Keeping me Company in the Lanai

I’m still having to take it easy and rest.

If you missed it, my ‘pitiful pearl’ post was HERE.

I think I’m going through the ‘feeling sorry for myself’ phase of healing.

But look who’s in the lanai with me.

Meet Trixie!

IMG_4759

I got this sweet doll from my friend, Maxie a couple of weeks ago. Her Etsy shop Prims and Annies is HERE.

And isn’t she smart?

She can already read.

(she prefers vintage Winnie the Pooh books)

And we both have played Gummy drop a ‘few times’ this week.

How can you feel bad when you look at this big smile.

I’ll have to wait to smile that big though.

My face needs to heal some more.

Part of my ‘Living in Luxury’ Series

Oh, you didn’t know I HAD a ‘Living in Luxury’ series? Well, I didn’t either but I do like the sound of it, don’t you? And I think we can have luxury in our homes without spending a lot.

IMG_3858

This quilted pillow sham was on the back of the washer when I took pics of my thrift finds HERE. I soaked it and then washed it in my regular detergent. I put a half cup of vinegar in the rinse, too. It came out so clean and fresh.

I have a ‘few’ extra pillows. I think it’s so nice to have them to prop up on or take an afternoon nap without messing up the bed. I’m not a nap taker but ‘never say never’. I always feel like I’ll miss out on something if I sleep during the day.

IMG_3857

I don’t keep these on my bed. I keep them on the chair or put them next to the sofa in the lanai to be handy.

IMG_3856

(And if you think my bed is unmade….you would be right! I took these photos before I made it.)

I got all three of the shams at the thrift store for a dollar apiece and I love them all.

IMG_3859

And having extra pillows, brand new, covered with freshly laundered pillow shams gives me a feeling of luxury.

Another photo, with my bed made! lol

Literary Friday “Where do you turn?”

I’m not sure Ricki Jill will have a linky party up today. She’s had a traumatic time with the bad weather where she lives. Her blog is HERE if you would like to visit her.

I know I have a long prayer list right now of blog buddies that are facing challenges in their lives. And we have quite a few in our family, too. So where do you turn when you need answers to your prayers?

IMG_1042

I like to take my journal and write out scriptures that encourage me.

Awhile back Karen from Grab a Book Our Stack sent me this book. Thank you Karen!!!

“When God Doesn’t Make Sense” by Dr. James Dobson.

IMG_0956

I have several of his books and admire him greatly. I think I’ll do another post about the books that he’s written that have meant the most to me over the years.

I have to admit, I did not read every word of it. I skimmed through and read the parts that I was interested in and then wrote down scriptures from the text.

IMG_1043

Let’s keep each other in our prayers as friends.

I know several of you post prayer requests and I love to pray for others. So if any of you would like for me to add you to my prayer list, please just mention it in the comments or write to me in an email.

Has your weather improved? We only had a cold rain but our temps are headed UP! I hope you see the sunshine this weekend, too!

A Book and a Blanket ‘HGTV Updated’

Time to get the blankets out for the winter time weather! Even here in Florida! It’s what we consider COLD here today! Only in the high 50s with a HIGH wind!

IMG_8801crop

My girlfriend, Marfi came up with this idea to do posts every week in November with a book and a blanket. Her blog is HERE and she’s even having a giveaway this week.

I bought this Bob Timberlake ‘Cardinal’ throw at a consignment shop a couple of years ago and it’s perfect to snuggle up with.

IMG_8798

I got the book at a thrift store awhile back and I’m going to start reading it this week. I love this author so I know I’ll enjoy it.

IMG_8800

And recently I found another Matt and Shari book. I was thrilled! Their show Room by Room was my very favorite program when I first started watching HGTV. I wish they had more decorating and craft shows now, don’t you?

IMG_8801

This looks like a cute project. So many of their ideas are still popular and in style.

Do you have a favorite throw

or lap quilt for the winter time season?

UPDATE:

I don’t know if anyone will come back to look at this update but I really wanted to add some of the names of the HGTV shows that were mentioned in the comments. It seems like we ALL miss the decorating and craft shows that made HGTV so popular in the beginning. It would be great if they brought these back…shows like Room by Room, Carol Duval, Kitty Bartholomew, Decorating Cents with Joan Steffend, Peter Walsh, and ' Aleene's creative living'.

Dorothy’s comment I so agree with, “I miss Carole Duval and her Christmas Specials!”

And one more that I just thought of, Christopher Lowell. I learned a lot from his show!

And I liked Lynette Jennings, too, Becky! She was such a beautiful lady with style.

Any others that you can think of?

Wouldn’t it be great if HGTV heard us?

Boring to Better change!

This is probably not a WOW to anyone but ME!

But it’s definitely a ‘boring to better’!

We are spending the summer here in our condo in the beautiful mountains of Western N C !

The weather is not nearly as hot as most of the nation right now…

and there’s lots to do! (photo taken at the NC Arboretum)

I still want to blog though and keep up with the FUN!

" Comfort "

What do you think of when you hear the word 'comfort'?

DSCN9970

Do you have things in your home that are there just for your comfort?

DSCN9928

As I get older....I cherish my creature comforts more and more! When I had kids....4 boys growing up only 7 years apart from the oldest to the youngest...I didn't worry that much about comfort! I considered getting into bed at night to sleep comfort! lol

I'm very thankful for all of my blessings...and I'm enjoying reading the 'gratitude' posts so many are sharing during this month. I have kept a journal most of my life and my sweet cousin and I emailed our gratitude lists every day for awhile. That was inspiring! Writing in my journal every day brings me comfort.

So did you see I put a quilt on the cedar chest at the end of my bed?

DSCN9929

I'm not sure where I got it....I've had it SO long. For some reason this year, I need a quilt for comfort!

DSCN9969

What brings you comfort?
