Do you do the 'take away'?

I walk around my house and think there is just one too many things here and there

and I do the 'take away'!

I put everything that just didn't seem to fit on this table
DSCN5699
and now I need to find a new spot for them. These are things I just can't let go of....a lamp that was my grandmother's, candles that smell nice, etc. I may need to make some space to 'house' things until I figure out where they go!

What do you think I should put on that end of the piano?

Another lamp that matches the decor?

The art above the piano is Magical Mystic Tour by M. A. Vessey. I love her art!
And I love Mondays so I started my day by sitting in the sun this morning. It is SO hot here already and I really need to work on my tan. Right now I look a speckled pink...I'm sure it will turn into a golden tan soon! heehee!
I am adding this to my post! I just found this at my friend, Carolyn's blog,  Draffin Bears and it is SO much fun! And we could use some fun on this Monday!

OUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH

Don't tell me your age
YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH
This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute ...
Work this out as you read ...
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)
3. Add 5
4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1760 ..
If you haven't, add 1759..
6... Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number
The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).
The next two numbers are
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2010) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.
Chocolate Calculator.

Happy Monday to all of you! Enjoy your day! sun Stay cool! sun

I am a take away girl. In fact, I study blogs and think I need more stuff because I admire that cozy look...in other people's houses. In mine I don't want too much. It makes me nervous. We have a cabinet that I rotate things in and out of.

love the age thing, it is one of those things that drive me crazy trying to figure out how it works.
It is hard to give up things, too many memories attatched to all of it.
Lately I have been watching programs about hoarders, and that scares me into decluttering.

Happy Monday

Diane,
Often we have very similar interests and I read your blog and smile...but today I read your blog and saw your painting of the Mystic River and my jaw dropped. I have spent nearly every summer of my adult life in Mystic Connecticut. Have you been there?
Thanks for putting a smile on my face!

The other end of the piano needs something with height.. a tall candle, lamp, candle stick... that would complete the look.

I too move things around my house when I get bored with a look.

I do the take away all the time. In fact I did it today while I was cleaning all my shelves. Then I walk around and wonder where to move things to and some of them end up in storage until a later time to come back out or get sold. I would put 3 items on the other side of your piano since you already have one item on the other side. It will look better that way. Maybe 3 different height candle sticks, or finials, vases. They just need to be staggering heights. Two in back and one in front would look nice.

I take away and then rearrange. I think that is all part of tweaking our decorating.
I think a group of 3 candlesticks would look great on the other end of your piano. Or maybe a lamp with some books stacked under it.
Have fun trying different things.

Hi Diane,

Your room looks great and I am always wanting to change things around too.
The chocolate quiz is fun and glad you shared it too.

Happy week

Hi Diane
I've lived in my house for 33 years so I've needed to "take away" objects that have accumulated quite a bit. I've decided to keep a bin in my garage and to add the things I no longer want so that I can sell them at a yard sale this summer.

I think a vase with fresh flowers would look pretty on your piano!

I don't do the take-away, I do the add-on. My poor tolerant darling hubby lives with a clutterbug.
Your home is lovely.♥

How well I know this game. In fact I was playing it yesterday and the day before too :-). The best thing I did was devote one attic to items that are taken away ~ well that is until it's time to add them back in. In the meantime it works well as they are out of sight.

I play the "take items away" game but only because I have a kitty who wants me to live in a minimalist household. To help me out, my sweet boy has been knocking every item from tables and shelves. The result? Some items no longer exist and others are on their way to a flea market.

I think my sweet Hunter--when he is sitting up straight--would look great on the end of your piano. And with his help, you would find out which items to keep, and which, to discard permanently.
