We see a lot of herons here in Florida (where I go) but not many Green Herons.
So it was a thrill to see so many at Reed Bingham State Park.
The first one I saw was in the lake near where we were camped.
I got to see him every day that we were there.
But what was a special treat was on the other side of the lake.
We drove over just about every evening after dinner to see what we could see.
And I watched 2 adult Green Herons one evening.
And lo and behold, two young ones came out to greet me the next night.
The sun was low so the light isn't great.
But what a surprise to get to stand on the boardwalk and watch these little ones.
The whole family was on the edge of the water.
This is where I saw the monster gator on another trip but he was in hiding. Which was fine by me!
A few more photos standing in that same spot and looking the other direction!
This park has the most variety of birds I've ever seen.
And it can be very different from one side of the lake to the other.
What types of herons do you normally see?

...I've only seen a green heron once and that was years ago. Diane, stay cool and well.
Fabulous photo of that green heron. I love it when you can see the color of the eyes!
I can't tell you why types of herons I usually see here in my neighborhood since I'm not as sharp to identify them as you.
Those babies you saw one evening are so cute and fuzzy!!
Honestly, I don't know one kind of heron from another, but I think the ones I see most around here are blue herons. Lots of swans, geese, ducks, egrets, wood storks, and pelicans. We have a bird sanctuary lake (Lake Morton) in our historic district, safe from alligators. I love it. Thanks for sharing your great photos and travels with us!!
What a treat to see the baby green herons.
What a gorgeous witness of the herons in variety
What beautiful photos of the green heron!
We often see the common grey heron here, but now we also see the little egret more often.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Greetings Irma
I've only seen a heron once and it was a great blue heron. What a treat to see these.
Wonderful Green Heron sightings! Here in Bangalore, our everyday wonder is the Indian Pond Heron.
Wow! Baby herons ~ great photos ~ always enjoy your blog ~ hugs,

We've mostly blue herons here. There are green ones, as well, though. Our nearest rookery went down in a storm. It was so sad!
Living in the city I see but ravens, pigeons, sparrows, so it´s always a treat to pop in here!
How wonderful to see those wee ones! Every once in a while we have some Herons at our lake, but not often.
We have lots and lots of great blue herons. I've only got a glimpse of green heron.
The Green Heron looks very nice! I'm happy that you didn't see the the monster gator!
Hello Diane,
A great collection of Green Herons, I have never seen their chicks.
Very cute and fuzzy. I saw a Green Heron today at the local pond as I was driving by, sometimes we see the GB Heron. Thank you for linking up your your critter post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for taking time to leave me a comment.
I love that you saw the baby Herons, Diane. Sweet pics of them.
What a memorable experience to spend time with a family of Green Herons.

Wonderful captures!
A nice close-up of the Green Heron. I like the little spike of feathers on his head. The baby ones are cute. And I love those white birds in the distance. Have a lovely Sunday and good week ahead.

How fun they are all my favorites and even better is if you have one decide to follow you while fishing because you may pull up lunch!
Standing on that boardwalk and watching the family must have been a special experience.
It's also interesting that the park offers such a variety of birds and different environments from one side of the lake to the other. You definitely captured some great moments, even with the low light.
Green Herons are rare our areas and never seen the young ones in nature....
Have a great day
Cuanto me alegra que hayas disfrutado con tus paseos. Precioso todo. Besos.
Rarely greens, but I see a lot of great blues. I'm with you on the monster gator- he needs to stay on the other side of the lake..far far away!
I didn't know there are so many different kinds of herons. Beautiful colors and markings. Your photos are amazing!
