A ‘Sculpture’ along the road for Good Fences!

You just never know what you’ll see when you travel.

skullcloseIMG_0599

And sometimes you can’t tell WHAT in the WORLD you ARE seeing from a distance.

IMG_0598

I thought it looked like a dog from a distance and when we got a little closer my hubby thought it looked like a bird.

IMG_0599

No…it’s just a skull of some sort on top of a post on top of a mailbox.

skullIMG_0600

But it had a fence in the background so I’m sharing the pics today

Meet ‘Wee Widdle Wiffle’!

She’s my newest addition to the lanai. I found her on Etsy in this sweet shop HERE! And she came to me all the way from…a few miles away! The lady that made her lives here in Florida too! So that was FUN! She’s new on Etsy so be sure and make her feel welcome by saving her shop in your favs!

DSCN2047

Wee Wiffle is definitely dressed for the HOT weather here but she didn’t want to stand up all the time so I put her in a crochet basket of seashells.

DSCN2048

She likes that even better…reminds her of the beach!

DSCN2042

And my son and his family went on an adventure to Iceland and saw all kinds of amazing sights, including puffins (real puffins)! This one flew all the way from Iceland to Florida! How amazing is that?

Reaping the Rewards!

Traveling the backroads has it’s rewards.

churchIMG_0736

Imagine our surprise when we passed this beautiful church one day.

churchIMG_0748

And yes…we passed it! We were on our way somewhere else and decided to come back when we had time to take a few photos.

churchIMG_0753

The sky was a pale blue with puffy white clouds and the church couldn’t have been more beautiful.

windowsIMG_0750

It is the St. John’s Methodist Church established in 1852.

And if that wasn’t enough!

Look at the tiny replica out in this grassy area.

AMAZING!

Birds…LOTS of birds in Goethe State Forest!

Driving down the dirt road in Goethe State Forest gave us an opportunity to see all kinds of critters.

turkeyroadIMG_0620

(there’s a turkey in the pic if you look close)

It was WAY off the beaten path!

And when a turkey made a turn off ‘his path’ right in front of our car, he decided to FLY!

turkeycropIMG_0620

He looked so funny walking or waddling as fast as he could before he took flight. (I was lucky to get one photo in flight)

treeIMG_0608

Then when we came around another bend we spotted trees FILLED with birds. We had no idea what they were until we could come home and get the bird books out to ID them.

treetopIMG_0611

We’ve decided they are Tree Swallows and there were 100s or 1,000s of them in the trees and in the sky!

treeswIMG_0614

I stood under the tree and looked straight up to get some of the photos! What a sight!

treeswallowIMG_0666

So that was part of our adventure last weekend!

Florida is the home to so many different birds!

Big Cypress Trail in the Goethe State Forest

We took a hike…the shortest hike of the year!

(and no, I won’t count it!)

IMG_0662

It was short drive down a dirt road and a short hike to the end of a boardwalk.

IMG_0673

And the bugs were biting! We hiked in ‘double time’, took a few photos and raced back to the car.

IMG_0630

We had a natural repellant on but these were ‘swamp insects’ and they were out for blood!

IMG_0637

So what did we see?

IMG_0642

The Goethe Giant!

IMG_0643

Florida’s seventh largest Cypress tree, an estimated 907 years old, measuring 28.5 feet in circumference and 87.5 feet tall.

IMG_0645

AMAZING!!!

IMG_0646

And well worth the quick hike!

A ‘Beary’ Good Week for Wednesday Wee Ones!

It’s been SO nice to have my sewing room in good order again! And when I was organizing, I came across a ‘few’ unfinished projects. I’ve been inspired by my blog friend Sandra from farm girl sam lately! She’s been busy finishing up all kinds of projects. (and reading good books too!)

DSCN2030

This bear was stuck in a drawer…armless and legless. He’s still faceless but at least now he can sit on a shelf.

DSCN2032

Or hang out with other bears in the sewing room.

DSCN2033

I’ve made quite a few over the years.

DSCN2035

I even made up my own pattern for this one. Really! I made it up!

DSCN2036

I wonder if eyes and a nose….a ribbon or bow…or something to wear would help?

DSCN2038

That will have to wait for another day! haha! After all, I DO still see a Raggedy Andy with a missing arm on the work bench.

I hope you’ll visit JoAnn today! She’s showing off her cute dolls HERE!

Pizza for Papa!

We had a really fun Father’s Day. We packed a picnic lunch, some snacks and lots of water and drove to parts unknown. Well…unknown to us!

IMG_0708

And at the end of the day, we stopped in Dunnellon at The Pizza Joint for a ‘pizza to go’! (I found their Facebook page HERE)

IMG_0711

We had read about this place on the internet and couldn’t wait to try it.

IMG_0721

Wood fired pizza! OH MY!

IMG_0715

They are incredible and will make it hard to eat an ordinary pizza again!

IMG_0716

Luckily, they are not too far from where we live and a beautiful drive to get there.

IMG_0720

So I’m sure we’ll be back! (ours is going in..half veggie and half meat lovers for Papa)

IMG_0722

peppers growing in a pot by the door

It’s a good thing we took a photo of it in the back of the car because when we got home, all ‘picture taking’ was forgotten! There’s nothing like driving home with the wonderful smell of a pizza in the car to make your mouth water!

IMG_0757

So it was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

Have you ever eaten a wood fired pizza?

A Pileated Woodpecker on the Golf Course

I stood in my courtyard and watched this big beautiful Pileated Woodpecker the other day.

woodyIMG_0324

He seems to have found something good to eat at the base of the tree.

wIMG_0356

You just never know what might be under a leaf or two! Peck Peck!!!

wIMG_0339

But then there might be something better up in the tree.

wIMG_0359

Is it worth it to make the climb?

wIMG_0369

Looks like a lot of effort!

wIMG_0373

Maybe it would be more fun to play a round of golf!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

wIMG_0361

Have fun and enjoy your weekend!

(Have you noticed how many ‘talking birds’ there are here in Florida?)
