Gingerbread Cookies for ‘Wednesday Wee Ones’

Opal was invited to a Christmas party so she needed a new dress for the special occasion.

opalsnowfrDSCN0485

She was all dressed up…

DSCN0484

and her dress was fancy even from the back!

DSCN0487

But when she arrived, the other ‘girls’ handed her an apron and put her to work.

DSCN0522

It was time to bake gingerbread men.

DSCN0514

All of the pixies came out to help

DSCN0518

so it turned out to be lots of FUN!

DSCN0519

The holidays give us all a chance to enjoy the pretties we’ve collected over the years.

DSCN0520

I made these gingerbread men years ago!

DSCN0527

And the pixies are mostly vintage kneehuggers.

JoAnn and I both used the same Christmas fabric to create doll clothes for our sewing challenge.

And thanks for joining us again this week

A little “Apron” Postscript

How many of you have seen the movie “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants?

DSCN5330

I rented it from the library and it is really good!

I could appreciate it even more since I’ve taken part in ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Apron’.

PMCropDSCN4850

A quote from IMDB, “The movie is based on the young adult book, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Anne Brashares. As four best friends spend their first summer apart from one another, they share a magical pair of jeans. Despite being of various shapes and sizes, each one of them fits perfectly into the pants. To keep in touch they pass these pants to each other as well as the adventures they are going through while apart.”

This is a bit of a postscript as to a ‘magical’ experience I had while I had the ‘traveling apron’. I enjoyed bringing it along with me while we visited family but I also had something happen that was totally unexpected.

I found something.

I found something that I have been looking for…

for YEARS!

I found my book!

When I was growing up my sister and I each had a big Storybook.

And I kept them.

A few months ago, I asked my sister if she would like to have hers and I sent it on it’s way. Which left me with my book…my pitiful beat up book that I had given my 4 boys to read and enjoy. By the time I realized it was a keepsake…it had no covers, was missing pages at the beginning AND the end and was colored in with crayons! lol So when I started spending time on the computer I realized I could search for my book and find out what the cover was supposed to look like and maybe even find a ‘new’ book.

DSCN5326

Last week I was in one of my favorite shops here in NC, New Visions and I reached down on the bottom shelf to look at a Hans Christian Andersen book…

DSCN5324

and there was MY BOOK underneath.

DSCN5325

“365 Bedtime Stories”

DSCN5566

I couldn’t believe my eyes! I paid for it but didn’t even get a bag for it. I carried it out as if it was a fragile treasure.

DSCN5569

I’m linking with Nifty Thrifty Tuesday

and Knick of Time Tuesday !

I hope the apron brings everyone that receives it joy…and maybe even a bit of magic!

What do you think?

A little bit of magic?

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Susan Apron…the Announcement!

I’ve so enjoyed having this wonderful apron traveling with me on this trip. You can see my other posts HERE and HERE !

PMDSCN5319

My hubby snapped this photo of me with a pot of coffee on our balcony here in the mountains on this crisp cool Autumn day.

He took one more photo to give you a better view of the mountains without the camera focusing on me.

DSCN5320

It’s been just an honor to take part in this fabulous adventure and it’s time to pass it on to another blogging buddy.

The apron enjoyed sunny Florida so much that it whispered to me to send it back!

Marcia at The Shop Around the Corner will be receiving it next!

She lives in beautiful South Florida and this apron needs some of that FL sunshine!

A special thanks to all of the ladies that are a part of this sisterhood who opened your arms in friendship! And thanks to all of my blog buddies for joining in the fun!

So would you like a cup of coffee or a spot of tea?

“The Traveling Susan Apron”

It’s such an honor to be part of this sisterhood. Please see my post HERE for more of the details.

And what a privilege to have this special apron to enjoy!

The apron has done some extra ‘traveling’…

DSCN4962

and look where it showed up!

Well, the apron AND the Snickerdoodle cookies!

PMDSCN4961

It was such fun to share the cookies with more of my family in Myrtle beach!

And yes, my hubby and sweet daughter in law both got bags of cookies, too they just didn’t get into the photos!

I have one more photo to take of my apron.

Anyone want to guess where it is now?

It’s definitely baking weather here!

Have you baked anything special this week?

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Susan Apron

Do you know what it is?

Have you seen the Traveling Susan Apron?

IMG_3755

(borrowed from Susan’s blog)

It started back in March 2012.  A wonderful lady named Susan who blogs at My Mother's Apron Strings creates an apron each month and gives it away!  The winner of the March apron was Meggie. She decided to keep the apron for a couple of weeks, write some of her experiences in a journal and then send the apron and journal on to a blogging friend. So far is has been to these sweet ladies in places around the world…

Meggie at Meggie On The Prarie in Texas

Elaine at Pear Tree Log in England

Scarlet at Tales From Beyond The Nook in England

Jane at The Maple Syrup Mob in Ontario, Canada

Deb at Just Cats in Ontario, Canada

Susan at Just Sayin' in Ontario, Canada

and Linda at A La Carte in Georgia.

I feel so honored to be chosen to join this Sisterhood and use this special apron. I plan to take good care of it…and pack it in my suitcase to go along with me on my journeys!

Yes…the Traveling Apron is getting ready to travel by car!

So I got busy baking magic cookies for the trip!

DSCN4824

These are made using my mother in law’s recipe and they are the BEST!

DSCN4842

Oh…the ones on this plate are all round?

DSCN4850

Wasn’t there another plate with odd shapes?

DSCN4851

HERE they are!

DSCN4853

Thanks Linda for this wonderful honor and for all of the sweet gifts you sent along!

DSCN4846

The apron is happy here in Florida with the palm trees!

PMCropDSCN4850

I’ll check in again soon with updates!

Happy Weekend!

Does anybody really wear those?

That's what the lady asked me when I was paying for this pretty little apron at my favorite Thrift Store.

DSCN6360

I told the lady that I wear one every day of my life! I had one on preparing lunch before I came!

DSCN6374

She said she could remember seeing her grandmother wear one....this from a lady old enough to be MY mother!

This is another pretty apron I love to hang on my pantry door....

DSCN6367

I love the detail! It even has eyelet fabric as the lining!

DSCN6369

I have some pretty aprons but what do I normally wear?

DSCN3218_thumb[7]

Or this one that I made using a pattern and fabric my sweet cousin, Cindy gave me....

DApron6888

And now a question for all of my best girlfriends in blogland!

What do you do when you feel blue?

I don't mean way down deep depression...which I know is real and deserves attention.

What do you do when you feel melancholy or low?

I clean.

Is that normal?

I put everything in order..and clean as I go. My study/sewing room is all cleaned up. Every scrap of paper is filed, patterns folded and put away, fabric on the shelves, thread and scissors in the sewing basket....trash emptied!

Now what do I do? I guess it will be easier to start a new project now! lol

Here's a little bag I made to put inside my beach bag for small items.

DSCN5917

I still have other ideas for this fabric....but that will have to wait! I'll live in my 'clean zone' for a little while longer and try not to feel blue!

DSCN5914

So what do you do when you feel blue...and how do you snap out of it?

Hope you'll comment and share your thoughts! (I think this is my record number of questions in one post! lol)

My BEST day!

My favorite day always includes seeing the ocean...and the Gulf coast was beautiful yesterday! We drove out to Peck’s to eat Almond encrusted Grouper and bird watch!
DSCN3191
It was a thrill to see this eagle!
DSCN3182(and Brenda, I did not color pop or change the color of this photo...isn’t it a beautiful blue!)
To make the day even better, my hubby stopped at 2 thrift stores and I found a few treasures. I am trying to be very selective but I was thrilled to find this plate
DSCN3213
and a few vintage things.
DSCN3208
He found a cute spot among the presents from my sweet cousin!
DSCN3207
And I always love to find pretty handmade items like this doily.
DSCN3217
This little figurine is Made in Japan and even has 1959 imprinted on the bottom.
DSCN3214
It’s my FAVORITE find! So sweet and perfect!
DSCN3216
I know these aren’t really old because they have a bar code but they are made in the USA and I love them!
DSCN3211
Well....I am baking today so here’s my messy kitchen with me in it! (My hubby is the ONLY person in the WORLD that thinks I look cute with my hair sticking out every which way,  no make up and a poodle apron so I cropped my head off so that you could at least see the poodle apron!) lol
DSCN3218
And a plate of snickerdoodles for my hubby
DSCN3222 and cranberry orange scones for me!
DSCN3223 What are you doing today? Hope you’re having FUN!
