Quilts and Dolls

I love to ‘hunt’ for quilts and dolls!

IMG_1703

And even though you probably think I go to the thrift store every day, I only go about once every 2 weeks or so. But I’ve been so lucky to find some neat things. We have the BEST thrift stores here in Florida.

IMG_1719

I found this beautiful handmade lap quilt the last time I went.

IMG_1722

I couldn’t wait to wash it and really look at it up close.

IMG_1721

And look what I saw!

A heart stitched right in the center.

Won’t this feel nice to wrap up in next winter!

I also found these very old paper dolls.

IMG_5430

They have patterns to make doll clothes for them. I’ve never heard of that, have you?

IMG_5433

They were tucked in their original packaging, which was kind of like wax paper.

I’m joining the Vintage Inspiration Link party HERE,

and Roses of Inspiration

and Ivy and Elephants.

Have you found anything special this week?

What a wonderful find! My Granddaughter and I love paper dolls! I use to buy them in a shop in a doll shop in My. Dora, but they stopped carrying them.

What great finds! The thrifts here are rather lackluster but interesting nonetheless.

You do have great thrift stores where you live! Unfortunately I'm not so lucky where I live regarding thrift stores. The quilt is adorable and the stitched heart is an added bonus. Love that the dolls come with clothing patterns. Enjoy your new finds!

These are wonderful finds. I did have a very special week of thrifting. I found a bed size hand-quilted quilt and just the perfect colors to go in my bedroom, for $20 dollars. Then I found 3 hand embroidered pillow cases with crocheted edging and two table scarves that were so badly stained that the lady gave them to me for FREE:) After some soaking a scrubbing the stains are gone:) This was not a normal thrifting weekend, but a glorious one:) Your quilt is adorable and those paper dolls are a treasure for sure.
Great shopping, girlfriend!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

Hi Diane! You do find great things at your thrift shops! The lap quilt is so pretty and the colors so soft. Love those little paper dolls. They must really be old. This was one of my favorite toys when I was little - paper dolls!

Hi Diane, I am envious in a good way!!! I love thrift stores and we go often! That is the sweetest lap quilt. Such pretty pastel colors. Love those paper dolls. How unique and amazing that the patterns were still in the pkg.

John found a Louisville Slugger baseball bat last week for $1.15 - a $40 value. He was thrilled.

A fun post today. Enjoy your afternoon.

What neat finds! I love the quilt, it looks like it is in very good condition. The dolls are very interesting, I've never seen this type before now. Lucky you! I haven't been to a thrift store in too long. Hope to go tomorrow!

Diane, I think you have found a true treasure...I have never seen or heard of paper dolls with clothing patterns. When we were young we would cut pictures of the clothes from a catalog for one of the catalog women in a bathing suit. LOL. Try to make it work. Love the sweet quilt with the heart, so special. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

Some of my happiest childhood memories are of playing with paperdolls! And do you remember the "Betsy McCall" paperdolls in each monthly issue of McCalls ladies magazine? I eagerly awaited each issue!

I'm just smitten with those paper dollies. How perfectly sweet to have dress patterns for them too! What fun you will have playing.

Don't you just wonder who created that quilt and why the heart? Sweet as can be. The paper dolls are interesting - and the idea of providing patterns to create a wardrobe is a brilliant idea. I would have loved that. I rarely go to thrift stores. I rarely shop unless it's groceries and such.

Hello Diane,

Vintage paper dolls are precious. It is great that you were able to find the whole set (dolls and accessories). Aren't you the queen of the thrift shop?
Paper dolls! They bring back some lovely memories. I used to make lots of them when I was a little girl, even during classes. Maybe I should make some again, one of these days.
Anyway, have lots of fun as always dear Diane.
Love,

Arlette
