Heritage Farm at General Coffee State Park

We loved the campground at General Coffee State Park and one of the best parts was driving over to Heritage Farm to park by the lake and explore the hiking trails. The park has over 1,500 acres so there is so much to explore.

I'm always more interested in heading down the forest trails or walking along the river.

But the trails at the lake start at the farmyard!

There are beautiful log cabins, barns and fenced off areas for the animals.

So I spent some time photographing some of the beauty here (before heading off to the river to hike less frequented trails).

Goats, Sheep, Chickens, Horses and more!

He looks like Billy Goat Gruff!

Lots of well maintained buildings on the farm.

Aren't the log structures beautiful!

A collage of this one.

One you can go inside or sit on the porch!

And the Purple Martins were in abundance, hopefully eating the gnats that were everywhere!

We really loved the horse and wish we had found out his name.

General Coffee State Park was donated to the state in 1970 and is named after General John Coffee, a planter, US Congressman and military leader. What a treasure it is. More info HERE

We would love to go again in the Fall when it is cooler and the Fall leaves are turning.

Have you been to any state parks in Georgia? We would love to visit more of them.

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

  and Mosaic Monday HERE.

What interesting buildings on that farm. Looks like a very nice place. Loved the gourds as a martin house.

Those gourds are so useful for birds. Re-cycling at its best!

Beautiful photography, as always!

I have been to all the state parks surrounding the Savannah area, Fort Pulaski was my playground as a child and my children too. this park is one I would love, old cabins are my favorite thing and I always wanted to live in one, but with power and AC etc its truly gorgeous.

It seems like the perfect blend of nature and history, starting a hike among rustic log cabins and barns before wandering into the forest and along the river must make General Coffee State Park feel like stepping into a peaceful, living postcard.

Hello Diane!

Beneath the pines where hoofbeats roam,
Heritage Farm feels just like home.
Log cabins stand with rustic grace,
As goats and sheep patrol the place.

The Martins dart through gnats with glee,
While trails invite both you and me.
The river calls, the forest hums—
Where quiet peace and beauty comes.

So here’s to cabins, hooves, and leaves—
To autumn dreams and golden eves!

John 😊

Being a city person it would be fun to see all the farm animals. Looks like a great place, Diane.

i don't think i have ever visited a state park in georgia. i really enjoy state parks but we are not good campers. i LOVE the thought of it but when i have camped, even in a motor home, i did not love it. the log cabins are beautiful, i wondered if they rent those to campers or they are just to visit while on the property. i enjoyed seeing all of the animals, the horse is beautiful. happy to see you today, enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

Dear Diane,
how lovely to see you back in the blog world and sharing the results of your 13 wonderful hikes! 🌿🐦
I've never been to Georgia, and I’ve never seen a Yellow-crowned Night Heron or a Yellow Flytrap pitcher plant in real life – all the more reason I’m grateful you're taking us along on your adventures!
As for the farm animals – horses, sheep, goats, chickens and ducks – of course I know them, but I love them so much that I would probably have spent quite some time at their enclosures. 🐐🐑🐓
Oh, and I figured out the horse's name: it’s obviously Brownie! Why? Well, it’s brown and sweet – pure logic, wouldn’t you say? 😄🐴
The natural beauty of General Coffee State Park is breathtaking – although I must admit I was a tiny bit disappointed that the park’s name has nothing to do with the caffeinated beverage I adore so much ☕😉
Warm wishes & hugs from Austria
