Little Miss Muffet

It still amazes me that I can dig through a box of children’s books at the old thrift store and come up with a little book that someone bought for 29 cents back in 1956! I take it out and have to resist ‘hugging’ it!

DSCN4880

I love old books….especially children’s books.

04Apr

Don’t you love the sweet poems and beautiful illustrations?

DSCN4896

And so that you know I haven’t been ‘sitting on my tuffet’ this week…

05May

here are some of the cards I’ve made.

DSCN4907

And a few more in progress.

I’m waiting on a silk ribbon order from Victorian Gypsy Girl, her Etsy shop is HERE! This silk ribbon is amazing to work with. It’s fair trade Sari Silk from India and just the most beautiful silk in the world! I ordered ‘Mama’s Lipstick’, a bright pink to make more of these little ribbon flowers and ties for my oversized tags. You really should visit her Etsy shop HERE….you’ll be surprised at how affordable this ribbon is and there’s so many things you can do with it.

Have you done any fun crafting this week? Or read any good books? Or sat on a tuffet? Or been scared by a spider? heehee!

I’m joining Mosaic Monday HERE

and Cooking and Crafting with J & J.

you've quite a collection of books! It must be satisfying to find one and enjoy reading it. There is still a child in all of us and I know it must be a lot of fun! I know it would be for me! Have a wonderful week!

That is such a sweet book. I always think of you when I see children's books with a little 'age' on them like us! What pretty ribbon. I'm afraid I haven't been crafting or painting much. I'm hoping I get inspired soon and back to it!!

Your cards are so pretty. I remember those books. That life seems a lifetime a way. Kids now a days, even the little ones are playing on tablets. I have been working on a boho lap quilt and almost have it done.

Lovely, lovely crafted beauties!! You are so talented!! Those old books are pretty amazing!

You do such lovely work! I have my art out but have only worked on the painting I’m doing once. Still, leaving the art table ready and waiting makes getting back to work on it easier! Back to YOUR art......every time I receive a hand crafted card, I either frame it or display it in some way. They are truly time consuming works of art and deserve to be seen!
I’m about to start on the first of four denim quilts I need to make this year. Two crib size and two regular.
But first, I’m going to the country for a few days! Win! WIN!!

Love your cards (especially the birds). I giggled at your reaction to the books ... I have the same reaction! Imagine paying 29 cents for a book now! Ha! I love the illustrations. "They" did it right back in the "good-ole" days! Happy Monday!

Oh Diane, your post made me smile today, as I love children's books too. I still have a collection of them from when my children were little. Wow, can you believe this book cost 29 cents back in the day? The cards you are making are sweet, and that Purple one is pretty. I like the music notes and the "love."

I have always felt for Little Miss Muffet as I have only recently learned to tolerate spiders. I wuold love to find an old book of nursery rhymes like the one you found. As for your crafting, it is just lovely.

I used to collect those old books--
and I did get a scare on Friday--I walked our trail here--and I knew that it was probably snake mating season so I was on the look out for them on the path--then something caught my eye up higher and here is a snake climbing up a big palm branch--I stopped dead in my tracks trying to decide if I wanted to turn around (was afraid he might leap out at me as I walked by??) But I noticed he ducked his head way down--so I quickly skirted around him and keep going--need to look him up and see what kind he was--pretty sure he wasn't the regular black snakes we see on the path--think my heart is finally down to earth!!!!
enjoy, di

Your cards and tags are so pretty. The sari silk sounds (and looks) lovely. I've not been sitting on my tuffet too much, and I did mash a spider or two that came into the house. Not too much crafting going on, either. Love reading about yours.

Well Miss Muffet, you certainly have been busy. I love your cards. You have great talent! I think that it is great that you have such affection for old books. Enjoy your crafting this week.

I love those old books! But I don't collect them because I have no room to store them....I love your cards, so fun crafting with pretty papers, etc! The last thing I crafted was a wreath for my mom for her birthday! Trying to get back in the swing of things....we've been busy around the house. I haven't been scared by any spiders but I did almost step on a snake the other day...aaahhhh! Have a nice week Diane!

What a fantastic idea, Diane! I really do love finding those oldies as well! :)

You and I are the same way about the old books for sure! I get so excited to find "oldies but goodies". The thrift stores are full of them and I guess it's my weakness, I bring home a big bag of them all the time. I just cant leave perfectly "good books" behind! ha ha ha LOL And often you'll find the most wonderful and special little treasures, like this one you have here. I do love the cards you'be been making too---those are so pretty!

I love old story books and picture books and saved all of mine to pass on to my children. I recall as clear as if it were yesterday the day I was given the story of a little girl who lived in Williamsburg. It set me on a quest to visit historic Williamsburg as an adult!

Your love of books must have begun in childhood. Did you get blessed with a Little Golden Book on every grocery day as I so often did? You have been busy creating!

What a find that little nursery rhyme book was, much loved by someone all those years go and now loved by you!
Your cards & tags are beautiful, I think that ribbon is wonderful so versatile and so pretty!
Thanks for sharing this sweet rhyme with the MM crowd this week.

What a little treasure you uncovered, vintage nursery rhyme books were always so wonderfully illustrated back then.
You have been busy making cards and tags, so pretty. It was National Scrapbooking Day on Saturday so that's what I was doing, getting creative with paper & glue!

I love old books as well Diane. Thanks for sharing that ETSY shop. I often look for nice ribbon to finish my cross stitch pieces and it is hard to find really nice ribbon in my neck of the woods.

I love the older children's books specially from the 40s and 50s. I really like the illustrations.
I have done no crafting of late---not even a card. But I have been busy in my greenhouse and gardens.

You have great thrift stores! Ours are picked over by the antique-ers and flea market-ers. Great finds. the little books are treasures, indeed.

I am ashamed to admit which of the choices at the end applies to me! (We did have a nature drive and hike on Saturday, but so far this week .... uh, I refuse to answer on the grounds ....

Actually, it has been kind of nice to have a wind-down time with no planned activities since most of our fellow-snowbirds have flown. (And they are missing some gorgeous weather here.)

Your cards are so beautiful -- you are so talented.

I also love children's books! I have a large collection of Golden Books and I'll never part with them. Some were mine as a child, some were my children's and some I purchased for my grandchildren. They are all favorites!

Love your crafting! We have been busy doing yard work and buying annuals to plant in a week or so.

I just finished reading "Before We Were Yours" --a historical fiction novel. It was intense but I was fascinated by the story. I'm going to recommend it to my book club next rotation.

There you go, being funny again! I just get this big old grin on my face every time I read your posts (and I can't imagine you EVER sitting on your tuffet!)

I have fond memories of the Little Golden Books - they always had fabulous illustrations.

I am still working on my 'day of the week' tea towels, although I am a bit behind my 'schedule' ... oh, well.

I too love the old books - so sweet, simple and fun to read! Although if you look at the REAL meanings behind many of those nursery rhymes . . . lol, pretty dark! But the kids don't know that haha! Your cards are so pretty - love the birds! I'm getting ready to start a new job so I've been cleaning the house and making repairs/doing projects before I go back to work!
