"If You Give a Moose a Muffin"

If You Give a Moose a Muffin is a delightful children's book by Laura Numeroff. I fell in love with this little book the moment I saw it. And since it was only a nickle at the old thrift store and a bit 'beat up'....I didn't mind cutting it apart for my next altered book project!

I started working on it yesterday by printing out some recipe cards.

My favorites were the ones I found at Gooseberry Patch on their 'free goodies' page HERE. (I had trouble accessing them on their site and ended up getting them on Pinterest.)

I have all kinds of ideas for this sweet book and it sure makes me think of Autumn baking!

I promised Maggie my favorite Honey Wheat bread recipe. I made this 'upteen' times when my kids were growing up. I cut it off a bag of whole wheat flour. I remember cutting it off every bag I bought and giving the recipes to the ladies in my church. My kids grew up with whole wheat...whole wheat everything! One time they had a friend over that said we even had whole wheat water! hahaha! Memories!

My sweet hubby bought mums last week to put into the big pots by the front door. Hurricane Irma beat our pot plants to death so it was nice to get some pretty mums to replace them.

Have you done anything special for Fall yet?

It's October...time to decorate!

I’m joining Mosaic Monday HERE
and Cooking and Crafting with J & J HERE!

Great recipe thanks so much for sharing it with us all, will try it soon. I like your thrift store find, such a lovely book, can't wait to see how it turns out. Such a shame that Irma broke all your pots and plants, but my what beauties you've replaced them with, just lovely.
Happy Mosaic Monday.

That's such a sweet book. Fun for adults to read over and over to children. I make whole wheat bread, too, and my kids grew up with it. It makes a bread that fills the tummy for longer than white flour. Your new pots of mums are very pretty. Have a great week!

How clever you are! I'm going out to buy big pots of mums this week to replace the things that dried up and died while we were at the camper. I baby and water all spring and summer and then something always happens and they all die right before the cooler weather arrives!

What a wonderful bread recipe, Diane. I really like that book- read it to the kids when they were little. You don't mind using the books for projects when they are beat up and bad. Hope you have a good night. xo Diana

It is fascinating to see what you are doing with the old children's book. I was making paper flowers last year until I had a problem with my hand.... But what are "Mums"? I don't know them at all! Have a lovely week.

I look forward to seeing the conclusion of your project - I haven't read the book but the title alone makes me laugh! So far, our Fall activities have included the acquisition of new pumpkin carving patterns, an Oktoberfest, and buying mums for the front porch. Just getting started!!!

HI Sweetness! How ya doing? That's a great idea to shop up an old book but a cute one at that! The bread recipe sounds very good. Your mums are so petty and I'm glad you're okay from all of the hurricanes. Thanks for popping in to see me.
Be a sweetie,

Your altered books are so sweet and I'm excited to see what you do with this one. I love children's books, they have the most interesting art work. Wish that I would have read your post before going shopping, I would have bought some whole wheat flour. Nothing makes a home more cozy that the smell of bread baking in the oven :)
Have a lovely day.

Wow, look at those pretty mums! My youngest daughter loved that whole series of books when she was little! They are so much fun. I can remember back in the eighties I loved the Gooseberry Patch catalog, and I always cut out their cute handwritten recipes. One of my recipes was published in one of their recipe books.

I hope you're having a blessed week and feeling much better!

The mums are so pretty and welcoming. I've decorated my mantle with fall decor. I love this time of year.
The book you found is adorable. Our street name has "moose" in it and I hope to find a Christmas moose stuffed doll for decorating!

Is there anything quite as delicious and homey as a warm loaf of fresh baked bread? Added Honey, all the better. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

So happy you are feeling better and keeping busy. I too loved that little book and the kids liked it too. Interesting to see what you do with it. What a great recipe...I use a bread machine these days and I'm going to check out how to adapt it. I have never seen a locust...so interesting. Your mums are definitely cheering.

What a great link to the recipe cards! That's something I never seem to be able to find and plain old 3x5s are so boring!

Oh, those Mums are gorgeous, Diane. Love the purple color, and it matches your lavender house. That was great that your kids grew up with whole wheat bread. The honey wheat bread recipe sounds Yummy. There's nothing like warm bread coming out of the oven and a slab of butter. : )

Happy October!

I read this set of books a lot to my daycare kids. "If you give a Mouse a Cookie" "If you give a Pig a Pancake" "moose a muffin" ... on and on they go. Kids love 'em! Can't wait to see your creation. Whole wheat water ha ha ha ha ha!! ha ha!! These days nobody eats white bread anymore do they?? My mom always baked every single loaf of bread we ate. Lots of whole wheat in our kitchen too. yummy!
Your potted mums look beautiful! I put fake pumpkins on a side table for our Thanksgiving decor this weekend. I think I outdid myself (not!).
