Florida as they begin the big clean up.

Hello Diane, It was a happy moment when I saw your blog come up on my feed this morning. I am so happy that you were protected from what could have happened. My friend in Winter Garden lost power for the night and day, then it came back on. I am glad that you didn't lose power for that long. Be safe!

Very glad to hear you had so little damage! I have friends in Ft. Myers and Jacksonville who are still without power and have quite a bit of damage from winds and flooding. St. Simons looks like it did not fare well either. We are supposed to go there in 3 weeks so we'll see.

Hello Diane, this is good news. There were so many people praying for the residents of your state . . . people from all over the world. I believe that when that many people come together with a single purpose to their prayers it makes the Lord very happy and that is the reason the hurricane did less damage than what was predicted. They is much power it prayer. My brother's home was also spared. Trees came down in his yard but done hit the house and although they are living in a mess and by the power of generators, they are safe. My prayers are still with you all. God bless the state of Florida and her people.
Connie :)

So thankful you're okay! So smart to cook extra ahead of time. That can be very comforting when the power's out. My BIL who is up here right now told his neighbors to go in his house down there and eat up all the food in the freezer that's melting!

hi Diane... I am so glad you are OK and hope things have improved even more for you by now. We felt so helpless up here all the way across the country. (watched the local Ft Myers news on their website all weekend -- a surreal experience being here and feeling like we were there). Apparently, Upriver Park dodged the bullet too. The word from the management is 'no significant damage' -- trees down, no electricity, wires down etc etc, but no houses down or flooded, no roofs blown off... so it is looking reasonably good. They haven't been able to do a house-to-house check yet because of those wires, but are supposed to let us know as soon as they can. No word on our boat. Everybody in our park evacuated, so that is the good news -- people are safe!!! We were very lucky that there was no storm surge.

so far so good. Be safe and be careful when you do get to go outside.

So glad for the update - we think of you several times a day. Our weather has turned Autumny cool - some sunshine - some clouds - we are so lucky. Now to get on with autumn decorating - won't be long until the holidays. Have a grand rest of the week, once those winds die down. Hugs.

Hello my dear friend,
I have been praying. I am so happy you are alright!!
We have a friend in Tampa too. He is alright as well.

Marv lost his winter cabin in Rockport, Texas. My Texas family lost an out building due to saturation on the roof. A lot of clean up, but all alive!!

Love to you,
Carla

Sweet Diane...what a blessing to hear that you are safe from that old Irma. We have family and friends throughout the state and it was so hard to keep up with which was the safest area since the predictions of her path changed moment by moment. I know how scary that must have been for you and it is such a relief to hear that you were able to come out of it safe an sound. Thanks for letting us know...HUGS! Prayers continue for all of those not so fortunate.

So Happy to hear! I thought about you during the storm, hoping all would be well. The storms have been nasty this year and it's only the beginning of the season, hoping the Atlantic settles down now. Enough damage already!
Take care, Linda
