Books “My 2017 Reading list”

I love to read. I remember reading aloud when I was in the second grade and I was terrified to read in front of my class but also elated. I don’t watch much TV, my husband and I read in the evenings after dinner. Goodreads is great for keeping up with the books I’ve read. I don’t write lengthy reviews but I like to write a little something about every book I read. My Goodreads tab is on my sidebar if you want to look over my reviews. Or you can click HERE.

I read 68 books in 2017 and when I went back over my list, I realized I gave only ONE book my highest rating!

16158542

The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.

It was phenomenal and I’ll be ready to read it again next year.

I think it was my best year ever for good books though. I discovered a new series that I dearly love. The Molly Murphy series by Rhys Bowen is SO good! And several of my favorite authors had new books come out this year. Louise Penny, David Rosenfelt, Alexander McCall Smith  and Charles Finch to name a few.

And since I just finished an amazing book this week, I have to mention

18051967

The Third Hill North of Town by Noah Bly.

I could NOT stop reading it! I stayed up late and picked the book up to continue reading while I ate breakfast. It would be better NOT to read the reviews on this one.

Just start reading….and enjoy the ride!

Do you have that ‘one favorite book’ this year?

Happy Reading!

I’m joining Thankful Thursdays.

Now you have me curious about The third Hill North of Town. I'm glad you enjoyed The Boys in the Boat. Didn't you read about that from our book club? I think I agree with you--one of the best read in a long time! Happy New Year!

Oh Diane, I would love to say I read 68 books in the past year. I allow far too many distractions. Everything you've shared here looks wonderful. Thankfully, I do have my book club which gives me the chance to recommend some of these. ;)

Happy New Year friend.

I don't know if I determined my favorite one this year. I was just thinking about it the other day. I keep a written list. I know I need to check out that Good Reads thing. I have one more to finish for this year. Thanks for the recommendations. I will check them out.

Diane, You have a healthy body from all your hiking and a healthy mind from the reading. :):) I am hoping once this spring when I get my cataracts taken care of, that I will read more. :) Blessings for a brand new year of good health and happiness. xoxo, Susie

Agreed on Boys in the Boat. I'm going to look over my list for last year, too. I know I read, but nothing comes to the top of my head. Just saw "Darkest Hour" and definitely recommend it to you. Take good care and thanks for your friendship and the light you put into the world this year.

You do read a lot of books...over one a week! For that reason I have added your favorites to my list of possibilities...so many good books!

We don't watch much television, either. I love Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness books, and have just read one of the Molly Murphy books. I get so much reading inspiration from blogs like yours.

Wow!
Well done on reading 68 books in 2017!

I haven't even read half that many, but the books I have read I've enjoyed.

All the best Jan

I did get back into reading this past year-but I did not keep a count--though I did mark off each book on the authors list of books each one wrote, so I may be able to count them--I love good mysteries these days--this one sounds like it might be a good one though as you liked it--sooo
enjoy the moments,di

That a lot of books. I've just read 48.
I have read Boys in the Boat and thought it was excellent. Read it for my book club and it was a book I would never have picked for myself but so glad I read it.

I need to start reading more. I will go look at your list of books to see what I would like. I read a lot of Rhys Bowen so have to look for her new one.

Thanks for some new books to check out! I love to read, also, and use goodreads to help me keep track, although I rarely write reviews. I much prefer reading to television, also. Happy new year!

I've read all the molly murphy series, plus the Rhys Bowen Her Royal Spyness series. Love them!

Have you read the Laura Childs teahouse series? Easy and fun mysteries.

Now I gotta check out your last recommendation. Hope our new library system carries it. LeeAnna

I'm glad you found a couple nice books to read over Christmas. I really want to get into reading again, and me and Nel went to Barnes and Noble on Christmas Eve just to browse. I usually end up in the children's section hehehe.

Wishing you a Happy New Year filled with peace and joy.

love, ~Sheri

ps.....it's so nice to know another Barbie lover. : )

Wow -- 58 is very impressive and I'm glad you found a favorite! Thanks for the recommendation!

I'll probably be posting my book wrap after the first of the year. I have a lot of Louise Penny on my list, too!

I'm a reader too, and loved The Boys in the Boat. Our book club read it. I'm so bad about updating my goodreads lists. That would be something to do for 2018, right? My mother keeps a notebook and has been handwriting a list with a review of hundreds and hundreds of books she's read since the 60s. Kind of fun to look back on.
Happy New Year Diane! xo Deborah

Goodness gracious, it's almost a new year again! Mercy!!--this year just flew by, didn't it? I am applauding you for reading that many books this year my friend....I have been a big reader all my life, I adore books, but I didn't read nearly that many this year. The ones I did read, I sure enjoyed though! I don't know about the goodreads thing, I will have to check that out! Are y'all getting a cold snap there as we are here? It's been pretty nippy here the past few days, hovering right around freezing at night, which is very unusual for us here. I have flowers and bushes in full bloom, so far they are doing ok. Do you have new year's plans?

Thanks for the recommendations Diane. I have heard several people comment about The Boys on the Boat but I was unfamililar with the other book. It sounds like one I want to read.

I'm always on the lookout for book recommendations, so thanks for these Diane. I've just finished The Inheritance by Charles Finch and thought it was fantastic, beautifully written. I've just began The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes by Leonard Goldberg and so far so good :-)

We love to read too and don't watch a lot of TV (when we do it is a NetFlix series). Boys in the Boat was really really special to me because it was a wonderful book as you know and also because we recognize so many of the places -- my Dad went to UW for a couple of years before transferring (and it might have been about that time, I wish he were still here so I could ask). And then we grew up in Eastern Washington near Spokane and around there, where he talks about working on the farms .... it was just like being home again reading that!) . anyway ... I will put your other rec. on my list.

I've always enjoyed your brief reading recommendations on your sidebar and don't think I've ever told you that. I should probably do GoodReads.
