Backyard Birding

It's still been too hot to get out on the hiking trails. And this week even though it was 'less hot' it was windy.

This Hawk was on the pine tree behind our house and we watched it swaying side to side in the wind. It was hanging on for dear life!

We think it's a Red Tailed Hawk...possibly a juvenile.

Hubby and I both took pics.

I can't zoom as much with my camera, so this one is mine! lol

I looked down on the concrete in our courtyard and saw this Mexican Petunia bloom that looked neat.

And one more to show you what it looks like on the plant. They have bloomed all summer long!

Do you have special plans for the weekend? I hope the weather's nice, for ALL of us! (I'm planning to go to a White Elephant sale today!)

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

I’ve only seen one hawk in our backyard. We were sitting in the gazebo when a hawk silently glided down between the gazebo and the planter and swooped up a small bird. We were stunned as we witnessed the food chain in action!
Still in the 90’s in Texas!

Beautiful! We have lots and lots of red tail hawks here because they stay all winter. We never tire of seeing them.

Diane, I would love to go Sale-ing with you. LOL. I love the photos. Hawks are a beautiful bird. My daughter Kathy has a good eye for spotting birds ...she know what they are also, She has always been a bird watcher. I hope when she finds a new place to live it will have trails to walk. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

We have three young hawks who come visit at Grimmwood. I love hearing their screeching as they circle the pond.

Those are some great photos! I think I'll be staying home as it looks like rain here and just reading and puttering around the house.

The Hawk is such a grand bird. And you and husband captured it well. The Mexican Petunia on the concrete almost looks like a painting, so pretty. It's supposed to be a bit warmer today, with Sunday cooling down.

Have a pleasant weekend, Diane.

QUILTING IS BLISSFUL, DI said...

Ohhh I would of loved to have went to a White Elephant sale--but--
instead I unbagged all the quilts that I had bagged up and stuffed into my closet before leaving to outrun Irma--said I was waiting until after hurricane season to get them back out--but--I missed them--so spent the day getting them out and about and my closets back in working order!!!
we have had alot of water issues this week to deal with--broken water mains all over--then days of low pressure so we are still under a "boil water" advisory--fun fun fun!!!
enjoy the moments,di

You have the best bird pictures. Love this hawk. The red tailed hawk is the most common one in our canyon. I just watched ravens gang up on one trying to chase is away. This is their domain.

I think you are right about that bird's identity. We have lots of those hawks around here.
That is a really pretty flower- at first it reminded me of a morning glory.
I had the grandgirls today and ran all weekend so far. Hoping tomorrow is a quieter day around here. xo Diana

We have a hawk in our neighborhood and this summer she had two or three babies (we are not sure of the count). I worry about them attacking our dog. Have you ever heard of the happening? I don't think that they could lift him, at lease not high enough to fly with him, but they sure could do a number on him if they wanted to.

It is amazing to me that the hawks are such big birds. When we see them in the trees along the highway, they do not look that big but they certainly are. I wonder what a white elephant sale is!

Hello ~
Great photos! What did you find at the sale?
I will be away from the computer a few days. Autumn is here in Wisconsin and that means it is time for a wee little adventure.

Love, Carla

If it’s a contest, your hubby’s camera definitely wins. What an amazing bird that hawk is. Have a happy holiday weekend!

Wow - wonderful photos. The redtail hawk is our most prevalent hawk and one of my favorites. They are beginning to return for the winter - we've missed them this summer. Your flower is so pretty - I like the way it is on the sidewalk too - you find the most interesting things to take photos of.

We had a nice weekend - I'm finally taking some time to catch up on blog reading - I get so far behind, so often. Hope you have a grand weed ahead my dear.
